    shelves of pickles and jars
    Yuk L.

The sweet heat pickles is why I came in with my family. They needed another jar and we decided to stop in for our afternoon jaunt into town. They ended up getting several other items. But we came away with a few jars of the sweet heat pickles. I have been happily snacking on them. Looks like I'll need to return to restock.

Kilhaney's pickles are the best! The varieties are amazing. The staff in the Clinton and Hackettstown stores are great.

We loved everything about this place! Summertime is a great…read moreseason to explore places far and away especially rest for great food. ‍ As I was searching for farms and produce stands, I noticed this business and since I love pancakes here, there and everywhere, I planned a day away that included farm stands, backroad NJ scenic driving and fruity pancakes. Due to circumstances beyond my control, we arrived at noon on Thursday, breakfast ended at 11am and so we pivoted to lunch items that included a Boars Head cheesesteak, chips and pickle plus a really tasty cheeseburger . As we were leaving, my husband decided on a large chocolate peanut butter milkshake which he deemed awesome. (Thanks Todd for stepping in and making one) We stopped at our pre planned list of farm stands and headed home. Very next day, Friday, up at dawn to get a few chores out of the way so we could head out to Gronsky's for the day #2 breakfast deadline! I prefer sitting at the counter and watching their magician, Tyler, assemble the food for orders, crack open the eggs, drop the pancake batter in the proper corner and keep all meats aligned for the plates. He's the king of that kitchen and each one of those servers is the queen doing the hustle, bustle, slide to the left, back up and move forward like square dancers on the move. From the Taylor ham, provolone and fried egg sandwich on that FRESH Kaiser roll to the omelette with those delicious home fries and my PEACH PANCAKE . . . . all of it was their special take on breakfast served their way. Almost 50 years, folks! Prices are absolutely reasonable for how the food is prepared and presented, quality ingredients cooked according to diners' specifications. What more can you ask for? We'll be back for September POTM!!

It was very busy when we got there, but they had three employees working between the walk-up window and the inside counter, so the line kept moving. There is plenty of seating both inside and outside, which made it easy for our group to find places to sit and enjoy our ice cream. Even with the crowd, the staff did a good job keeping up with the orders and everything moved along efficiently. If you're looking for a classic spot to grab some ice cream on a warm evening, Gronsky's is definitely worth a stop.

I went in tonight to pick up two pies I had ordered online. They weren't quite ready yet, so I sat down to wait and was immediately greeted by the young man working the register. He then proceeded to do something that feels like a lost art these days: he actually talked to me. A few minutes later, the guy making the pizza joined the conversation too. In the span of a 10-minute wait, we talked about college, sports, music, and pizza. It was such a nice change from the usual "face in the phone" experience you get in so many places now, where customer interaction feels like an afterthought. Then, when one of the pies didn't look up to their standard, they made me a new one and gave me the original pie for free. So basically: go for the pizza, which is excellent, but stay for the great customer service. Solid spot.

Scuola Vecchia first timer but definitely will be coming back for dine in with friends. Margherita pizza is really good. First one wasn't good and unfortunately this one isn't much better…read more My husband stopped by looking for whole fish, which they happily had but it was larger than he wanted so he opted to buy me lunch since I work nearby. The issue is that the sandwiches sound delicious on the menu but the reality doesn't live up to my expectations. My husband order some spicy Mexican inspired fried catfish sandwich for himself and a fried scallop sandwich for me. The sandwiches presented well but both lacked flavor, salt & seasoning in general. Even the soups; one was supposed to be red lentils but looked mostly yellow lentil and again desperately needed salt for one and would have been improved with additional seasonings. Whoever made the manhattan clam chowder got the recipe correct. It was the only thing that was tasty without needing alteration. The owner is nice and after my first poor review offered to make me a replacement but I didn't take him up on the offer. If they only get it right while someone is watching over their shoulder, what's the point. It is NOT a cheap lunch so to be disappointed is a real bummer. Better to stick with the raw seafood items or some prepackaged items (hummus & great flatbreads).

After checking out the plants and garden items outdoors, we decided to go inside to look at the produce and merchandise located in the shop. My husband loves cherries, and I thought we might purchase one of the two remaining pints that was all they had. Unfortunately I saw that several cherries were moldy on the top of both pints. I pointed it out to the lady working there, who said that she just sorted them that morning and didn't notice any problems. I then walked over to the tomatoes, a favorite of mine, and picked up several which was also moldy on the stems!! Obviously they are still trying to sell older fruits and vegetables and didn't have the turnover when fresh. The only thing I knew couldn't spoil was the flavored honey sticks, and I purchased three for a dollar. Quite a disappointment and we won't visit them again.
