I love my new fence.

Best customer service ever. And a solid fence. If you're looking for an iron fence, this is your company.!!!

Our beautiful new gate!

We absolutely love our new gate and it's built really solid. We opted to buy our own Baldwin lever handle and deadbolt from Home Depot, then had the paint color of the gate matched to it. It came out beautifully! I highly recommended these guys!

I have used Kim's several times throughout the years. They have installed a banister up my staircase, hand rails in the bathrooms,in the shower, and up and down the front and back yard steps. Recently I had them install a gate for my front porch. They are always professional and on time. The pricing is fair and the end product always looks perfect.

Lick mechanism not properly prepped for paint.

I really hate writing bad reviews but sometimes people's behavior towards paying customers should be noted. I spoke to Brian Min to come out and give estimate for installing three new type hinges on three of my existing gates and metalize/paint. He quoted me about $4k and I don't argue with the price since he seemed like he knew what he's was talking about. He said it would take a few weeks and I agreed to that as well. I had told him I'm remodeling my house and am going to need a lot more iron work done after he finishes this job. I showed him the other work that I will need which includes a entire new stair rail and patio railing and he said he could do all that work as well. I'm guessing all the new work would be about a $30k job. Keep in mind I didn't argue with him about the price on refurbishing my artistic gates Once his workers came to reinstall my new gates the locks didn't work anymore I couldn't get the keys in. I actually tried helping his workers unclog the key holes with wd40 and took apart and put back in. No luck in fixing. They didn't cover the keyholes when they sandblasted the gates and got grit in the keyholes. I called Brian and his immediate response was it was my fault since his guys are professionals and they wouldn't do something like that. I told him his workers saw all the grit coming out and he kept insisting it wasn't their fault. I told him him I'm going to call a locksmith to come the next day to redo my locks and his response was he will pay half of the cost without even knowing how little it maybe. Now mind you I told him he had more work coming from me but this was his attitude. I laughed at him and told him I don't need his money and just won't use him again. He kept trying to argue I. The phone and begged for me to call him after I get the locks fixed. Why in the hell would I waste my time calling him when he was more worried about the cost of fixing locks and not standing by his work. I DONT get peoples mindset. Keep a good paying customer for a large job or take the time to investigate and make things right over a trivial manner. I got the locks fixed the following week for $300 and the locksmith said the locks were completely jammed with grit. Stay away from them if you don't like dealing with penny pinchers and bad customer service. Btw I'm attaching some pictures of their "Professional Work" that Brian claimed. As you can see this is how they protected the locks and key holes.

I called in to set an appointment and was told to meet in person. I drove out there and they were closed! All gates locked and they had a neglected German Shepard outside in 96 degree weather with no access to food or water! Poor baby! This place has a fence within the fence! Absolutely no reason to have this poor dog out in 96 DEGREE WEATHER securing your little iron! It's 2021, use cameras and/or a security system! NOT ABUSE ANIMALS IN 96 DEGREE HEAT!

Repainted long wrought iron fence.

We had corrosion with a small break in our backyard wrought iron fence, which is about 75 ft long. Mike came out to do a free estimate over the weekend, even though he wasn't feeling well after receiving his COVID-19 vaccine. Mike knows his stuff. He was thorough and took the time to draw out a diagram of what needed be done. He gave us a very reasonable written estimate on the spot, describing all the steps he'd take to restore the fence to a "like new" condition. After getting two other quotes, which were nearly twice as much, we hired Mike to do the job and it was outstanding. Highly recommended!

Safety security and clean lines!! Perfect.

Drove by saw the Iron yard on Orangethorpe, went in looked at samples and saw lots of photos. Not sure of what we're wanted,it was our first purchase of an iron gate. All we knew is that we wanted something different, unique to us,and not crazy expensive. John made time to come by our home. We chatted about what we wanted. Later we went back to the office,John penciled up a drawing, quickly, professionally and it was perfect. Couple weeks later, team came out and installed gate...looks great, security for me and my family helps us sleep better! Thank you.

