Kilwins has been a favorite for years! We have frequented locations all over Michigan over our the years and found the flavors quite consistent!! We only ever get ice cream, so that's all I can speak on here! :) I always expect a line and almost always find one. ;) In our experience they keep the line moving along and the wait is never too much to bear! ;) The ice cream choices are numerous and this location conveniently offers a QR code that you can scan to take a look before the flavors are before you! The only problem is that I didn't notice this until someone else pointed it out - it wasn't obvious and I could not find a menu on the wall as I am accustomed to! I'm glad someone else noticed because I needed some time to properly go through the flavors and make my decision! ;) With a regular size cone you can only choose one flavor - I appreciate when 2 flavors are allowed, but I understand when it's not. So many delicious choices make it hard for me to choose just one! ;) A favorite for years has been the toasted coconut! On this recent visit I was so surprised to see that they now offer a chocolate toasted coconut option - of course I had to try! While it was good, it didn't trump the OG!! Another family fav is the yellow cake batter!! Kilwins makes their own waffle cones, you can tell by the amazing smell when you enter the door! They are delicious and often served still a little warm, which is my favorite!! The only downside to this quaint and adorable little beachside shop are the price points! This location runs higher than other locations we've visited that are not along the lakeshore beach towns... :( They are quite expensive and families with several to feed will notice that pretty quickly! This is the reason I can only give 3 starts... I wish the prices were more reasonable - this has kept us from choosing Kilwin's many times over the years as there ARE other equally amazing options in town with much better prices for a delicious ice cream cone!! read more

For the most part, ice cream is ice cream, there are a few brands that are more delicious than others, but this is pretty standard HOWEVER, the prices have gotten so exorbitant, that I won't even bother going there any longer. Not just for ice cream, either, but for all their sweets. I'd rather just walk by and smell the waffle cones cooking and pay $11 for one scoop of ice cream or $5 for a tiny truffle. This ice cream is great but a bit expensive. I ordered an ice cream in a waffle cone which ended up being $9. The wait wasn't too long and the service was awesome! There's a disregard for customers, and they seem more interested in socializing among themselves behind the counter and toward the back than taking your order. It's hard to say anything bad about ice cream, but I would like to be as fair as possible to the other places in town. We had a double scoop strawberry chunk and coconut chocolate. The coconut chocolate reminded me of a German chocolate cake which I adore; however, the strawberry fell a little short on richness and texture which I would expect from a homemade ice cream establishment as this one. Friendly and clean. Huge portions!! We got the chocolate brownie in a waffle cone and could barely finish it! Waffle cone was warm and crunchy. We went on a Saturday night and it was PACKED! I was surprised by all the negative reviews on here because Kilwins is a chain and pretty standard across locations. Stopped by on a Saturday night around 9pm. Yes, the line was crazy long but there's not much else open at 9pm besides bars, so I totally understand why it's going to get crazy here. I felt bad for the overworked staff as a "now hiring" sign listed vacancies for almost every single position. We probably waited about 45-60 minutes (no bathrooms!) and headed back out into the night. Definitely more $$ than I'm used to shelling out for ice cream, but it's a resort area and people will pay that so why not. So just be prepared to wait a while and pay a lot but other than that, it's great! read more

At no fault of the staff, service was poorly designed. Staff would take one order, then cash them out, one at a time causing huge lines. Also, while the ice cream is good, it's $7.50 for one scoop and $10.50 for two scoops (including tax). So expensive for so little ice cream. read more

Alright guys, you need to give this place a break. It's decent ice cream at a reasonable price (it's not like management can control the prices anyway). Whenever I come to South Haven, I always always always come here. I grew up eating Kilwin's ice cream at their location in St. Joseph, so this place always reminded me of my childhood. When customers have over 30 flavors to choose from, don't expect the fastest service. Every employee is tending to each and every individual and that can take time when you're dealing with some indecisive folks. Not to mention, do you have ANY idea how hard it is to scoop ice cream sometimes? If it's a fresh batch, not even the Hulk can manage to get a full scoop on the first try. As someone who has worked in the food industry, I understand how customers can get when they're waiting. It isn't fun for anyone, but these kids try their hardest. I'll keep coming to this location for as long it's there. Keep up the good work! I'll be back for some sea salt caramel goodness. read more

