Last night I went into Kilwins and was greeted by Kate- she was accommodating, entertaining, and knowledgeable, and she even got my friends who insisted they didn't want any chocolate to buy and eat chocolate while we all chatted. The ice cream was just ok, seemed to me like it's been sitting a while probably because not many people want to spend $9 for a scoop of ice cream. We try to support all the merchants in Geneva, but had never tried Kilwins, which is a Michigan-based chain, I believe. Had it one other time years ago in a touristy location in Michigan and it was OK. Last night we met another couple to walk Third Street and it was after Graham's had closed, which is our usual ice cream stop. We decided to try Kilwins and it was ordinary ice cream and Kilwins lacked on the customer service experience and it was ultra expensive. One scoop of ice cream in a paper cup for eight dollars before tip. We asked for a glass of water to have with our ice cream, which is always good, but were told that they could only sell us plastic bottles of water. Found that to be poor Customer Service and certainly not green. I asked the other couple if they would go back to Kilwins and they said no. One of them remarked that the ice cream she just bought was more expensive than her whole dinner at Tia Carmen for Taco Tuesday. Back to the local merchant Graham's for us. . read more

It was the tiniest portion we've ever seen and were charged $7, no waffle cone or anything extra. Can't imagine how much is a normal sized cone there. $15? When I voiced my concern with the owner/manager over the size of that scoop and a sky high price, she said there's no point of arguing that. It's pretty awesome! Free fudge tasting! Lots to choose from: fudge, to dipped delights, petite fours, bon bons, ice cream, shakes/malts, ice cream cakes to popcorn. What stood out was chocolate dipped or pecan and caramel dipped rice krispee treats on a stick (looked divine). Even if your not a chocolate fan there is something for everyone. Good service with a smile. When I was there the ice cream line was building up and hardly anyone in the front half for chocolate delights. It is kinda overwhelming all the choices here. I wish they had several separate stands with samples and employees explaining a little background to their magic. Kilwins is a chain ice cream shop and you can see a bunch all over the US, mostly in cute little towns down their main street. Personally, I think Kilwins is a little overrated. They have a wide variety of ice creams, but nothing too unique. Most of the flavors are pretty standard, although the peach is really good and refreshing during late summer. The service at this particular location is good and everyone is nice and prompt with your orders. However, I think the ice cream is very overpriced. This is true of all Kilwins locations. The price is just so high, I find it hard to justify getting ice cream from here since there is nothing that stands out about it. If they had a unique selection or funky decor that draws you in, I might see the appeal. However, it is just regular ice cream you can get anywhere with a bland ambiance. You can walk into any ice cream parlor and get this experience without paying $15 for a quart or $7 for a one scoop cone. I usually pass on Kilwins and go to non-commercialized ice cream parlors. However, their ice cream is good, just not worth the price in my opinion. read more

So we decided to spend our September date day in Geneva. During our time popping in & out of cute little shops in the downtown area we bumped into a Kilwins. We fell in love with the brand a few summers ago during our vacation at Lake Geneva so it was definitely a treat to enjoy this ice cream during our day-out. As usual the flavors did not disappoint. My hubby opted for a nutty-inspired combo with butter pecan and New Orleans praline pecan. While I stayed with my traditional coffee cappuccino treat. The counter attendant was super accommodating and offered to split my scoop so I could enjoy two flavors without the extra calories. Since it was a beautiful afternoon we decided to sit out on the patio to enjoy our treats. This place is super nice. I was in downtown Geneva for breakfast. It is hard to resist the heavenly chocolate smell when you walk past - even better when you walk in. The store is large and offers a variety of chocolates, candies, and ice cream. I have been here a few times in the past. My favorite item is the dark chocolate covered orange peels. Sooooo good! I could eat a pound of these by myself. It's centrally located. There is garage parking and street parking located near by. There are also a lot of restaurants and places to shop. It's highly worth a trip to visit this place. I usually can't resist walking by it. It also has seating and chairs. It's a nice place to visit with family. I wasn't able to try there ice cream but by the look of the line it must me good. I picked up a few Taffy Apples and they were fresh and so good. This place was very busy but barely no waiting. Five words. Double peanut butter pie ice cream. It's rich, creamy, and satisfying without an overwhelming peanut flavor. And to have it on their waffle cones, which they make in house, that takes it over the top. It's only a seasonal flavor, but I hope they keep this flavor on the menu. This place is across from The Litte Traveler. I was on a rush but ordered a milk shake from chocolate coconut. Oh my gosh. It was so amazingly delicious. Not too sweet, just perfect. While I was waiting for my drink I noticed they have so many things. They have all sorts of milk or dark chocolate covered stuff. The place looks pretty cool. It has a nice sitting area. We stopped in yesterday while attending the Concours d'Elegance car show. It was about 105 degree's with the heat index so business was hopping. The lines weren't unreasonably long and this Kilwin's has a good number of tables/seats counting those in and outside. Luckily we were able to nab three bar stools next to the fudge production counter. The service was pretty good considering the lines. Kilwin's never disappoints with their ice cream selection. It's very heavy and really good no matter which flavor you choose. Normally they offer samples and I believe they were yesterday, but when the place is packed it's best to know what you want by the time you reach the counter. I had a couple scoops of the salted caramel which was as good or better than any I've ever had. I'm also a fan of the toasted coconut flavor, although I've only had that at a Kilwin's in MI. If you're looking for a fully leaded ice cream Kilwin's is a safe bet. They aren't cheep though. read more

