I was excited to visit Kimpo for their kimbop since I had seen online that they make it fresh. When we arrived they were already sold out and only had the imported frozen options, which were limited. We were told they make their fresh kimbop on Tuesdays and Fridays, so if that is the main reason for your visit it is worth planning around those days. I watch a lot of Korean shows, so when I saw Kopiko coffee candy I had to grab some. It is tasty and has a nice coffee flavor. From what I read online it has about 25 mg of caffeine per piece. Since I came for kimbop, I picked up the imported spicy tuna variety. It comes with three larger pieces. I haven't tried it yet, but it looks good. The shop is small, but I think I will enjoy it more once I get to try their fresh kimbop and other in house items. As far as snack variety goes, I wasn't too excited, but I'm looking forward to coming back on a day when the fresh items are available. Service was fast and efficient. read more

Great little neighborhood market that has all the Asian cooking essentials like rice, noodles, sauces, and seasoning. Yes it's cheaper at Lee Lee but I don't feel like driving 20 minutes just buy a few items. It has a good variety of snacks, candies, and Korean booze too. The small "deli" section has house made kimchi and banchan (the side dishes like seaweed salad, pickled veggies, tofu). I finally tried the cucumber kimchi and it's full of flavor. I find that these small Asian markets are way better than going to the gigantic Lee Lee International Market. My needs are pretty limited. Most of my grocery needs are for Japanese cooking. I really do not enjoy hiking all over kingdom come to find what I need at the Lee Lee warehouse. I find it more efficient and less tiring to find everything I need in just four short aisles. Lee Lee's is a very interesting and comprehensive place and makes for a very interesting field trip just to see what they have and all the interesting things that you never knew even existed. However, for your essentials, nothing beats a small mom and pop store like Kimpo Market. Kimpo Market has everything I need and want. The Korean gentleman that owns the store is friendly. I have found that his prices on many items, like rice and shōyu (soy sauce) is significantly cheaper than at Sandyi or Lee Lee's. I have been shopping here for years and it is my go-to store for my Asian grocery shopping. 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Tucson-top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. I might do repeat business if it is convenient, the only option, the only one in its category, or on a whim, but would not be among the first thing to come to mind. Kimpo is a nice little Korean market, it has all the necessities to create some great Korean dishes and they even carry some nice Korean knick-knacks. Although some might see this place as "run down" it truly just feels like any Korean store I've been to.. a little rough around the edges, some obvious overstock, and a bit of a confusing layout, but all in all exactly what I was looking for. So if you're looking for ingredients to make some Korean comfort foods, or just trying to buy a few pickled side dishes, this is your place. This is my only solace for getting Korean food in Tucson! Even though there aren't too many Koreans to keep the inventory turning, the owner does a good job of keeping things in stock. The downside is that you should always read the expiration date on stuff, just let the owner know and he will exchange it for you. He is a great guy to talk to and get recommendations from. The store can close a little early (5-10 minutes) at times, so don't cut it to the last second. read more

Went looking for lumpia wraps and stumbled across Kimpo. This place is a hidden gem! Not only did I find lumpia wraps but I also found a decent variety of Asian snacks, homemade kimchee necessities and other Asian cooking staples. I've visited a few more times since. It's a small store (definitely not Lee Lee's) but it's much closer to where I live so I frequent it often. If you're looking for something specific, call ahead and ask. I've done that a few times and the staff is always helpful. If you're just curious, give it a try--Kimpo is definitely worth the visit. read more

What a gem! Two of my friends taught in Korea for a few years and got me hooked on many of the great food offerings Korea has to offer. From what I can tell, the food here is mostly Korean. They have a variety of different foods, even some things you likely won't find at a supermarket, such as squid, seaweed (in various forms), and different types of noodles. They have frozen, refrigerated, canned, dried, and basically every food offering imaginable. There were some Asian drinks, but you can also pick up a few American things while there. I tried a Korean cider that was delicious, and this is the best place to find a 6 pack. They also have cutlery, cookware, bowls, and a variety of kitchen tools at great prices. There was even a moving Lucky Cat you could buy. I picked up several different face and foot masks to try (most of them for a few dollars). It's small but has a variety of foods to try. If you have a hankering for homemade Korean BBQ or some kimchi, this is the place to go! read more

This place sells expired items and frostbitten frozen items. I usually don't give much thought about food safety, but it's bit concerning with this place. I bought kimchi, tasting stale and film-sy with biofilm, I bought expired tofu that has been way past date indicated, frozen dumplings, that are impossible to separate without breaking them apart completely(also expored), refrigerator items are mostly risky. Only thing I will buy from this place is prepackaged items like ramen and curry. read more

I frequent this store as often as I can. I always intend to buy a couple things and end up buying way too much. The owners and their son are hands on when it comes to helping you find what you need. I adore pork belly & bulgogi, and they have delicious high quality meats there. I also have to say their homemade cucumber kimchi is to die for. Basically the best spicy pickles ever. I'm also addicted to their desserts and drinks. Honeydew melon ice milk bars, mochi, fish bread, banana milk(other flavors too), makeolli, soju (wine not liquor-many flavors too), korean beers & all kinds of sake from inexpensive to high end. I've been there many times and I always find new things when I go. They have dinnerware & cookware & beauty products. I am addicted to the korean face sheet masks that are so lovely and moisturizing (and super inexpensive 11 for 10$) Tomorrow will be my first Friday to get their homemade kimbap. Can't wait! As far as prices go I find all Korean/Asian stores to be similar across the board so I find very few surprises as far as that goes, but I will say a little goes a long way at Kimpo Market.
