My boyfriend and I stayed here for a single night stay (Sunday to Monday) just yesterday. The staff is extremely helpful and polite. The setup and decor are pretty artsy/trendy, so I particularly enjoyed it. Our bathroom was amazing - A spacious tub and a stand up shower, with some awesome aromatherapy toiletries supplied in the shower. Relaxing was such a breeze in this hotel. They even offer free wi-fi and plenty of cable TV channels, including several HBO movie channels. We ordered room service for breakfast and the food was delicious - A tad overpriced, but we left the hotel on full tummies, so can't complain! This hotel is also pet-friendly. Check in is 3pm and we arrived at 1:30pm, they let us check in early without a problem. Checkout is 12pm and our bus didn't depart until 7:30pm because we still needed the entire day to check out some more sites/museums, the hotel happily held our bags for us while we further explored what DC had to offer. Very helpful and appreciated! My only complaints about this place are: 1. Our room was FREEZING and there's no way to control the temperature! Although, I guess it's better than being too hot/stuffy. 2. The area is pretty bland. We were starving around 9pm and there was absolutely nothing to eat in a walking distance... Being from NYC, that was a real shock/disappointment... But it IS walking distance (decent at least) from the start of the museums, so that was a plus. I recommend this hotel, our stay was quite lovely for the most part. read more

Excellent boutique hotel in DC. Near everything. Service was excellent, from the restaurant sending post closing time room service to the concierge making excellent suggestions, to the front door staff who got me a limo and retrieved my laptop bag when I accidentally left it at the desk. My only minor complaint was that you need more drawer space for two people. Otherwise fantastic. Definitely stay there again. read more

What hit me about our stay over a long weekend was the hotel's dedication to customer service. It's evident when you check in, order from room service or dine in their restaurant that they are trying to anticipate your needs and get there first. Rooms are not opulent but entirely adequate and offer mini bars and wifi ( free if you join their affinity program). You will also pay less than the going rate for your room. Great hotel! Check in was fast. Offered us complimentary wine even tho we missed the free wine hour. Kiddo got to dig thru a treasure chest of toys to choose one to keep. Room 815 was huge for dc standards and for the price. Service was impeccable. Did not give 5 just bc the physical layout of the common areas in the hotel are small and it just cannot compare with some of the other kimpton options. read more

Yesterday I stayed at The George; I've also stayed at the Palomar in DC. This group really aims to please the guests. The decor is always quirky and cozy, and the staff seems to love their work. My last trip to Vegas as the opposite. The staff seemed embarassed to be there. I'm happy that I ended my travels with the George and will make Kimpton Hotels a top priority. read more

This hotel has good location near the Capitol, but the street it is situated on felt a bit sketch. I was comfortable walking around during the day, but not after dusk. The room was good, but not great due to a weird air-vent that felt like a wind tunnel running through the room! The choices were blistering hot, or being cooled off by the jet-stream. The staff were fantastic, cheerful and super helpful! I would stay here again, but only if I wanted to be walking distance from the Capitol. read more

I was pretty disappointed with this hotel considering the cost. It was in the heart of DC, but also in a kind of sketchy neighborhood so if you were walking you had to pass a plethora of homeless people to get to your hotel. The hotel restaurant was extraordinarily overpriced and the food was just OK. The bartender in the evening was nice. The rooms were OK, but nothing grand considering the cost. I am visiting Washington DC for an event held at a hotel just down the street. I had a room at the "host" hotel but found The George through a friend! What a superb hotel, from the Doorman, Guest Services to Bistro Biz this Hotel is outstanding! My 1st morning the Keurig coffee maker was not working correctly. I called Guest Services and within a few minutes I had a pot of coffee from Room Service & the Houseman changed out the defective coffee maker.......all taken care of within 15 minutes! Hotel George was a great deal. Went down to DC with my guy to see the museums, and the location was perfect! Walkable to 6th/7th St for dinner/shopping, but also to the museums. You're literally steps away from the Capitol and the mall. The best part was being able to go out, walk around, then come back to lounge for an hour or two (so much walking in DC!), and then head out again for dinner. Most hotels, even Dupont Circle, are probably too far away to do this as easily/quickly. I loved the room. It made really good use of space and was impeccably designed. Best boutique hotel we found, and we got a great weekend rate via Kimpton InTouch. Definitely join that before your stay, you'll get free wifi and a mini-bar credit. read more