Job well done! Would recommend! We are going to use Kim Iron Works again in the future to finish our gate!

Update 3: Now I'm some secretly disrespectful person (first I'm hearing of my alleged bad behavior)…read morewho plotted all along to take screenshots of our communications (that live in text threads) for deceitful purposes. Please stop updating your responses to change the story and accuse me of some new bad behavior. The texts are our communications, I didn't call you and "press you". There are no other communications. They also speak for themselves. Adding a screenshot of your prior edited comment. Update 2: Last update and lowered my rating from a 2 to a 1 star to reflect the now edited response that no longer says I "haggled" for a faster time and suggests for the first time that the glass didn't break "on its own". So I'm adding a picture of the glass, and another text screenshot where Mike refers to spontaneous breakage and asking the glass company if it's under warranty. Not sure why he's ask them if it was under warranty if it didn't break on its own. Update: I am not surprised that Mike responded. I never "haggled" to get it done sooner. If I had, I'd be pretty bad at haggling for it to take 3.5 months for it to not get done. But as I said, I have receipts. I would not recommend working with Hicks. I have had a series of issues, but held off on a critical review since he would previously try to resolve the issues. I hired Hicks to install a patio railing. The work was done fairly quickly, but after less than a year, one of the cables had fallen off. Hicks came back and repaired it without additional cost, which I appreciated. Next I had Hicks install a glass and wood balcony. I wasn't happy with the quality of the work or the state of the job site, and again Hicks apologized and came back to make it better and clean up the mess. He was at times defensive, but again, I appreciated him fixing the errors. Less than a year after the balcony was installed, a glass panel shattered. There was no impact or area of impact, suggesting it was from a glass manufacturing defect. He told me the warranty on the glass he used was only for 6 months from installation (even for defective glass), so I'd need to pay for a new sheet of glass, but he would install it without additional charge. The glass shattered in mid October. It's now February. Hicks' communication has been really challenging. I pushed and pushed to get it installed and it took months to even get scheduled. On January 9th, the day he was supposed to arrive to install, he didn't show at the agreed upon time, and only later responded after I had reached out about him being a no-show to let me know that strong wind had blown over the replacement glass and it broke. I was very frustrated because this was January and he had initially told me it would be a few weeks to get the glass replaced (which would have been November). Had it been installed in an even remotely timely manner, it wouldn't have blown over and broken. So I asked when the new glass would arrive, he said about a week. I asked him if he could please schedule me for a couple weeks out so we have something scheduled and I wouldn't have to wait months again. He said yes, but didn't actually schedule me. I started messaging a couple times a week with no response - again, said the new glass should be arrive in about a week on January 9th. Yesterday I messaged saying I needed an update, and he told me the whole thing was too stressful and he's not doing it anymore. So I waited 3.5 months for him to replace defective glass that he had offered to replace (with me paying the cost of the glass), and then he just decided he's not going to do it. I was patient and incredibly reasonable through all of these issues, but the defensiveness and failure to communicate and follow through isn't professional. I have receipts for all of these communications.

It's been over a year now since my initial install and I want to 1) update on the quality of the…read moreproduct, and 2) update on the service the Hicks team has provided. First off: we love our custom door, it continues to be a highlight of our home (super important making a great impression as people enter). It swings easily and is super stable. Recently the bolt holding the door frame to the wall came loose (likely from a mix of daily use and our shifting soils here in San Clemente). Not entirely surprising that there'd be some "settling in" given that it's a fairly massive completely custom door - but still, it had been over a year since the Hicks team finished the job. I emailed and asked: is this sort of thing covered? Well... Myke came out personally and spent the better part of two hours fixing the issue - not only thoroughly reinforcing the door frame but also upgrading the other side of the frame with a new customer stopper to increase security but also improve the operation of the door. It's been almost 18 months since install and Myke came out free of charge. Went well above and beyond and shook my hand and wished me well. If you think "good people doing good work" is hard to find... I hope you find this review, and give Myke Hicks a call.
