Although the vegan scene in SJD is a little light, it is growing, however Beach Dogs was one of the…read morefirst to show up on the dining scene and is one of the best. We've eaten here a couple times over more than a year and the food is delicious. My reviews are based on different aspects one may experience while dining in order to more easily be objective on my reviews. Each segment is separately reviewed below and then an average score is derived. Location: 4 Stars Pretty good location within walking distance of downtown SJD. It's a small restaurant with just a couple of tables, but I believe that do quite a bit of takeout. We've never had an issue finding a seat. Menu(attached): 4 Stars * Salads * Hot Dogs * Burgers * French Fries * Sweet Potato Fries Great menu with several options for hot dogs and a couple burgers. They also have some interesting beverages such as flavored oatmeal water and such. The only downside is no alcohol, but I've not lowered the rating because of this. Quality of Food: 5 Stars The food quality is awesome. All house made (I believe) and fresh. The dogs are especially delicious and are my favorite things on the menu, but all of the food is great. Value: 5 Stars Great value for what you get. Portions are good size and as mention with the quality, the food is great. Service: 5 Stars Perfect friendly, prompt service. They remembered us from the previous year, which is really nice. No issues at all. Total Score: 4.6 stars rounded up to 5.

We were so excited to see these guys at the Saturday organic market and to hear they have a cafe in town. At the market we had just the daily water (watermelon ginger--yum!) and intended to visit the cafe to check out the full food menu. At the cafe it was hard to choose given many options, but I went for the Fila dog made from lentils. Other dogos included chickpea, soy or tofu. My partner had the Bulldog black bean burger on their newer menu. Both came with freshly cooked non-greasy fries, and we also shared a half order of the teriyaki cauliflower "wings". The dog was flavorful, wasn't mushy and the half cherry tomatoes on top gave it a nice freshness. It was a smaller dog, and my dad helped me eat my fries, so I wasn't too full (the burger was larger for a bigger appetite). We each had the canela (cinnamon) tea--nice flavor, not too sweet and refreshing. My dad (not vegetarian) had already eaten but said he will definitely come back another time on his own. The owners were so friendly and gave suggestions when we asked for help choosing. We only come to SJdC once a year but I am already looking forward to a return visit to Beach Dog!

They did not skimp on which ones they picked and always put their best foot forward. The highlight of these dinners was the El Mequite. I have not normally associated Mexican dining with great beef, but this place rivals any place I've been (e.g. Manny's in MN, etc.). And, by USA standards, it is very very reasonably priced. We had drinks and the shrimp appetizer to start off with. One platter was good for our party of five. We are all "retirement age" but peppy enough to go after game fish in the Sea of Cortez, so we carry an appetite. The shrimp were plump and not overcooked at all. They were served in a rich sauce as shown in the photo. Yum! We then went on to the main course, which was two platters of Chateaubriand. Each platter is meant for two people, but locals told us that the dual platters would easily serve the five of us. They were right! The pounds of center cut tenderloin and the accompanying vegetables and baked potatoes were more than enough for us after the appetizer and a couple drinks. It was delicious and we ate to discomfort. The dessert was flan and this was tasty and cooked fresh on premises that day. Great stuff! Service was perfectly attentive and, although there is not a lot of English spoken here, there is enough that us gringos were able to easily communicate what we wanted. When you are in LaPaz, this is the place if you are a meat eater!
