Had the best meal of the trip at this restaurant. Both the food was great and the service was excellent. It was amazing to watch three people manage all of the tables on a very busy night. If you are able to get a chance to eat here, ask for Adam as he went out of his way to make each table feel special. It is hard to pick out their best dish as both appetizers and main dishes were good. Their portion were quite large so we have to come back again to try some of their incredible looking deserts. We came here for lunch. Their menu online wasn't updated and the Nicoise salad was no longer on the menu so I settled for the Cobb salad. The guava dressing was very good but the salad was mostly romaine, the toppings portion was meager. My husband ordered the fish and chips. We've been here twice. I can't believe I didn't write a review the first time! If you come to volcano, don't miss out on the Kīlauea lodge restaurant! Tonight we brought our 20 year old kids, and they suggested we order family style. Awesome. We got edamame with futikake (seaweed and sesame seed). Delicious! Then we split 4 entrees. We voted on the ranking. Everyone liked all four dishes: 1. Fish of the day (ono) 2. Rack of Lamb 3. Steak 4. Shrimp fettuccini Oh, and we got some really good cocktails. In the area visiting the National Park. My partner and I came in for brunch. We each got a sandwich - I got the Reuben with fries and they got the turkey wrap. The server asked if they wanted fries and my partner asked what other choices there were for sides. The server responded "onion rings or salad". My partner got the onion rings. (More about that at the end.) We split the sandwiches and the sides. Everything was outstanding. The Reuben corned beef was moist (not dried out), the bread was tasty and there was the right amount of dressing and sauerkraut. The fries were delicious, with a nice outside crunch. The wrap tasted very fresh and the onion rings were outstanding. Real onion rings, not onion bits. We ordered only water to drink and the server and a second server came over multiple times to refill our waters. The service was very good. For brunch, there is a trio (two guitars and all three sing) playing Hawaiian and non Hawaiian songs. They were outstanding. The harmonies were just terrific. The group's name is Halana. The ambience is very nice. Very warm and welcoming. One complaint. I considered docking a point for this, but everything else was so great, I'm not going to. But here it is - when a server asks you what side you want, they should tell you if one or more of the alternatives costs more. The server told us the sides were fries, onion rings or salad. He didn't mention that the onion rings cost five or more bucks more than the french fries. I got the bill and the $21 Reuben was $21 with fries. But the $20 turkey wrap was $26 with the onion rings. I wonder what the price difference would be if I ordered the side salad?? That was really disappointing. Food/Drinks 4/5: We came hungry after a day exploring the national park and local caves, so we ordered the Mai Tai, calamari steak app, Catch of the Day (Ono), ribeye, and apple cheesecake for dessert. The drink was not my favorite as the dark rum really changed the taste of what I expect of a standard mai tai. The calamari steak was delicious - amazing crispy outside and buttery soft inside with a nice punch of flavor from the capers and lemon. The ono was a bit disappointing - a bit chewy and lacking flavor, but mixed well with the cauliflower, raisins, and mac nuts on the plate. The real stars were the ribeye (so tender and amazing with the garlic butter on top) and the cheesecake (amazing crust with chunks of apple throughout the cheesecake layer). Service 5/5: Amazingly attentive wait staff; checked on us regularly throughout the meal to make sure waters were filled and clearing plates as soon as we were done. We did not have a reservation, but they were able to accommodate our party. Price $$$: Definitely a pricier dinner option as you're paying more for the ambiance of the restaurant. Wouldn't necessarily say the food measures up to the price, but when we came through around 6pm there weren't a lot of other open options in the area. read more

Great food and service. Loved the lamb chops. Not that a lot of people would complain, but portion size was too large for me, so I guess that means it's good value. We liked one of the paintings on the wall we wanted to purchase. The server told us we could in the store. Unfortunately that was incorrect and we're still trying out how to find it. Went here for the first time today and we were really impressed! I got the Crab Cake Eggs Benedict with Cajun Hollandaise sauce. It was delicious!! The crab cakes were seasoned really well, the eggs were perfectly poached, and the hollandaise sauce was super flavorful Hubby got the Reuben sandwich on marble rye bread. That was super good as well! It had generous amounts of sliced corned beef and it had the right amount of thousand island dressing and sauerkraut (I just wish I took a picture of it). They also had really good options for the kiddos (e.g. Cheeseburger, Chicken tenders, Spaghetti, Buttered Noodles, Mac & Cheese, Grilled Cheese sandwich) so our kids had plenty of great options to choose from. We also received complimentary pumpkin bread with butter. It felt like it came freshly baked out of the oven. Perfectly warm, tender, and lots of yummy cinnamon flavor. The atmosphere was also great. The staff was super friendly despite it being really busy. And they had live music playing as well This has easily become one of my new favorite restaurants on the Big Island . Horrible service and an extremely frustrating experience. I was turned down for alcoholic drinks because the staff assumed my ID was fake. I am traveling from Los Angeles, and not all IDs look the same. There was no scanner used, just assumptions made by the staff. To make matters worse, they kept my ID for a period of time before finally returning it, which was very uncomfortable and unprofessional due to the fact that that's my way home... The most frustrating part is that my ID is absolutely real--there was no valid reason to deny service or treat me with suspicion. This situation could have been handled much more professionally. Making assumptions without proper verification, especially when no scanner is available, is unacceptable. I would not recommend this place based on the poor judgment and service I received. read more

