Dr. Burkmar is kind and very knowledgeable, but this teaching facility is unreliable at best and dangerous at worst. They put my patient information into the computer inaccurately, where it became part of the entire DeKalb medical system and also fouled up my prescription renewals with wrong drug and dosing information. It took two days to get it straightened out through the pharmacy. I was not allowed to correct my own information at the doctpr's office. Next visit, they left me in the exam room while the office closed for the day! The doctor had already gone home. At the front desk, I was handed a scheduled order for major hospital tests including nuclear mammography, when I had only come in for a swollen wrist! Shocked, I asked why. They treated me as if I were stupid and would not answer me. The order didn't even have hospital information, just "GMC". Then the checkout clerk insisted on charging for the visit even though I have a $0 copay. I called my insurance company, who told me not to pay them. She told the others locking the door to "go ahead and let [me] out; she would just mail [me] the bill anyway." I called the insurance company back to file a formal complaint. I learned from my insurance company that these hospital tests they scheduled had not been pre-approved, so a claim for the tests would have been flatly denied, and I would have been on the hook personally for tens of thousands of dollars -- bankrupted by a clerical error! I had to personally track down "GMC" on the order and cancel the tests myself to keep from being charged. Never, ever going back! I'd give them a negative-star rating if I could.
