    Fruit selection

Cute little market in convenient location on the way to/from Fennville. Sampled some delish watermelon that I wish I would have bought, decent selection of fruit & veggies. Surprisingly big alcohol selection, too. Friendly service.

We've been coming here for years and they always have lots of great local produce in an open air market (which feels particularly safe and comfortable for pandemic shopping). We grabbed some fresh Michigan corn, plums, pears, and cherries in our last visit. Prices were really reasonable and it's nice to find a bunch of local produce under one roof (vs. traveling from farm stand to farm stand looking for particular items). They take card and have lots of safety precautions in place. We're still enjoying our bounty a week later!

This is a cute farm market by where we stayed in saugatuck. They had produce, plants, wind &beer, and most importantly very delicious ice cream. Got the turtle sundae was very good! And a Jade plant :)

Lyon's Farm Market open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. from early May through the Fall.

And it was fine! Better than fine because the blueberries were so good! I had no complaints. But now they've leveled up. Now it's not just good blueberries but good ambiance as well! They've converted another smaller building next to it as a storefront and it's chock full of blueberry based goodies like jams, jellies, baked goods, dips, mustards, beverages, etc. Way more to choose from! They also sell ice cream and added a play structure to help entertain the kiddos that get a little bored of picking (smart). The day of our visit it was around 100 degrees and humid so I was not up for picking myself. Instead I arrived ready to buy a box of pre-picked fruit in bulk like I had in the past. I walked into the cute new storefront, scanned the shelves, and panicked. There were no boxed berries to be seen! Was this no longer a thing?? U-pick only?? Why God why!? No need to panic, the really lovely woman at the counter explained to me. They just ran out because nobody wanted to pick in the heat (fair) and they had another load of blewbs (just processed and boxed) enroute and arriving at any moment, she just wasn't sure when exactly. Our time in town was limited so we decided we'd come back instead of waiting. She assured me there would be plenty available. And she was right! A couple of hours later we came back to find the coolers absolutely stocked full of 5lb boxes. I was fielding requests from the family back home to bring them some so in the end I bought 20 pounds worth. I also added a blueberry lemon coffee cake for good measure. Great visit! Wonderful changes! Lovely personnelle! And most importantly, the blueberries are still amazing. Next time I just hope it's cooler so I can get an ice cream cone that wasn't going to liquify the moment I stepped outside.

Most of my team are native Michiganders, and yet each learned so much new information about the delightful gems that wait for you in Saugatuck. Was concerned that things might not go so well when we arrived in the middle of a fierce thunderstorm, with tornado warnings. No worries, David had plenty of umbrellas and timed our initial departure between the waves of the storm. We were in Bill's spice house when the weather opened up again, but could have spent the whole day there as Bill shared his fresh and wonderful applications of spice and tea blends. Each location on the walk was a wonderful experience, but ending at Grow, a fairly new all natural restaurant was a wonderful way to end the visit. We enjoyed homemade pancakes and the Grow owner also provided an alternative dish for one of our team who has celiac disease. Happy to say that a number of the team went back to Grow for a late lunch at the conclusion of the visit. Can't say enough wonderful things about David. He is charming, knowledgeable and kept us moving without making us feel rushed. He clearly loves what he does and we can't wait to come back next year to do his tour of local farms that provide their produce, etc to the local Saugatuck restaurants.

But, the awesome thing about this small store is that you can taste anything you want before you buy it. So you know you're getting something you are totally crazy about and there's no risk of ending up with oil that's too heavy or too garlicky or whatever. They also have a huge selection of balsamic vinegars which you can taste as well. I recommend starting with the oil and then working your way to the other side of the store since the basalmics can be a tad overwhelming. (I had to ask the lady that works there for a glass of water because after a few tastes I couldn't distinguish one from other). I ended up buying the Tuscan herb olive oil (a fabulous mix of oregano, garlic and basil) as well as the walnut oil which I think will go great with any of the fruitier flavored vinegars for a salad dressing. Other winners were the Porcini Extra Virgin (the salesperson says it is made in Italy by a family that has some secret way of steeping porcini mushrooms in EVOO so no extracts are used) and the Blood Orange EVOO which I imagine would be great on fish or in a salad dressing.