This was my first time in our nation's capital and I chose this hotel since it was close to union station which was important to me since I was traveling here by train. This hotel exceeded my expectations. The staff was friendly, the room was clean and spacious, and with $1 more per day we got a $30 breakfast credit per day to the Bistro Bis which is the restaurant right downstairs. This hotel is also close to the capitol, and the US BotanicGarden and the National Mall are also walking distance away. I recommend this hotel for anyone who is traveling to Washington, D.C. read more

We stayed at the George for a weekend to visit a friend. The bed was deliciously comfortable, the bathroom immaculate, the folks at the desk pleasant without being sappy. We drove down from Philly on a Friday night, and the desk clerk told us we could have valet parking for $40/night (!), but he also advised us that we could park in the garage across the street for half that OR--better yet--park on the street for free. There were plenty of street spaces right across the street from the hotel and that's what we did. No problems. We grabbed excellent burgers at Bistro Bis's bar that night. That's the restaurant right off the lobby. The shower--no tub--has plenty of room, lots of hot water, and they provide big plushy animal print robes (does "George" refer to George of the Jungle??). I can't speak to room service--we didn't use it. But all the staff we encountered were pleasant and helpful. It's a block or two from Union Station (and the Metro); there's a Starbucks a block away, and a convenience store within a block. We got a nice room with a king bed for $125/night. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat. read more

I travel from NY to DC by train several times per year. I Have stayed at the hotel before. The hotel is decent, but the location is great. It in walking distance to Union Station, Starbucks and lots of attractions. However, you cannot count on a room being available for you -- even if you guarantee your reservation for late arrival. I was left without a room after they over sold the hotel. So when I arrived they told me I could stay at some unfamiliar hotel on the other side of the city, which would require me to cab it every where I went instead of walking. I ended up staying with a co worker. If they'll treat a repeat customer like this, how will they treat you? read more

The staff is very nice, welcoming and accommodating. The rooms are spacious and roomy. Located near Union Station, Pennsylvania Avenue and the Capital building this hotel is a great launching pad to explore the city! Shame was that everything was closed due to the government shut down. While I was told at check in that I would get a great view from my room, I quickly discovered that the view is that of an office building which made me chuckle. The rooms were a little dated and were well used but I was ok with it- I just wore my sandals everywhere. You can feel the springs in the mattress which is a shame. The rooms could use a good cleaning too, the tub had strange marks and windows were quite dusty. Could never figure out the thermostat but oh well- only got annoying in the middle of the night because of how loud it was. Read online and sounds like they are coming up on a round of renovations so maybe better to wait until it is done before coming for a visit. read more

I love Kimpton Hotels and the Hotel George is no exception. Everyone on staff was helpful and friendly. The lobby even smelled great- like a spa candle. I was greeted with a glass of wine before I even checked in, and as a rewards member, I also got free wi-fi and a $10 credit to the mini-bar. I really liked the decor (with cute details like throw pillows inspired by George Washington's military uniform), and the room was very comfortable. Plus there was a yoga mat in the closet, which was great for stretching after traveling all day. I had a meal at the bar downstairs, where the service was attentive and the food very tasty. Recommend for business or leisure travel. A great experience- wish I could have stayed more than one night! read more

Stayed here for a long weekend in March (3/20-3/22). Have no real complaints about the room. The room is a bit small. Most hotel rooms I have stayed in have some sort of seating area that is slightly separate from the bed. With everything in this room, it just felt cramped. You have a desk, chair, leg rest and bed all squashed together. Perfect for what we were staying for, but if you are here for a week or more, you may want to upgrade to a King. Couple key things to know when staying here. Park across the street in the garage. It's ALOT cheaper than parking valet. Even the hotel recommends it. If you do valet, I believe it's $45 a day plus tip & tax. If I had used valet, I would've paid close to 100 or more. I parked in the garage and paid half that, plus I didn't have to tip. This was worth it to me since I did not move my car once parked. Also, join their rewards program. It's free and you get free WiFi. If you don't join, you have to pay. read more

