Outstanding care and service! Dr Matt and his staff really pay attention to making kids feel comfortable.

We have been going to Dr. Karsten for over 16 years. My oldest son has autism and we couldn't find a Pediatric dentist in the area he would allow look in his mouth. We had tried all the ones that were recommended by other families with special needs children. None of them clicked for my son. Until we found Dr. Karsten. De. Karsten has been treating my children since my 19 year old was a toddler. He was the first dentist to be able to actually get my son (on the autistic spectrum) to sit through an entire cleaning and even X-rays. Dr. Karsten was the fourth pediatric dentist we saw and I am so thankful that a friend recommended him to our family. Fast forward a bunch of years to my second and third child, they have never felt any anxiety about going to the dentist and are always happy to go. My third child has Down syndrome and as her teacher describes her, fiercely independent, she is always happy to visit the dentist and has shown no fear at all in any of the procedures that she has undergone, including having two baby teeth pulled while using only a bit of nitrous gas. (It was truly amazing how well she tolerated the whole experience!) Dr. Karsten and his team have always been amazing. We have seen the other dentists in this practice and they are all exceptional and amazing with my kids. You will not go wrong with having Kids First Pediatrics as your child(ren)'s dentist. I am truly happy with the care they have shown all of my children and always refer any of my friends to them as well. read more

I made multiple appointments for my son and they kept changing them to the Elgin location without my permission. I purposely chose a Schaumburg dentist because we lived in the Schaumburg area, not in the Elgin area. Yet they didn't care about keeping their Schaumburg location open for their patients. And, they refused to file an insurance claim for the one and only visit they did have with my son! read more

We went into the dentist knowing our kids had a lot of fixing to be done and concerned with how our 6 year old would handle the procedures. Dr Matt immediately made us all feel very comfortable. After diagnosing and looking at our son's mouth issues he came up with a plan to help us and talked us through pricing and procedures and explained everything so clearly we couldn't be happier. From beginning to end the entire staff including the dental assistant made my child feel welcomed and understood and helped relax her fears. She definitely had more patience than I would expect. Now my daughter laughs at the whole teeth cleaning experience but she did have a moment in the chair. The dentist explained the treatment plan thoroughly and answered all my questions. I chose this dental practice due to the reviews. I'm being kind with a 2 star review. My son had an appt. and we all had to wait in the hall. The staff that took our information was confused. They take your kid back and you have to wait for them in the hallway. No one checks in with you to give you updates. I sat there for an hour. My son came out and told me he never wants to return there again. He was scared & begged for me and they told him to relax and it would be over soon. No one gave me an update on my kid whatsoever. When it came time to pay make sure your bank account is ready. Even with insurance they make you pay "the estimated amount"?!? The front desk told me it could be less could be more she didn't know and If it was I'd get a bill or a check!!?!? I was not impressed. read more

My son has autism, and hated the dentist. We could never get any work done with him. We even went to see a pediatric dentist in Arlington Heights who was supposed to work well with autistic children, yeah... no. Finally, my pediatrician recommended Kids First! Once we were referred we found he needed an extraction, which they helped us schedule. Their in house dental insurance was well worth it, I will add. I am very against the use of fluoride, which I was happy the office was friendly to those who wish to decline. If you ever need to have extractions at the hospital, make sure they know you will be declining the treatment during the procedure, however! I was upset that this wasn't communicated from the office, but Dr. Matt was compassionate to my requests and my disappointment and ensured going forward there would be a note on my son's file so it didn't happen again. I was happy to return knowing I was heard and not dismissed. That is important to me. My son is now excited to go to the dentist! He loves seeing the Dr. He is kind, funny, and builds relationships with his patients that makes their experiences that much better. Well done. read more

I stumbled upon Kids First Pediatric Dentistry while looking for a second opinion for my 5-year-old son after we were told he needed extensive work from another dentist's office. Kids First Pediatric Dentistry was able to get us in the very next morning for a consult. To my disbelief my son's dental issues were far worse than the first dentist's office had discovered but we left Dr. Matt's office that morning feeling comfortable and educated in what was needed. The staff then went above and beyond to coordinate so that Dr. Matt could discuss the treatment plan with my husband who was not at the appointment. Today we went in for his 1st of 4 treatment appointments and we couldn't be happier. Kids First Pediatric Dentistry goes above and beyond for their patients, my son walked back to the treatment room with no hesitation and within 45 minutes he had received 2 fillings, 2 caps and 2 extractions with no discomfort (and no mom present ). The doctors and staff take time with their patients and parents to make sure every question and concern is addressed from the time you check in, during treatment and they make sure everyone understands the at-home instructions. I am confident that my son is receiving the best care available and we're grateful to have found Dr. Matt and his office. The woman who answered the phone was rude and sarcastic. It will be my toddlers' first time to visit a dentist so I wasn't sure which number on my insurance card to give her. I just thought she's familiar with group number (how many numbers). I have 2 on my insurance card, the first one is shorter. She sounded irritated. I'm having second thoughts about this place. I just hope the dentist will be patient and nice to my kids. read more
