I went to LaPaz last week for a fishing trip. The charter service included four nights at local restaurants as part of our package. They did not skimp on which ones they picked and always put their best foot forward. The highlight of these dinners was the El Mequite. I have not normally associated Mexican dining with great beef, but this place rivals any place I've been (e.g. Manny's in MN, etc.). And, by USA standards, it is very very reasonably priced. We had drinks and the shrimp appetizer to start off with. One platter was good for our party of five. We are all "retirement age" but peppy enough to go after game fish in the Sea of Cortez, so we carry an appetite. The shrimp were plump and not overcooked at all. They were served in a rich sauce as shown in the photo. Yum! We then went on to the main course, which was two platters of Chateaubriand. Each platter is meant for two people, but locals told us that the dual platters would easily serve the five of us. They were right! The pounds of center cut tenderloin and the accompanying vegetables and baked potatoes were more than enough for us after the appetizer and a couple drinks. It was delicious and we ate to discomfort. The dessert was flan and this was tasty and cooked fresh on premises that day. Great stuff! Service was perfectly attentive and, although there is not a lot of English spoken here, there is enough that us gringos were able to easily communicate what we wanted. When you are in LaPaz, this is the place if you are a meat eater! read more

This place is a little gem in La Paz. The service is great they greet you the second you walk in. Alejando was very attentive and gave us great recommendations. This is the absolute, hands down, best food in La Paz. If you like melt-in-your-mouth steak, you must try the Chateaubriand! And I'm not sure what they put in their mushroom gravy, but I'm fairly confident it has some kind of unicorn magic included, because it is fantastic! We visited in April and dreamt about their food for 6 months before we could get back to La Paz. We have been multiple times since being back down in the Baja and every time we our eyes glisten, mouths water and we leave full and satisfied... I wish I could work there just to smell their food daily, it's that good! And if Alejandro is your host, be sure to take advantage of his knowledge of Mezcal for the perfect pairing with his custom concoctions! This place is a real gem. I had probably the BEST burger (El Mezquite burger) I have EVER had! Wow! Smoked meat, plus a phenomenal combination of toppings (garlic, onions, 2 kinds of cheese, arugula, and cherries which I never would think to add). The flavor was amazing. My wife got the catch of the day and the fish was cooked perfectly with a great sauce and veggies. And did I mention portion size? Grande - burger took 2 hands and the fish entree could feed 2 people easily. Service was fast, and prices are low. We went 2 nights in a row... wish they had a location in Cabo San Lucas, where we paid over double for less. read more

We ate here three times because it was so good! They are masterful with beef. They cook over mesquite and every time our steaks were cooked perfectly to order. The veggies were perfectly cook and delicious, and the baked potato had the most amazing cream sauce on it as well! This is a MUST if you are visiting La Paz! Dinner here this evening with friends. Charming little place just a couple of blocks from the Malecon and walking distance from Marina Cortez. There were 4 of us and we ordered the Chateau Briand for 4. The portions were generous and delicious and the waitress was attentive and friendly. The meal came with large portions of salad, bread and sides. We're cruising to mainland Mexico this week and I would be back if we were ever here again. Definitely worth every penny! read more

This is one of our favorite places to eat in La Paz. We have always been treated well by the staff and are flattered they can remember us after such a long Covid induced break from the area. One of the best places to be a carnivore in the entire city and the "Mushroom Gravy" is so good I order one to go as a rule. Hamburgers are enormous and the service attentive and really nice. They have a whole page dedicated to burgers and include vegie/portabella vegan burgers - YUM! The sangria was also delicious. Really good local steak and burger place about a block off of the main malecon area. Our group tried each of the steak options, the filet, ribeye and the arrechara and all were good with huge portions. We ended up taking half of each dish back to our Airbnb.