Although our pleasant at The George was nice, we had a terrible experience after. Some articles of clothing were left in the room and numerous calls were made to retrieve them. 1 to housekeeping, 2 to lost and found and 1 to the hotel general manager. A message had to be left each time and a return call was never made. We contacted the Kimpton Hotel Group and received an email that someone from the hotel would contact us within 48 hours. My fiancé reserved this hotel for our week vacation in the Capitol. Checking in was a breeze. Jasmin was our front desk clerk that checked us in and she was wonderful. For the most part everyone in the front desk was great. Our room was nice and air conditioned and the room looked nice and clean. The room had ample storage and closet space, bed was nicely made, and the bathroom was lovely and fully stocked. What I really like was the happy hour they offer in the lobby between 5pm to 6pm. We joined their happy hour most nights. They have an awesome gym and they offer towels, water, and headphones loved this gym. Check out was also breeze. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the DC area! read more

I have stayed at several kimptons before and this hotel does not live up to the name nor the expectation. The hotel lobby has old outdated furniture that you do not even want to sit on. Which is also accompanied by a tv and a wi station where staff congregates and plays during their shit. I found this unprofessional and quite tacky to say the least. We stayed in the hotel for two days and the first room we were given smelled of mildew and had a toilet that would not stop running. We were moved to the room next door and we were disappointed with again the outdated furniture. The amore was a dark brown and inside it was a very light brown. Once again it was off putting and not comfortable. In the bathroom the staff neglected to clean the bath tub and there was a ring around it that was dark brown. It was disgusting. When we went down to the hotel restaurant at exactly 3:00 after the room debacle we were told they could not serve lunch because it was restaurant week and they close at 3. My friend was looking forward to having bravo in the room because she doesn't have a tv at home.. Unlike all kimptons hotels this hotel does not have the channel so she was upset and disappointed. read more

It's hard to find hotels that are dog friendly and allow BIG dogs. I was so happy to find the Kimpton chain. We own two Newfoundlands. (People say they are the biggest dogs they've ever seen) At check in we got food and water bowls and a kit with a map to the dog "potty area" which was very close. Two big treats. And a door hanger to warn any staff that there were pets in the room. All the staff that saw our dogs were very friendly. The hostesses even came running out of the hotel bar to meet them. When housekeeping was still cleaning our room when we all returned from visiting the monuments, we hung out in the lobby and enjoyed the nice orange flavored water and relaxed with the dogs for a few minutes and no one made us feel unwanted for having our dogs with us. The hotel room was nice and quiet. We were at the end of the hall. Only negetives... No fridge. There is mini bar fridge that is tiny and fully stocked already. And no microwave. We would stay in a Kimpton again and suggest it to other dog owners! P.s. Join their inTouch loyalty program on their website. I also had a great time playing the piano and sharing my music with everyone who listened. My family loved that we could get up, grab breakfast at The Corner Bakery, grab dinner or a snack at Union Station. They have a nightly wine tasting but we had kids so we didn't try it. Went to Hotel George for a weekend related to work. Good location, very good service at the front desk level but I had a subpar stay. Essentially my girlfriend used the toilet and it overflowed. When we were heading out to my work event I informed the front desk and they arranged to have it fixed and checked while we were out. They did in fact fix the toilet but left all the wet (with toilet water towels and water) on the floor. We checked out and I realized the next day I left my Sonicare electronic toothbrush in the shower (which I realize is my fault alone). I called and left a message with the lost and found stating responsibility but if they could let me know if they have found it or not. I never heard back a word. So clogged toilet, toilet water/towels left behind, and no call back. I am a fan of Klimpton and as stated the front desk people were very professional but I would not return to this particular hotel. read more

Stay at the George and you will be treated like a rock-star. I stay in a hotel close to 100 nights a year and I have NEVER been treated so well by such a hospitable staff. The place is truly one of a kind. I just wish I could take the friendly staff with me or that that they could at least show other business how customers should be treated. Rooms are very modern. What the George does right is the details. Details like knowing your favorite type of wine. I could go on and on about this place. The only negative I would have is that there was a constant smell from the pipes that never went away during our whole stay. read more

