My child suffered from a debilitating disease that made him allergic to almost every single food, and Mrs. K and her staff could not have been more accommodating. To say they went "above and beyond" would be an understatement. They provided my child with a "special" table that was just his and made a big deal about his "special" food to make him feel important and not like an outcast. They've been not only accommodating, but instrumental to his his health and well being as the level of care and compassion they've shown my son has been unparalleled. Not only that, but he has improved significantly in his education since the daycare he was in previously. He came home singing ZYX instead of ABC at three! The campus is clean, SO cute and fun, welcoming and warm. They have fantastic events involving friends and family. I feel so lucky that we found FI when we moved to richardson. It really is a gem. She loves going to see Nana and sometimes she even calls out for her when she is at home like she misses her. Nana always has art projects and other educational projects for the kids and my daughter always comes home without a drop of paint or anything on her! She is so good, that we have actually changed our mind about moving from where we live so our daughter can go to her until she starts school. It was difficult for us to have children, so trusting someone to care for our precious girl was something I thought would be very hard, but we feel very lucky and blessed to have found her! My son was here for daycare leading up to pre-k and we loved: Ms. Carena, Ms. Brenna, Ms. Cameron, and Ms. Abby (Their cook was excellent as well her name is escaping me at the moment). They took such good care of him I felt like I was leaving him with family. My older son went for after-school care and loved it. They are also affordable compared to the surrounding schools and they have a lot to offer.

My…read more2-year-old has come home with more unexplained injuries in the last few weeks than in our entire two years here. These wounds are often not treated properly, and there have been multiple times where no incident report was filed -- and neither my husband nor I were informed by staff. The assistant director, Vanessa Ortiz, has extremely poor communication skills. It often takes more than a full school day to get a response to emails about serious issues like injuries. When we've tried to address concerns in person, we're met with excuses, not answers -- and certainly no sense of urgency. Also, if you have an issue and ask for the teacher's names (since we don't know their names due to so much turn over), don't expect to get them without the director reaching higher above her and then telling you to reach out to the area or regional director :) Shockingly, some teachers have even stepped in during conversations with other staff and *yelled* at us while trying to defend one another. The stories we're told rarely add up, and it feels like there's a serious lack of transparency and accountability. Supervision in the classrooms is clearly lacking, and poor communication seems to be used as a cover-up rather than a fix. There has also been an alarming amount of turnover among staff and students in just the last two months alone. That said, I want to give a huge shoutout to Mrs. Margie, Mrs. Wanda, and Ms. Jasmine. These amazing ladies are the only reason we're waiting until summer to pull our son. We truly appreciate the love and care you show our baby -- thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Not great. The school's website and staff appeared to misrepresent what the school's strengths and…read moreweaknesses were. The website says they have won awards for being good with kids who have special needs - they were not good with my son, who was just diagnosed with ADHD. The parent manual says they work with parents if kids have trouble in the classroom. They did not work with us, although the director did tell me that they worked with another child for a year until he went to kindergarten and ended up bringing a knife to kindergarten. It seemed like they favor kids who have been there for a long time or whose parents they know, I'm not sure. They did not appear willing to work with our son's therapist to develop a plan for our son, either. The director told us, "sticker charts don't work." I also didn't feel like they did much "teaching." My son did not do one worksheet during his time here. I did not see any educational work coming home. The children in his class seemed to bully a lot for such young kids. They called our son a cry baby and made fun of him for calling his mom "mama." The teacher is very experienced, but she appeared to be worn out or overwhelmed. The facilities are inviting but seem crowded and less than pristine. On the positive side, I will say that my son had fun with a lot of the activities they did, such as the summer luau. The director is pretty good at communicating with parents, even though I felt that she was either biased or dishonest in her communications with me. Bottom line? If your child is a fairly easy kid, and you aren't too focused on your child getting the best educational environment you can find, this school might work for you. If your kid is hyper or challenging like mine, this might not be your first choice.

Another dad, getting into his car, recognized my feelings and reassured me with a smile and "Don't worry. Pretty soon it will feel like family!" He was right. The Octopus Garden has become all three of my children's home-away-from-home. They feel safe. They are loved. They learn. They have good friends. It's a preschool where manners and kindness are taught along with the ABCs and 123s. It is a very special place, a place that is governed by Love. Now when I drop my kids off at The Octopus Garden, they run in happy! They are greeted with smiles and hugs and everyone is eager to begin the day. Each week they are introduced to new concepts, books, activities and are fed healthy meals. The dedicated teachers at The Octopus Garden have become our true allies in parenting. They are our friends and they do indeed feel like our family. My husband and I are comforted with the knowledge that our kids are being provided with the same care and kindness that we provide in our home. We feel so blessed to have The Octopus Garden as our preschool!
