Underwhelming. Save your money and go to Great Clips and buy your kids a lollipop at the grocery store. I needed to buy some presents for a birthday party and I thought my girls could use a cut. I really wanted to book them at the South Barrington location but there were no openings until next week. We have been to this location before and were disappointed but I thought it was just one bad experience so we gave it a go. The stylist asked my girls names and then did not say much else to them. She did not offer them iPads to watch while she cut their hair. She did not do a little braid in the front like they are used to in S. Barrington. I don't think she even handed them a mirror or turned them to face the mirror so that they could see their hair. I am not convinced this lady liked children and based on my experience the last time, this is not a fluke. The haircuts themselves were fine but now my daughter is saying that her hair is ugly and I really feel like it is due to not having the mini braid added and not having the stylist show any interest in her experience. We are so beyond disappointed with our recent experience at this Kid Snips. Let me just start by saying, my son has received a haircut from here before by Nicole and she was FANTASTIC. She was patient and listened to EXACTLY what we wanted. However, this last experience with Emiliya Sh did not go the same. My mother took my son in and explained we only wanted his bangs cut to be out of his eyes, and the back of his neck and ears trimmed, we did not want the rest of hair cut as we didn't want to lose his beautiful curls. Emiliya Sh did not listen and completely ruined his hair. I suspect she messed up his bangs and made them too short and had to go back and cut them even shorter. She cut Vs basically into his bangs, like what is that? His hair is completely uneven and way to short and when my mom told her she was cutting too short she completely ignored her and kept going. It took my mom physically removing him from the chair for her to finally stop cutting his hair as she just kept going and going. He even has a cut on his forehead from her scissors since he was freaking out and my mom asked her to give him a second to calm down and she refused to even do that. I just hope his beautiful curls come back and aren't gone forever, I will be so devastated. They did give my mom a discount and when I called and said she shouldn't be charged at all for that horrendous haircut they offered a free cut next time, but we most definitely will take our business somewhere else. "Could've been better" is a very apt description of our experience at KidSnips. We had a 10:15am appointment this past Sunday for our daughter's first haircut. Although they were running behind and we had to wait 15 minutes, this wasn't taken into account when rating it 2 stars -- things happen, and I'm sure that if I booked KidSnips again, there's a good likelihood that they would be on time. Instead, the two star review actually is because: a) When we were finished, if you told me she had a haircut, I wouldn't have believed you. The whole process took about fifteen minutes, which consisted of literally a centimeter off of her hair, a braid and a bow. I understand that it's a first haircut and we're not trying to scare her by doing a full makeover, but for $23, I would've expected a little more. b) The toy store located within the salon clearly is a cash grab. There is no need to be enticing kids to beg their parents for a toy before/after their haircuts. For a first haircut, I guess this place was OK (we got a certificate with a picture and a clipping of her hair, so that was a nice keepsake), but as far as our "regular" place, we'll look elsewhere. read more

This is an old experience but still I feel the need to say this. I wanted to get my kid's hair all shaved off. On hearing this, they coerced me into getting just a hair cut. It didn't just stop there. The stylist (I have no idea if she still works there or not), Lana, took it upon her to judge and belittle me and my parenting skills. I'm really frustrated. My daughter (due to the pandemic) has never had a haircut before. She also really doesn't like when we brush her hair in general and it's something we work on daily. As soon as we walked in she was very excited by all the toys and the little cars they have the children sit in. However, as soon as she saw kids heads being touched/hair being brushed - she started to get upset. She started to get excited again about getting to sit in one of the cars but as soon as the hair stylist brought a brush to her head, it was a meltdown. The stylist basically stood there staring with her mouth open as if she'd never seen a kid cry before. She offered to have her sit on my lap which we tried but it was very hard to keep her from thrashing around and panicking. There were no words of encouragement from the stylist let alone tips on how to make this work. At one point she said, it's different with the boys because we can hold down their arms and use the hair clippers. The girls we need them to sit still since we are using scissors. Obviously I completely understand that and want everyone to be safe when sharp objects are involved. But why wouldn't you try to get creative and calm her down or make her feel safe?? I've been told that places like this are great with the kids and I was under the impression that they'd be more understanding that this is a scary new experience for a toddler. I got the impression the stylist didn't feel like it was going to work so I said that we were leaving. She said that maybe we could come back and try another time...yeah right. Every time I call to make an appointment for my boys, the first thing I say is that we will work around Jessica's availability; she truly is THAT good! She does a fabulous job of talking to both the parent AND the child, she is incredibly professional yet personable, and her skills are undeniably good. Both of my boys have very different hair types (one has straight hair with crazy cowlicks and the other has a mop of curls), and neither of them have ever had a bad haircut with her. It was my sons first haircut, he is 3 months old. The person on the phone reassured me they could take care of him. Brought him in, person was nice at first I said just a little trim on the sides and leave the top long. Since our son cannot hold his head up, I was asked to hold him up. No problem. He started getting fussy but was good most of the time. When I got to take a look half of his head was basically shaved with shears and bald spots with uneven cuts. Now mind you, my son had about 2 inches of hair and now he has less than a half inch. The person combed his head very hard and he did have a couple soft spots since he was only 3 months old and scratched his face with a comb I do not recommend them for 3 month old cuts as a trim to get hair out of his face and out of his ears is too much for them to handle. read more

This is our first time at this location so I made sure to tell the scheduler ahead of time of our circumstance. She was very friendly and accommodating, and mentioned that she would give us extra time. I was very comforted to hear that. Upon arriving, Lana right away greeted the kids and me. She knew how to talk to small children and was very playful towards them, making them feel comfortable. She was very good with the son with autism and extraordinarily skillful! Despite his crying, skirming around to escape, and head shaking, she managed to cut around the ears and the bottom of his hairline with great accuracy. Pre-COVID, our experiences here were adequate. Some of the staff occasionally acted like it was an inconvenience to have our business; more concerned with their lunchtime than their customers. They did a decent and quick job on my kids' hair, so we came back. During COVID, the staff has acted completely rude and alarmist. I understand about taking precautions, but they were downright nasty to my 2-year-old -- and to my mother and myself (we have each taken him once during the pandemic). Today they didn't even cut his hair -- he got kicked out because of having to be reminded about his mask. Again, I understand the necessity of it -- but the woman assigned to him kept backing about 10 feet away and waving her arms and raising her voice. It wasn't exactly conducive to a calm or encouraging way to persuade small children to cooperate. He has worn his mask on other occasions with some coaxing: it did not have to be an impossible situation. I think they need some better training from their corporate office or something on how to run a business during this admittedly unprecedented time because I am pretty upset with their attitudes. read more