Hotel George is not in Georgetown however I Can't wait to get back here. My lady took me here for my b-day, they immediately upgraded our suite for this when we checked in. Location is great, easy walk to everything. Staff were professional, helpful, trained, and experienced. Room was spotless clean. Decore and furnishings were up to date. No noise from anywhere. The shower clear glass window overlooked the alley, not a dirty scary alley, but a red bricked cladded neighboring building, you can wave hi to the neighbors while showering to boot! read more

If Hotel George were an economy or even a mid-range property it would deserve four, or maybe even five stars for exceeding expectations. But The George, like all Kimpton hotels, is positioned as ultra-deluxe highest-of-the-high end lodging, and it falls far short of this standard. The staff is generally excellent--friendly and helpful--although I did have to wrestle my luggage up the steps on arrival. The major problem is facilities. My room was hardly larger than one might find at Microtel. The furnishings were, in a word, cheap. For instance, the desk drawer lacked the guides common on quality furniture, so it dropped down on being pulled out. Shampoo and conditioner were in wall-mounted pump dispensers in the shower. As the old joke goes the thermostat offered four settings--too hot and too cold. Setting the temperature to 72 made the room too warm for comfort; reducing it to 71 turned on AC that quickly reduced the room to the frigidity of a meat locker. A widely traveled business associate who also stayed at The George commented that he has stayed at many Kimpton properties and this is the worst. In my opinion it does not reach the standard set by its cross town sister property, the fun, quirky Helix Hotel. read more

5 minute walk from Union Station with easy access to DCA The Kimpton George has classic style & the staff is exceptional. I was in room 614 which was clean and charming with a spacious bathroom. Free bikes are available to check out all the memorials, monuments and museums along the Washington Mall. Hotel was nice, bed was comfy and room was very clean. BUT we booked through a third party site for a double bed room, while the reservation stayed booked, it did not book us a double bed, and as I was traveling with my friend and her boyfriend this was just not convenient. Kyra at the desk explained to us when we book this way that we need to call and confirm how it booked, though it doesn't say anywhere to double check your reservation. She also offered nothing to accommodate this error since there were no other rooms available with two beds. A cot, couch, anything for a third person to sleep on would be nice. When we asked for extra linens to make a bed on the floor for my friends boyfriend, we had to ask a couple times before any were brought to us. Our reservation also stated that it covered everything, but there's hotel fees once you get there to put down as well, again not an issue but when she was going over extra charges with us, she didn't think it was important to inform us of the $60 parking fee that's also included. What a great surprise to wake up too when they slide your bill under the door. She offered unsympathetic, useless "it is what it is" when we asked why she left that out the next morning. Overall just frustrated with the experience. read more

This is an amazing hotel with a wonderfully friendly staff. Johnny at the front desk was the BEST! He greeted us warmly every time he saw us and made us feel so special. All our needs were met and our expectations HIGHLY exceeded! At Bistro Bis, the restaurant in the hotel (which is EXCELLENT by the way - try the scallops, omg), Antoinette at the hostess stand and Stephen the server made our visit(s) absolutely exceptional. We were there with our baby daughter and everyone at the hotel fussed over her and made us feel like VIPs! I actually called the hotel before we went to see what brand of crib they had so we wouldn't have to bring our travel one, and the woman who answered the phone on my initial call checked with the head of housekeeping so I could have the correct info (in case you are interested: Graco Pack n Plays, and LA Baby folding rolling mini cribs). The location was great, 2 blocks from union station, and the room we stayed in was very quiet (important for us and our little light sleeper!). I stayed at the Hotel George recently during a business trip. When I went to check in, I realized my reservations had been made for the wrong day, but the staff never seemed put out or annoyed. They offered me a glass of wine while they found me an available room. I stayed at the Hotel George for 3 nights in Autumn, 2013. I had stayed at other Kimpton properties in Chicago and Boston and have mostly been a fan of the boutique concept. Until Hotel George that is.... Perhaps the room we were in was just a dud. The toilet backed up to the point where in the middle of the night we had to go to get up; put on normal clothes and shoes; take the elevator to the lobby; and then the steps to the fitness center to use a PUBLIC restroom. That first day we were told was fixed but had the same issue the second evening. If I wanted to get dressed in the middle of the night and climb steps to get to/from a public rest room I'd stay in a hostel for a fraction of the price of this "4 star" property. Upon the second report of the toilet issue, we were given a bottle of wine (the free stuff from the 5-6 PM complimentary events) and a weak 'sorry'. As if a broken toilet is not enough, our room had some serious HVAC issues. The room temp would climb into the 80's no matter what the stat was set on. This was also brought to the front desk's attention and we were told it would be fixed. It wasn't. As we were checking out I re-stated many of these issues and the front desk manager offered breakfast from the in-house restaurant that we didn't have time for due to our travel arrangements. read more

