Every time we are in town eat at least 2-3 times. This has got to be my favorite Thai restaurant, idk about ever, but one of my tops for sure. All their curries are amazing, but my favorite is the green one! Crab fried rice is insanely delicious! The staff is friendly, ingredients fresh, everything is flavorful and cooked to perfection. I am left satisfied each time. The restaurant is always packed, it's colorful and full of people enjoying their meals. The place feels authentic and on a strip with shops and bars. Went in mid week- lunch time. Food- Avocado spring rolls, they were fresh. Nothing special. The sauce was not special either. Crab fried rice was delicious. Probably the best thing that I ate that day. Pay attention to the heat that you request for your meal we did medium and it was still pretty hot, but we loved it and even at $25 we would definitely order it again. Ambiance- the restaurant appeared clean. The service was polite and quick. I'll definitely be back to explore more of the menu. read more

What can I say, here was a simple Thai lunch that I thought was delicious and rivaled many of the best Thai places I've eaten at on the mainland. Lovely restaurant in a small quiet town. We are vegetarian and found this to be one of the best Thai food we've ever had!! Everything was so fresh and spiced so well. While visiting Hilo in Hawaii this March, I decided to take the friend I was staying with to lunch. I like that food, so he suggested that we go to Nang's Thai restaurant. We happened to be in the area and stopped by the restaurant. The place is not very large, with white linen-covered tables. I ordered a Coconut soup with shrimp, and my friend ordered a Panang red curry with chicken and sticky rice. No tea was served, only some cold tap water. I should also point out that the water is not a given in Hilo and is not very tasty. The food arrived after about 20 minutes or so. The first thing we noticed was that the sticky rice was very lumpy and Cold! I tried the soup and was shocked to discover that it tasted like someone opened a can of coconut milk and just poured it into the bowl. There were a few mushrooms and tomatoes floating, and a few shrimps. I need to indicate that I was a chef some years ago, for 14 years, and Thai food is my favourite. Also, I am a foodie and I do know a thing or two about good food. My friend was not impressed with his dish either. He commented that maybe the restaurant changed hands, as the food was much better in the past. I called the waiter and mentioned to him that the rice was lumpy and cold and did not appear to be fresh. He said that it was not, and it just came out of the rice cooker. I put some rice on a fork and handed it to him. He insisted that it was not cold. We asked him to get us some fresh rice. When he came back with the same badly looking rice, not much better than the previous one, I mentioned to him that I happened to be a chef myself and I do know when the rice is cold. His response was a shocker to both of us! He told me that I was not a Thai chef, so I wouldn't know. I almost told him that he was not a Thai waiter either! At this point, I just paid the bill, which was US$47.02. I did not leave a tip as I found the waiter to be rude and of would never have food there again and would not recommend that anyone else do either. A very bad experience overall! read more

In the beginning, this restaurant was great. During covid the owner had his son who was very very sick hanging out inside the store near the food prep areas which was in my eyes disrespectful to those who didn't want to get sick, but the food quality is my real issue. If you order someone and they don't have the proper ingredients, they will fill it with straw mushrooms and charge you full price. Straw mushrooms are cheap and the break down really fast in hot soup, its disgusting and more importantly not a standard part of any of the dishes I ordered. read more

Delicious Thai food. Fantastic service. Restaurant decor and open air seating was wonderful. People so genuine and accommodating. OK, I got the Pad Thai. It's as good as you'll find anywhere. Banana spring rolls and coconut and ice cream were delicious. It's a bring your own alcohol restaurant. The walk down to the convenience store is a short stroll if you forget to bring any. Thai tea was great. The Mee Ka Ti noodle was so tasty with the homemade coconut milk and peanut sauce. The Ong Choi dish was a rare find in the island. This place is AMAZING! I live in the area and love treating myself to the best crab curry, every once in awhile, but when my mom comes to visit we go at least 3 times a week haha! The ginger dish is super tasty and definitely has a kick to it (in the best way!) the restaurant has a vibe you can't understand through a review, trust me you will have to go and have the experience on your own. My favorite part is that all the food is locally sourced and tastes so fresh! I've been going to Ning's for many years. Everything I've ever ordered has been fantastic. Two complaints: 1) They don't believe me when I order "Thai hot". I bring my own dried and ground Hawaiian hot peppers. If I forget to bring them, well, it's not hot enough, but garrins, it'll be ono. 2) I won't be going back anytime soon because they've raised their prices too high. Time to check the competition... like today. Dinner for two was $120 with light doggie bags and that was without alcohol. I had a Coke. Speaking of which, they charge you for take-out boxes so bring your own. Also, bring your own booze. It's legal in Hawaii because they don't serve it. The staff is delightful and friendly. Love the ambiance. I'd recommend everything about this place if you don't care about money. We park at the bank and take the 2 minute walk. Very pleasant experience. read more

This was one of the few places open past 7 in the area and thankfully it was open to non residents as some of the places in the area are only open to residents. We were seated right away about 7:30 and there were plenty of open tables as many who arrived after us were also seated right away. They were incredibly attentive and efficient. I think many guests benefitted from the spice meter that is attached to every table. It shows how spicy mild is, spicy is etc. They strongly suggest telling your server if you don't like spice to ensure they cook to your taste, my husband did this and was glad that he was able to enjoy the meal without worrying about his mouth burning. We ordered the Calamari stir fry And Fried tofu with chili sauce Sticky rice Fried bananas coconut sauce We weren't too hungry and this definitely did the trick! The dessert of the fried bananas was the best part of the meal. It was so simple but so satisfying. All and all a good place for a meal 3.5 stars read more

Ning's in Pahoa town is a favorite! Get a window seat so you can watch the Puna-tics having a meeting across or in the street. It's totally G-rated aloha hippiness viewing. The Staff at Ning's are really friendly. You must must must get the red rice. Put that down as the foundation for whatever curry dish you might desire. When we dine in, we always order more than we can finish. This assures we have plenty of left overs to create a "cheater meal". We use the leftovers as the flavor base for a slew of fresh veggies from the farmer's market. This way we get to enjoy all the savory and aromatic flavors again, typically with added fresh basil, pumpkin, japanese eggplant and chilis. Highly recommend Nings, and shopping and doing business in Pahoa and Hawaii, these folks have been through a lot the last few years with the lava flows. read more

Everyone loves this place! It is THE spot to dine at or order from in town. I've been here twice during my two week stay and both times, I enjoyed the food! Pictured below is the Tom Kha (coconut soup) with a side of brown rice. The brown rice is more like wild red and the consistency was DELICIOUS. The one piece of feedback I'd give is to cut the ginger and lemongrass into smaller pieces so they can be eaten.
