Our go-to spot when we don't feel like cooking. They never fail us. We always order the same thing: the steak burrito and the steak enchilada. Sometimes we'll get the carne asada too. Everything is always so good! The service is excellent, and they're usually pretty quick. I also love their lilikoi margaritas, blended or on the rocks. After reading recent reviews I was a bit skeptical about trying this place. Boy was I glad I didn't listen to the bad reviews. The food we had was amazing. Actually the best I have ever had. We had the chicken Flautas (chimichangas) with side of beans. The beans were so tasty as the Flautas were. Great salsa and guacamole too!! If I had to say something that I personally didn't really like, it would be their chips. A bit oily but that did not keep me from scarfing them down. The waitress and hostess were both very inattentive and kind. The whole place was comfortable and fun. I will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu. Went back a couple days later and had the Chicken Flauta and Bacon Cheeseburger with a side of onion rings. Not disappointed at all. It was a Friday evening so it was loud from the bar area. I love their take out! You can call to order and pickup! Their staff is so nice and responsive and their food is so good! Not just warm up and serve can tell they have their menu items that are solid and cooked through and packaged with care! I placed a takeout order for a chili rellano anda cheese enchilada, specifying all beans no rice. I made the request for all beans two more times as she seemed to be confused. I picked up my order and got home not only did it have rice, the cheese enchilada was lukewarm. The cheese wasn't even melted! Still in chunks. The chili rellano wasn't any better. I enjoy the food here, but have always had some issues with the service. I think today was the final straw, I had paid my bill, but said I would be sitting a while to enjoy my drink (I had intended to switch from cola to a margarita, but was never asked, I was just handed a bill) I stepped away for a minute, but left my glasses behind as a marker, and came back to my glasses gone and the table cleared. When I complained that I wasn't done I was told that there was a lineup of people, the next door table told me my glasses were up front. I've had good service from a couple of the waiters, but I hate that the hostess will see you waiting to be seated at the register but not even acknowledge you. read more

First night on this side of the island - we needed some Mexican after a stop at Long's. Again, reminded by the locals that "non-tipping people are assholes" from a bar patron, and if you've ever worked in a service industry, you know that to be true. The pork was cooked perfectly - the pork fat was like butter, and made for a perfect mixture with the accouterments for my burrito. Our waitress made sure our waters were full, I had all the beer I needed, and delivered our food the second it was ready. What more could I ask for? This is such a yummy place for Mexican food! Especially when it's so hard to find good Mexican in general on the islands. They give you really big portions and it comes out hot and fast. Tuesday the 18th about 130 the service was horrible. It took over a 1/2 hour to get my burger and then there was a hair in it and then, when I returned the burger, my server didn't even ask if I wanted another one or say oh I'm so sorry about that. She just said OK and grabbed it and walked away, so I sat at the table and I waited about 15, 20 more minutes thinking she would bring me another one... after realizing they weren't gonna bring me a replacement or even apologize and when I mentioned it, I've been waiting over an hour for my food. The one in pahoa is much better than Hilo luquins. I ordered a chicken nachos from Hilo $15 barley any chicken and filled with refried beans not worth it. Compared to Pahoa luquins $12 and it was very much more satisfying and delicious. read more

There's no sign outside of the building saying the restaurant's name, and the curb appeal could use some work, looks more like a dive bar than a restaurant. As soon as we walked in the service was fantastic! 5 stars to the staff! Really super busy and loud when we arrived it slowed and quieted as the evening wore on. Not much for atmosphere bright no real decorations to speak of. I couldn't hear any music but perhaps because I couldn't even hear the others at our table! The server hand carried 4 drinks to the table (no cocktail tray) and plopped them down leaving those that had Margaritas to figure out which type was which. This place is a staple here in Pahoa. People come here for drinks, food and a lot of socializing. You can often hear staff calling customers by their name as they enter into the restaurant. The service here is friendly and prompt. The restaurant gives off that place away from home vibe/cheers atmosphere with of course the ambiance of a usual Mexican restaurant. The food is great enough to come back again. My personal favorite are the shrimp fajitas paired of course with a nice mango or coconut margarita on the rocks. I really can't compare the authenticity since I've not had a great amount of Mexican food but how can you mess up a good taco or burrito? My husband loves the shrimp nachos while my daughter always goes for the side of rice and beans. This is a great stop along your visit of the Puna area. read more

Now mostly a tourist trap, and to be completely honest this place UESD to be good...it no longer is. Last 2 times I went I decided to give them a pass because the food quality took a massive hit. I went back recently during a slow time hoping that things were better. It actually got worse. Ordered a wet pulled pork burrito and it was mostly just a puddle of canned sauce poured over the burrito. It was mostly inedible and flavorless. The plate was basically wet mush. My friend ordered carne asada nachos, simple enough right? Yeah it was 80% jalapeños, 15% stale bagged chips, and 5% "chopped steak" which looked like a dog chewed it and spat it back up also had a bed of old dark lettuce. I know people who once worked at this establishment and they have unfortunately told me about the unsanitary conditions that the cooks allow to take place, and unfortunately you can taste and see it in the food. Server was kind, hence any stars. Taco Bell is a little more authentic than here with better quality steer clear. The food in the pictures was about $32...insanity. read more
