Definitely your run of the mill nail shop. The owner, Kim, sits in the front right station and greets all the incoming customers, even while she has a client. Friendly nail techs and very efficient in my experience. I don't go as often as I would like so I upgrade my pedi to the deluxe one that comes with an added bath bomb in the foot spa, scented sea salt scrub and the same scented lotion. On average, my gel manicure and regular pedicure take about an hour to an hour and 15 minutes. And don't forget to bring cash! read more

Very friendly. Clean environment. Very pleased with my french manicure and silk pedicure.

The salon needs a deep cleaning. The nail stations are encrusted with dust and plexi glass just have to go, windows washed. They are filthy. Bathroom looks like what you would expect at a gas station, dirty and disgusting. You ask a nail technician for the color I picked out and they turn around to paint the color they will convince you is better. Who is paying? Plus the nail polishes are old and crusty. Replace your old polishes!!!! Also, the ventilation is horrible. The fumes of all the chemicals is so strong, I would not be surprised if you walk out high or dizzy from it. No child should be in there. I would not recommend this establishment. Please consider closing on two of your slowest days and clean the place. You charge too much and expect a tip. Worst full set ive ever got. I came here thinking they were going to do good work. I asked the lady for a full set and to me looks like a toddler did it. I walked out almost crying the nails were super thick, the french tip was uneven, glitter was messy and the my nails were different sizes. I told the lady to fix it multiple times and each time it just came out worse. I was trying to be so patient with this lady and to not be rude. I usually never make bad reviews. I payed full price just to go elsewhere and pay full price again. The nails were curved and had horrible coffin shape. I walk-in to Kim salon yesterday with my daughter, since i periodically come over for my eyebrows. I'ts the place i choose when my daughter ask me for shaping her eyebrows . The Lady who did it was pleasant, but we had a bad skin break out, both me and my daughter end up getting lots of rashes right away and even 24 hours after the eyebrow waxing. It was not the case when i did it over there before. I observe that they don't practice with proper hand hygiene, when we got in we were led to the room with the lady, we didn't even see her washing her hands prior to doing waxing, and ladies here does manicure and pedicure. The wax and the stuff that they use as well could be sitting there for long period of time and has been contaminated with bacteria. Result on our skin was not Good. I have not visited Kim's Salon & Spa for over a year. I was in the area and needed to remove my acrylic nails to receive a basic manicure and pedicure. If you choose to visit the parking lot of doom during lunch hours, you will most likely be taking a small walk through the plaza. As I walked into the establishment, I was pleased with the condition of the Salon. It was neat and overall clean. They carry all up to date nail products and polishes for all ages. The color swatches were new and updated. I was greeted by an older woman and asked what services I wanted. Escorted to the back of the salon, i was greeted by Peter (nail technician). He is an older gentleman who requires patience. The best part is the foot massage, Peters hands are magic and the warm towel wrap. My only critiques that I would have were the pedicure chairs looked a little run down but those chairs are expensive to replace. The pedicure cart made me a little nervous because of the random products. I would suggest organizing it with a pedicure menu, products only pertaining to pedicure use. Peter made my nails a tad bit uneven to where I might have to file again. I spent $50.00 in total. read more

