We came in before the kitchen closed, so we were able to order. We knew what we wanted right away. I got the meatballs for appetizers and my wife got beet salad. I got the lasagna. Food was perfect and delicious! I picked the lasagna because the sauce sounded delicious. The BEST lasagna is here! I'm getting the lasagna again! It's my new favorite dish, only here. One those rare places you are lucky to have came across. I was looking for a place to eat Italian food in area recently because it's my girlfriend favorite cuisine when I happened to find this place on Yelp. The reviews and the food looked good, so me and my girlfriend made our way over there. Clinton is a quaint little town that I first fell in love with almost twenty years ago, but I'd never even noticed this place because it sits behind Riverside Coffee and Tea on Main Street. I was pleasantly surprised at how cute and romantic this place is. I can only imagine eating here while it's snowing outside and sitting next to the fireplace or on a beautiful spring evening outside as the sounds of the water spill over the dam as it sits right next to the river and is a stones throw from the old grist mill which is now a museum. We walked in and were greeted by a server who walked us to a table in the back where the fireplace is. It's a cozy atmosphere with plenty of windows to enjoy the beauty of the river and mill plus everyone was to themselves enjoying their company, vibes, food, and drink. I loved that! We brought a bottle of limoncello since it's BYOB and they brought us a table side champagne ice bucket to keep it and our sparkling water cold. We started with a bottle of S.Pellegrino and the complimentary bread and oil infused with herbs. We ordered the fried zucchini for a starter. After we finished the starter we ordered chicken Parmesan for my girlfriend and ricotta gnocchi for me. My gnocchi and sauce were excellent and cooked perfectly. My girlfriend's chicken Parmesan and pasta were also excellent. The food was so good that we ordered desert which is rare. We got the ricotta pistachio cake which was a perfect desert for a perfect evening. This is the WORST restaurant. Took 45 min for the waiter to take our order and had to hunt him down to take it. Then took over an hour to get the food. We were there for almost two hours before we got the food. Wait staff is not friendly. We were charged $10 for a credit card fee. Portions were small and food was at best fair. Save yourself time and money and go somewhere else. Just horrible. Will never go again. read more

I THINK THEY DON'T ACTUALLY WANT CUSTOMERS! So sad - beautiful atmosphere. Had come here before and wanted to try again because the food and atmosphere were decent. Even though the wait staff seemed abrupt bordering on rude, still wanted to try it again. Not worth the hassle. Came 5 minutes before reservation. Had to find someone as there was no one at the hostess station. Party sat down. Nothing. No server showed for 20 minutes. Went and found one. Finally came over and poured water for half the table and said the specials, gave every 3 people 1 menu and left. Nothing. No one for another 20 minutes - not even a "someone will be with your shortly." Set a timer. If someone shows in 3 minutes, we'll stay. Came in 3 minutes. Told him we were ready to order. He quickly poured the rest of us water and HE LEFT - almost mid sentence! Went to clean another table and then ignored us AGAIN! It was almost as though they didn't want us there. Got up an left. Really really wanted to stay, but at this point it was over an hour after our reservation and we were all starving. read more

SHOCKED AND APPALLED - WORST DINING EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. My father ordered the flounder and, after only a few bites, began choking on multiple small bones hidden in the fish. Thankfully he could still breathe, but it was a terrifying experience. When we informed our waiter while my father was struggling (clearly breathing deeply and drinking a lot of water), instead of showing concern or offering help, he argued and said, "I'm sorry but it's fish, what do you expect?" -- a backhanded apology with zero empathy. When we asked for a manager, he arrogantly replied, "You can speak to me." There was no manager on site, and when we insisted on speaking to one over the phone, the waiter kept trying to take our number instead. We told him to call the manager while we were standing there, and he finally did -- handing my mom his iphone. The manager repeated the same dismissive comments: "Fish have bones, that's it." No apology, no concern, no attempt to make things right. The waiter even raised his voice at my mother while she calmly explained what happened. To make matters worse, they charged us full price for the meal. When questioned, the waiter said, "Well, I came by and asked how it was, and you did say good." For a restaurant that charges $25+ per plate, serves only bottled wine (no glass options), and barely offers any bread, the lack of professionalism and basic human decency was appalling. We left disturbed and deeply disappointed by how this was handled. read more