Kilwin's ice cream is well known to upper-Midwestern ice cream lovers. It has a cult following and its casual customers. Fortunately, the chain is on the rise, starting in Traverse City, MI, a while ago, with no loss of quality. This is a chain of sorts but they are INDIVIDUALLY OWNED. Each store reflects the personality of the owner, from cleanliness, hygiene, design, service, samples, etc. I have visited many Kilwin's ice cream stores and they have all been "good"; the Geneva, IL store is the best. Previous to this review, I would have said the Traverse City store was best but after 5 visits in the past two months to "Tom's" Kilwin's store; his store has been upgraded to number one. It is cleaner, friendlier, more welcoming, and more cozy than the others. I call it's "Tom's store" because in my five visits, I've coincidentally interacted with him twice. He is friendly, professional and "gets" the service business. In one visit, he adjusted the flavor of my wife's fresh squeezed lemonade twice, gladly; not fake gladly: sincerely gladly. He watches over his well trained and competent staff, without micro-managing them. The employees are obviously happy as they serve sample "tastes" to be sure what you order will meet your expectation. This can not be faked. Happy is happy and happy is infectious. The quality of the ice cream is as-good-as-it-gets. The portions are large. Many of the cones are homemade, in front of the customers. Kilwins is a wonderful addition to 3rd street in Geneva! It's a go-to after dinner or for a quick date. They offer some really interesting flavors - my favorite being Salted Caramel! In addition to ice cream, they have lots of great chocolate. You need to try their turtles! Holy smokes. Those are incredible! Even with a long line on a weekend, the staff will always offer samples. There are typically younger adults (I would guess high school and college age) working, and they are all nice as can be! You can tell they all get along and enjoy working at Kilwins. Prices are expensive compared to the other ice cream shops down the street, but it's obvious their sweets are great quality. Street parking is available and can be limited at night and on weekends. This Kilwins location discriminates against customers! I am unable to wear a mask due to a health condition. The Illinois mask mandates states that businesses must reasonably accommodate people who unable to wear them according to the Disabilities Act. I was told I could not be served because I can't wear a mask. My little girls were really bummed to be refused service. But thankfully we live in Wheaton and were not discriminated against there for our health issues! I recommend supporting the Wheaton location! read more

I come here arguably often and one of their short brown haired workers (i think her name is Mallory) has always given me outstanding customer service! However, on occasion when i come to my favorite desert spot, she isn't working. When this happens, however i am saddened, another one of my favorite Kilwins employees are working. Corey is also an asset to the operation that this ice cream shop is! Both workers have never shown anything but outstanding attitudes towards their jobs. Geneva Kilwins, keep it up! My husband and i stopped in for milkshakes and i went outside when he paid... went he came out he said never again and looked frustrated.... and that is not at all like him. He said our two milkshakes were more expensive than getting steaks at fresh market. Over $15.00 he said he was joking with the clerk about the price and she said the prices are posted in two places so rude that he said if I was not outside with my drink he would have left both drinks on the counter and walked out. I have always had a thing for fudge but after becoming pregnant it is like air to me. I can't go without it. Thankfully, I have a Kilwin's nearby and they absolutely have the most delicious fudge anywhere, ever, in the world. It is always fresh, soft, and delicious... it literally melts in your mouth. As an added bonus to anyone who is conscious of ingredients or food additives, I asked to see their ingredient list during one of my visits, and these products are as pure as can be. There are literally between 3-6 ingredients depending on the type of fudge and that is as good as it gets in my book. Kilwins feels like your everyday neighborhood ice cream / candy parlor... except it's a franchise. Regardless, I love walking inside and perusing all the candies, fudge, ice cream...... My girlfriend and I usually share a waffle cone with a single scoop, which comes to about $5.25 (I think). This is heavily leaning towards the expensive side, but we both agree the ice cream is delicious and sometimes you pay for the experience as well. Walking around downtown Geneva and I come across a town favorite, Kilwin's Chocolates & Ice Cream, and decided to check it out. I walk in and I felt like a little kid in a candy shop. I'm greeted by server named Ben and asked what he could get us. I explained that it was our first time being here and we were checking things out. Ben said that they hand make their fudge there in the shop and offered some to us. I asked what their most popular fudge was and Ben said the sea salt caramel fudge was pretty popular. He gave me and my date a piece and we were in heaven! The blend of the sea salt and caramel, even though I'm not a fan of caramel, melted together with the fudge had me knocked out with delight! After giving us fudge, he asked what our favorite ice cream was and I asked if they carried blue moon. "What?! You're seriously asking me that?! Of course we do!," Ben said. If I didn't die before from the fudge, I certainly died from him saying they had blue moon. Most of the time, I have a difficult time finding blue moon ice cream so when I heard they carried it, my heart fluttered. Ice cream is great, but Covid protocols are poor. Employees usually have masks off until someone enters the shop. Then they wear the masks covering mouth only and not nose. We had to ask repeatedly that the person serving us wear their mask fully. Then as soon as the transaction was completed, the employee pulled the mask back down.