We were visiting for my daughter's 23rd birthday. Our stay was super pleasant enhanced by the lovely staff of the hotel...Johnny, Sirrah and Shantel in particular. However, everyone we encountered was warm, personable and helpful including a birthday surprise for my daughter. She is not easily impressed either but loved it! Also, VERY convenient to Union Station and several modes of transportation. Loved the bathroom wanted to take and install in my townhouse as well as the luscious bed. Decor was simple yet tasteful. I wish I could give this hotel NEGATIVE stars! It started with the night my husband and I checked in. The AC unit in the room was broken. They had no other rooms available, so they brought us a fan and gave us a free breakfast the next morning. I should mention that I have a nocturnal seizure disorder and need to be kept at a comfortable temperature while I sleep or I can have a seizure. The next morning, Mike the manager, said that they would look into refunding us for the night but continued by saying that refunding through Hotwire is very difficult but he would keep us posted. The food at "Bistro Bis", which is supposed to be amazing, was AWFUL! The French toast tasted like it had been soaked in oil and then thrown on a griddle. It was stale, yet oily. Figure that out! When we moved into the new room later that day, I was glad that it was cool in there, but there was something wrong with the bed. If you sat at the foot of the bed, the head of the bed came up. We didn't bother saying anything about that though; it just didn't seem worth it. The last night we were there, as my husband and I were getting ready for bed, we saw COCKROACHES! No, not water bugs, cockroaches! When we called the front desk to tell them, the response we were met with was nothing short of disdain. They didn't offer us a new room, not even another free breakfast (which we would have refused). No, instead they said, "Oh, I'm very sorry. Would you like your wake up call for 8am?" So when we got up the next morning...in HASTE...we packed our things and checked out. We again brought up the fact that there were bugs in our room and it was then that we were offered yet another free breakfast. Of course, we refused and I said, "we didn't enjoy the first free breakfast you gave us, I doubt today will be any different". Then we were offered a free room for the next time we are in DC. I looked at my husband and laughed out loud. I said, "Oh no, we won't be coming back here...ever." The man at the front desk, I believe his name was Patrick, said, "I'm really sorry about this." He then looked down and, as though nothing had happened, said "And I see you have no charges to your room..." While we were on our way home, I decided to check the credit card that they put a hold on for "incidentals". To my surprise there was a pending charge of $18.00. I immediately called the hotel to find out why. The reason I got? "It's just something our computer does when you eat at the restaurant. It will come off in a few days." When I further questioned WHY it does that, again, I was told "It's just something the computer does. You weren't charged; it's just a hold." Questions...no answers And if you are wondering about the refund, I called Hotwire myself and was able to get a full refund. However, my husband received an email from the assistant front desk manager saying that they were unable to get us a refund because we paid through Hotwire and they could not get Hotwire to reimburse any of our stay at the hotel. They were, however, willing to refund us a little less than half of what we paid. That email came in BEFORE I spoke with Hotwire and was told that no one from the hotel had contacted them. While I was on the phone with Hotwire, THEY called the hotel and got the entire thing resolved. For the most part, the staff was nice. However, nice front desk staff doesn't change the fact that there were BUGS in the room nor does it change the fact that the assistant manager blatantly LIED about a refund! This hotel is rated 4 stars and I think it's a joke! read more