Ran into this place while getting Senorita bread for work. Asked if I can come back later after work for them to take off the gel manicure horribly done at another Nail Salon called Julie's Nails, DO NOT go there, the service and poor and I was so disappointed. See my review for them and you will see how terrible the job was on my nails. Anyway, this place, Kim Salon and Spa did an amazing job. They cleaned off the horrible gel for $7 and made my nails all pretty again. Within the week, Hubby needed a manicure, I needed a pedicure, and the baby wanted both mani/pedi so I figured let's see how their pedi's are...so, we booked appointments. I also yelped their business and found a lot of good reviews. When I went in for the 2nd time, they are very courteous, they chat with you, not too much to where you're like they're all in your business but the usual. As Mindy did my pedicure, I asked if she can put a design on my nail, keep in mind my nails are bare with no color bc I wanted to keep them clean looking, Mindy said no problem, I'll do it for you after we're done with the pedicure. Hubby's manicure was done first and he was surprisingly happy with it which is unusual bc there hasn't been a place that was amazing since Oakland. He had nothing but positiveness for the manicure he received. The lady was gentle, didn't make him bleed like some do, he said she wasn't all forceful with the tools or jamb his cuticles, he liked that she took her time, wasn't rushing, like that she filed, buffed, shine, and extra cleaned his nails. The only thing he said could be better was that the lady could use more pressure when giving massages bc it was just very light. I said my lady, Mindy was great with the massage, she had nice big and strong hands, my leg massage was good. Mindy gave me a great pedicure. The sugar scrub, lotion massage, and hot stone massage was good. The best part was the design Mindy did for me. I highly recommend Mindy. In the past 5 years, I have traveled to Oakland bc my manicurist is there, that's my hometown. The salon is called Posh Polish. My manicurists name is Quyen and trust me when I say her job is perfection. And, I never use that word for anyone unless they've earned it. I am a very picky person, if you're not a perfectionist at what you do, I will move on until I find one. I am and will continue to commute to Oakland for all my usual perfect gel mani and parafin pedi at Posh Polish but if I need a quickie for family day and we're not traveling out of town towards Oakland then we will definitely be going to Kim's as our local spot. Since moving into town 2.5 years ago my husband has been telling me I need to find a local Salon and not drive to Oakland. I have been yelping and going to the local highly rated Salons but none have been good enough (Julie's Nails in Pinole is highly rated but the job sucks). Glad I found Kim's. I didn't find Kim's on yelp when I tried to view their reviews. I had to Google the shop and then click on the yelp link...like when I input Kim Salon & Spa into yelp their shop doesn't come up...that's why I've never discovered them. Don't get me wrong, if I'm with my girlfriends or myself, I will be going to Oakland who doesn't want to go to Oakland, they have the best shops and food in Chinatown! I love this place. Just about everyone is good at what they do. If you are looking for a custom design then Jennifer is the one to go to for nail art. I have tried others in the area and found that they don't give you the extra service they do here. Their massages are top rated!! Scrub, lotion, hot stones, and hot cloth for the same price everyone else is charging for less service. Their massages aren't short and sweet. Soooo great! Their pedi chairs are new and comfortable. They don't rush you along. They take great care of you and make you feel like you aren't throwing your money away. I gave them 2 chances, & both were terrible experiences. 1st time, the wrong gel polish color used so a 3rd COATof gel was used, so when my nails started growing out, it was this appalling lift of the get polish and not a smooth grow-out. 2nd (and final) chance, the lady filed down so low with the drill, it drilled through to my own nail bed!! She also did not put enough acrylic on my nail for the fill. When I asked her about it, she said it would be fine. My nail color did not turn out the way I thought it would, when I talked to Kim about it, she would not help me right then and told me I would have to come BACK in 6 hours!! (I'm furious just typing this, but guess what??) I went to a different nail salon right across the way and paid to get my nails redone. Why go back to a place that did me wrong 2x already?? I requested a woman and I was told she was busy to then see her servicing someone else. They speak in their native language and look and laugh at the customers amongst each other. I would love to give this salon zero stars. I came in for a gel manicure and was rushed into a seat, since hand placed in cold water and no greeting as the man starting cutting at my dry hand that had not been soaked. He caused several hangnails, cut all my nails to the point of discomfort and left gel on almost every finger. When I asked him to remove the gel, he got USED cuticle cutters and cut the tips of my skin to remove the polish. There was nothing hygienic, friendly, relaxing or professional about this experience. This is an updated review. Initially I gave this place 1 star, but now that I know what nail techs to go to I give it 4 stars. I also chose to update my review because sometimes businesses have bad days and I wanted to give an honest review of my experiences. I made an appt w/Jennifer this time because she did a wonderful job on my gel mani in the past. She is great...very meticulous and takes her time with your hands and feet. Not that I want to chit chat while trying to relax, but she's funny too. It was raining when I got my pedi and after I left I put shoes on. Silly me!! I noticed 2 toes were smudged when I took my shoes off. I went back (about 2 hours later) and Jennifer fixed them for me with no problem. She made a joke saying I missed her which is why I came back...lol. If you visit this nail salon, choose Jennifer or Mindy you will not be disappointed. read more