Good food but Terrible service. When the server messed up our order several times, instead of taking ownership of her multiple mistakes, she threw the kitchen under the bus time and time again . When we asked to speak with the manager, so that we can make them aware of this, she became passive aggressive and we never got to speak with anyone else. We all make mistakes but how she handled it made it so much worse. Food was tasty and I think they have a great chef and kitchen staff, but service was bad. What a simply elegant dining experience in the middle of rural Hawaii. There is a long and inviting driveway to a very open and welcoming entrance. The interior is simple, yet has a country elegance to it. The staff was incredibly attentive (I never had my water glass topped so many times). We went there for dinner and the food was quite good but also fairly expensive (when we were there, our check included a "3% Restaurant Surcharge" beyond the menu pricing). We started with the Lodge House Salad, fairly straight-forward, see my pic. It was quite fresh and the vinaigrette was fairly good. Nothing beats a good steak at the end of a day of hiking. So we had the Grilled Ribeye. It was cooked to order and had some Hamakua mushrooms on it. It was seasoned well. Also nothing beats a baked potato, skin and all, with extra butter. (I was just replenishing the calories that I had burned earlier in the day hiking around the volcanoes.) I was a happy camper at the end of this meal. We also shared the Chicken Pillared. As you can see in my pic, the chicken breast had a great golden crust. The mild sauce enhanced the mild chicken. The sides were an interesting mix of flavors that was a good contrast to the chicken breast. We'd put this restaurant in rotation on our next visit. read more

The garlic cheese bread with marinara is served in a hot cast iron skillet, and is absolutely delicious; the crispy brussel sprouts work magic in the mouth. The salad is simple but fresh with a light dressing that goes well with the other food. We shared the local catch, which was ono; the flavor was soft and pleasant. For drinks, we enjoyed the local red wine from Volcano; the flavor is unique so we suggest sampling it first if you're curious. If you want a little caffeine, go for their spiked coffee cocktail; it's a perfect drink to sip by the fire. Our waiter went above and beyond and was very attentive. The first time we visited was 11 years ago, when we were on what turned out to be our babymoon. We visited during the Christmas holidays and the festivity (and quality of food) somehow made an impression on me. So this time when we were traveling around the new years with three little ones in tow, we decided to return given its more formal setting and clean ambience for family comfort. We figured we'd splurge a little and were willing to suffer a wait for the ambiance, but the menu looked much more affordable than we had expected given the touristy location, and there was no wait at 1pm. My lilikoi iced tea had the perfect blend of lilikoi and tea flavor without either being over powering. I loved the kids' lemonade as well. My fresh catch sandwich was juicy and flavorful. Hubs said he enjoyed his crab cake sandwich as well. The kids' menu was typical of kids menus, just the way my kids liked them. All in all, I highly recommend it to anyone stopping by the area wanting a lunch or dinner before or after a tour of the national park. I look forward to coming back next time! read more

Kilauea Lodge is a special place and I recommend you stop by at least once. I love the ferns but also just being at such a peaceful, quiet spot. Service is always welcoming, eggs benedict, crab cakes, local beef and lamb, kids menu, excellent drinks and one of the few places where you can get a nice salad w your burger instead of fries or onion rings. Mahalo for the complimtary pumpkin bread and butter. Papaya dressing was very good.it made me wish I had a little more. I didn't order but Ka'u coffee French press is also available. So - this was a former YMCA? It is crazy to see its evolution! We popped in pre-e-bike ride for some food. We saw staff all over outside, so we knew we were walking into "not just a restaurant" - but it was really a nice find! We were definitely a "late breakfast" order (at the last minute for their kitchen) but they nailed it. I recommend the sausage, for real. It is delicious. The loco Moco was okay - my first experience of tasting it in still chasing, it wasn't seasoned enough "for my liking" but by no means was it bad! And that egg was cooked to perfection. Our server was fast with us - it was only us and one other table at the time we arrived/left, and she never left us feeling unattended. But the people behind us - staying there, clearly made me feel and for the staff because they were less than appreciative of everything around them, being very bitter with their words. We wanted to just come and see the sites of Volcano Village stumbled on a Festival for the day and saw this place. We came in and I was instantly intrigued by the food options. Lamb Burgers, Fish and Chips, Fresh Catch of the day. Our waiter Stephen was super patient and kind. My husband pretty much allowed him to pick out his lunch. The Lamb Burger and then told him to add blue cheese and mushrooms. Listen to Stephen! Oh My! The burger was delicious! He had also suggested the Fish and Chips which is made with Ono. I was nervous to try as my last go round with Ono fish and chips was not a real positive one. So I opted for the fresh catch sandwich. That did not disappoint at all. Wish the cut of Ahi would have been a bit bigger but the flavor was still good. The restaurant is on the smaller side but do not let that deter you.