Loved the ice cream here. Super nice staff and happily willing to help out with picking the ice cream flavor that would best satisfy you. I ordered a hot fudge sundae and it was probably the worst one I have ever eaten. The quantity was a very light scoop of vanilla ice cream, hot fudge (was odd tasting), whipped cream was soupy. When the cheapest thing is over $5 for ice cream, there's a problem here for a ice cream/candy shop. This place is in a great part of town- Central! Perfect for grabbing some ice cream and then walking down to the board walk to enjoy the sunset. A summer staple in Michigan Beach towns. The ice cream is good, very good. Large servings for a single in a waffle cone. You get two large scoops. There is usually a long line. Price is above average, chocolate, carmel corn, and fudge is over priced. Coffee is very good. I recommend coming in for coffee if you have strong will power and can resist the smells of delicious fresh made fudge. I would rank them as my 6th favorite Michigan Ice cream 1. Very disappointed with the quality of the ice cream! I asked to see the ingredient list since my family avoids artificial colors and flavors. I was surprised how many have added colors- even the raspberry sorbet had a few added colors. I feel very disturbed that they are serving this to any anyone but especially children. They say that it's homemade but it seems that it is coming more from a laboratory. Check the ingredient list before you order. Every summer I go here at least once. They are so unprepared for weekend and holiday business every year. It's a tourist town and should not be running out of caramel apples, waffle cones, or the most popular icecream. This has happened every weekend that I go. They are always out of one of these items. Very popular place in South Haven for Ice Cream. They also serve coffee and have specialty candies and fudge. I actually think there is a Kilwins close by in Plymouth, but truthfully I have never been in there before. We went in for ice cream but got a frozen banana, which was covered in chocolate and sprinkles or nuts. Yummy!!! Hubby got a coffee, was made very fresh, but it was unbearably hot and took quite a long time to make. We were in South Haven as tourists. We RV full time and our freezer is not large enough to hold ice cream. Soooo! We hit different ice cream shops all over the U.S. This place is about par with other ice cream shops. Price is about normal. I think their candies and Carmel corn are really over priced. Prices are absurd if you're lucky enough to get in and/or willing to wait in the long lines. We felt lucky that the line was only a few people deep which is rare in the summer. My 10yo daughter wanted a caramel apple ($9.99) and I got a single scoop of vanilla with hot fudge. The hot fudge was basically a tiny pathetic drizzle for a $1.90 up charge! Being that it is located in the busy part of South Heaven, Michigan it is tourist trap central. For a small scoop of ice cream it's about $6, no cone, just the ice cream. The piece of fudge (chocolate with nuts) I posted a picture of was close to $10. The picture of the maple one is missing some parts, don't judge me. It is a small store with couple tables inside, and two benches you can sit on outside. They have a separate line for ordering ice cream, and another one for fudge, and other treats. No problem. Got my ice cream, but when I wanted pay for it, and get fudge I was told that they accept payment at the same register. Great. The young lady than told me that she didn't know how to process both on one register, and if I could please stand in another line. Did just that, and since I was on a short vacation it didn't kill me to wait the extra 15 minutes. In general the treats tasted good, store was clean, but wouldn't hurt to be a bit more organized. I can't complain about taste of the ice cream, but really? $25 for a small bag of caramel corn ($15) and a single waffle cone ($10) . I don't think we're cheap people. Worst service I've ever had and I've been a customer of kilwins for years. Waited in line for 20 mins to order ice cream and fudge. Only one worker approached after we waited at counter she served ice cream then forwarded us to different register for fudge. No one ever can after I waited another 10 minutes at that register. We frequently eat Sherman's ice cream at Captain Nemos (just a few stores down), and I stopped in at Kilwins to compare. Kilwins is a much nicer looking place with chocolate and fudge options as well. I was going to place an ice cream order for my entire party there, but when I saw how small the double scoop was in comparison to Nemos, I stopped to ask the price. Not only was the portion smaller, but the price was a lot more expensive. Suddenly I realized just how messy the girl liked who was helping me--it looked as if she were wearing a quart of various flavors. That's pretty much where it ended. I left with my overly priced scoop of salted caramel and went to Nemos to get the rest of the ice cream. As for taste, all the ice cream was great that night, but it hurt a little to know that I could have had more for less money. read more