Everyone left happy, and I'm looking forward to returning with my family, so I think our meal deserves five stars. Eating in Clinton next to the river always provides a nice ambiance, as well. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food here. I had grown accustomed to restaurants with views having mediocre food. Not here. We had a magical night eating al fresco with views of the Raritan River. There was music in the air and we enjoyed our appetizers of Carpaccio and steamed clams. Both dishes a bit too salty, but still tasty. One of us had the Flounder Frances, one the chicken Martini and I had the Rigatoni Torino. The bolognese sauce on my pasta was decent but the peas were hard - either undercooked or just not good quality. The service was ok, nothing spectacular but always appreciate the profession! Met an old friend here for lunch today and it was perfect! The view of the bridge and waterfall from the patio was spectacular! The Caesar chicken wrap that I had was one of the best that I've had in years and the service was fast and friendly, well done! This place is a good 35 minute drive from home but I already told my wife that we're going back for dinner. Bonus- the town of Clinton is adorable with lots of nice shops, coffeehouses and dessert places to try. Really nice surprise! read more

Went for a visit yesterday to the town of Clinton, New Jersey, about 45 minutes from me. The day was gorgeous as a friend and I meandered around the town. We stopped for lunch at the River Mill View about 12:45 p.m. It was pretty crowded but a patio table by the water had just opened up so we lucked out, now being able to enjoy the view over our leisurely lunch. There were only two waiters working who were hard-pressed to keep up with the demand of seating, waiting, serving, etc., but who maintained a friendly and efficient disposition throughout. We did have a long wait to place our order, however we had been served water and we were in no rush - the day was gorgeous and the venue beautiful. Our meals, once ordered, did not take too long to reach the table. We both ordered the salmon entree which included mashed potatoes and spinach, and was absolutely delicious. Portions and prices were reasonable for a lunch. The menu had a number of interesting selections including apps, wraps, and other entrees. We both were extremely pleased with the lunch, the service, the view, and the amount of time we could relax and enjoy the meal. read more

The service was absolutely impeccable. Not just good... over the top good. Drive me to go right to my yelp app and leave a review kind of good. Food was incredible! Beef carpaccio app was the best Ive had (Ive had a lot). My Pappadalle Amatriciana was excellent. Just an amazing dish in its simplicity. Finished if off with crème brûlée and a great one at that. These days it's expensive to go out to eat everywhere, so when you do go out, you want everything to be amazing. River Mill View gets as close as you can hope for. Ambiance is warm and elegant, but not overstated. Our waiter was attentive and personable. I ordered the fettuccine with clams, shrimp, and scallops fra diablo. It was delicious. The sauce had just the right amount of kick to it without being obnoxious. The only comment I have is that I expected the dish to be served with sea scallops, but alas, it offered bay (small) ones (menu did not specify). My daughter ordered the flounder frances with mixed vegetables and mashed potatoes. Delicious. The flounder was lightly battered, but with a delicate taste. For dessert, I would stay away from the tartufo. It seemed commercially made. Next time I would order something I am sure is made from scratch. And yes, we will be going back...soon. After we were served the waiter never asked if everything was ok. Because it wasn't. But we ate our food without the desired P armigiano cheese. After we ate we were not asked if we wanted dessert or coffee. For 10 bucks I bought 2 coffees at another store after dinner. We came here in a Sunday at 1:30 back in October of 2022. We ordered the black Angus burger, shrimp scampi, and the steamed clams. The burger was a total disappointment. Burger was small, dry and overcooked. It almost tasted like it was a frozen, ready made burger! Even the frozen Bubba burger tasted better than their Angus burger! They put a small piece of lettuce and and lots of onions with the burger. They were stingy with the fries, there was only maybe 10 pieces. The shrimp scampi was ok. The steamed clams was SO SALTY, we couldn't even eat it! Couldn't even taste any butter or wine sauce. Didn't get to take a pic of the clams and the shrimp scampi. Service was ok. I've been going to eat at this location for over 10 years. New owners took over about 3 years ago and really upgraded the indoor ambience and the food quality and selection. The outdoor patio is very large has its length along the South Branch of the wide and fast flowing Raritan river with the bank to bank waterfalls, the iconic Red Mill and antique bridge in full view. It is a spectacular setting. Today I had a a short rib sandwich with mushrooms onions and mozzarella cheese. It came with fries or salad. It was great. Every bite. You can bring your own wine or they also have some available. The service was friendly and efficient and not at all rushed even though we were old friends catching up and talking a lot before ordering. My wife had the salmon dish with delicious mashed potatoes and two friends each had the smoked salmon sandwich. We had them cut up one delicious tartuffo among us to share. I live 35 minutes away in central Jersey and love meeting friends there who come from Allentown PA. We try to eat there also when we walk in Ken Lockwood Gorge. It's a great place and It heartily recommend it for both the surroundings, service and the food. read more

Just had a very nice lunch here. Table by the river with good food and attentive service. However, this place is hard to find. It's behind the Clinton Bike Shop along the river. Stopped here by chance after going on a hike with our dog. So dog friendly. She got a bowl of water before we got our water. Lol. The food was delicious and very flavorful. Perfect portions.