I've been back twice since that visit and I'm starting to think that the first visit just happened to be a lucky one. It's about 2 minutes from my house. I am pretty picky about where I choose to get my nails done and I've always been happy with the job I get done at Kim's. I have gone here more than 10 times and have been happy every time. They have several types of manicures and pedicures and I am a huge fan of the papaya pedicure. They put these things in the spa basin which turn into bubbles! HELLA bubbles! And then they use a papaya body salt scrub and massage you with that for a good 5-10 minutes, then they get the papaya lotion and massage you with that 5-10 minutes. The paint jobs are great as well and I am always happy with the designs I pick. The spa chair has a massage back and the basin is guaranteed to be clean! (I've seen them clean it thoroughly with my own eyes) I'm very pick when it comes to sanitation. I have also been near the back of the shop and have seen where they clean the cutting tools and such. Those tools are clean! I have also gotten manicures here and I have been satisfied with them as well. Again they do all thre regular stuff but if you get a papaya manicure than you get a massage with the papaya body salt scrub on your hands and arms, and same thing with the papaya lotion. I also get my eyebrows waxed here and they do a fabulous job! Prices can get a little high depending upon how much you decide to get (regular pedicure vs. papaya pedicure, designs vs no design, Etc) But I think it's worth every penny. I only go here when I don't have the time to go to Tammy's in Pinole. The service is decent the ladies are always kind. It's just too expensive for the service they provide in my opinion. I filled the acrylic set I got at tammys here and told the lady for an almond shape and she gave me a rounded tip. I was also charged $20 for a fill which I was not expecting especially since I dipped on the gel polish. $20 would've gotten me a full set at tammy's. Was in town and needed a pedicure, Kim's was down the street so I decided to try it. Small clean space, I walked in and they were able to see me right away. All the patrons there were regulars and it seems the staff and them get along very well. The lady that did my pedicure really scrubbed my feet, a little too hard for me, she gave a great foot massage, hot stones and sea salt rub. There were not a lot of choices for nail color which was a downer. They gave me some disposable flip flops to use and didn't charge me more, checked on me to make sure the polish completely dried before I left. The price was standard for pedicures anywhere. Alright..so I'm torn with this review. I'll start by saying that I will be giving this place another chance at some point, but I will be much more careful with my timing. I called on a Friday morning around 10 and asked if they had time for a gel manicure between 2 and 3. The lady on the phone was super nice and asked me to come in at 2p. I got to the shop at 1:50 and told them that I had a 2pm appointment, there were several people waiting and they told me to pick a color. I was told to sit down in a chair around 2:10 and wasn't seen by anyone until 2:40, the lady was nice and apologized and did the foil wrap to take off my current gel polish. She told me she would be back in just a minute - and didn't return for another half an hour. At this point it's too late to go anywhere else and I was really annoyed. She finally came back and thanked me for waiting and then told me that I should make an appointment next time. When I told her I had a 2pm appointment she said "oh" then proceeded to tell me that sometimes they run late because people need special or extra attention and that it happens especially on the weekends. Alright.. She was nice enough and tried two colors on my nails to find the one that looked the best. The manicure was good (I was there to get a 5 day old mani fixed) so overall I liked my nails. I won't be coming back on a weekend, so hopefully I'll have better luck with the timing of it all. 4 Star mani - 1 star for the wait. I've come here to get my nails done a couple times and every time I was NOT happy. The last time I came I got seashell acrylic and it was really UGLY. I tipped her 1dollar. I usually tip at least 10. She was pregnant, rude, and not very talkative. She did the worst job ever, and she made my nails really thick, even after i told her numerous times I wanted them not so thin!! She kept telling me she was going to file them down, and at the end they were still thick!! I said something and she said it was too late, b/c she already put the gel on!! F*****B****!! I usually get my mani-pedi here at least once a month as a treat to myself. They do a light massage of the calves and arms but if you want longer you can pay $1 a minute more. You can also add a special scented theme for an up-charge which is worth the extra pampering. I went to Kims salon on a Thursday before I left for a 4 day trip and by one day the gel has come off, the shape was uneven and extremely bumpy. I went into get it corrected and went my way. 2 days into my fresh acrylic set the gel color had peeled completely leaving nothing but the acrylic and the sides were all lifting on each nail. Coming back into town Kim was able to reshape and reapply another set of gel color however she did not apply any additional acrylic to correct that lifting parts of my set and painted over the missing parts. Currently two days after Kim "fixing" my nails I had to get them redone by someone else who let me know this work was done lazily and done with no care. I have gotten my nails done for years and I know how long my nails should last (2/3 weeks) but it hasn't even been a complete week and there's so many problems. Please save yourself time and spend money elsewhere. read more

It's hard to find a place that you like to go back to regularly and in the suburbs it is harder still to find that place that is affordable too! Well I am lucky to have found Kim's for my manicures and pedicures and doubly excited it's in Hercules where I live. I have gone now more than 15 times and am always happy with the service when I leave. I especially like the scrub when you get a pedicure and for only $25 for a regular pedicure which is a steal outside of San Francisco! What's more the staff are always friendly and accomodating! read more

First off they didn't get to her untill 1230 and forgot about me and forgot about her manicure. I decided to not get my nails done and just treat my grandmother because it was her birthday.
