Well designed. while my food order had acceptable taste, While the steak tartar had interesting and flavorful ingredients,the steak was very fatty, not lean at all the way tartar should be. Similarly, the tuna nicoise was inclusive of wonderful flavorings, but the key element--the tuna--was medium rare at best and way over-seared. I'd return because the staff was good and ambiance quite nice, but be careful to give preferences on how much searing you want, and for sure, the fat-level of the tartar. read more

Stayed at the George for a night in DC to see Trevor Noah at the DAR Constitution Hall. The staff was so friendly, checked us in and offered us wine even though it was past the wine social hour! I loved the interior design throughout the hotel. We had a bottle of wine and fruits waiting for us in the room with a card wishing us a happy anniversary, a really nice gesture! Definitely like the free wine and piano performance. Didn't partake but the fact that that was an option was pretty cool. The room was nice and bed cozy. Overall, service was responsive and room was clean. For romance, it's decent. The location to the Capital and Station are really key, but there aren't any worthwhile restaurants close by except for the ones at the station. Walk to national mall is about 10 min. Close to Bikes to rent which is super convenient and would make me want to stay again. read more

I'm a sucker for Kimpton Hotels. I like the art deco and the lay out it was cool. Definitely a hotel for young professionals. I forgot my flat iron and thought it was cool that they had some at the front desk. Nice amenities!!! They even have hair spray at the desk. The only reason I am giving the hotel 2 stars is because I appreciate the accommodation during all of the COVID madness. The room was clean and the bedding comfortable. HOWEVER I have many issues with this hotel. First, there was a ton of noise coming from the hallway ice machine, making it difficult to sleep; the hallway that we were on smelled of cigarette smoke. unfortunately, I forgot my wallet in the hotel room. my trip took place 3/28/20 and I have called every day since then to pick up my wallet. They have confirmed that they have it in their possession but never have the right key to release it to me. Because all of my credit cards, ID, and debit card are in this wallet, I missed my flight home. the staff has handled this situation with an insanely unprofessional manner. I have reached out to Kimpton Corporate, IHG Corporate, and the site level staff with no resolve. I cannot believe that they are not able to even mail me this... I am now stuck in DC through COVID and am only able to use my phone for Apple pay to purchase things. I have had to order a new drivers license (which is taking longer than normal since the DC DMV is closed). Save yourself the trouble and stay at any other hotel nearby. read more

I stayed here a while ago before I moved to DC. Let me just say that I wanted to make sweet, sweet love to the plush bedding, the marble bathrooms, the snazzy warhol prints in the rooms, the stylish lobby, the great bar.....ok you're getting my drift. This hotel really delivers beyond the lobby unlike alot of boutique hotels that leave their accoutrement at the elevator doors. Even though this is a pricey hotel, the staff is very warm and welcoming, when you walk in the door they greet you live they have known you for years. Love this place. read more

I mostly enjoyed my stay, with the exception of one major flaw. The hotel staff is quite friendly and helpful and the rooms are nice. All this said my major gripe with the place is the internet is atrocious. It refused to work even with the help of their internet customer service the first day, and the second day (after someone came to fix it)it worked, but the signal dropped many times. It wasn't working at all our third day and just ended up being a major hassle. I can not recommend this place for anyone looking for a place to be productive on the internet, however if this doesn't apply to you it is a great place to stay. read more

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Hotel George a few weekends ago, and had the best time. It's location is fantastic for visiting the Capitol, the National Mall, etc. It's all well within walking distance, but you can always take the circulator bus for a dollar if your legs wear out. I was there for a conference that had no space left, and I am so glad! The hotel was clean, bright, and very modern. The staff was incredibly nice and helpful. Our room was a bit on the small side, but who needs a big room anyway? The bed was really comfortable, with big fluffy feather pillows (although you can choose foam if you prefer), we were greeted each day with a free paper, and the mini-bar was stocked! The TV was a flatscreen, and there was a 24-hour yoga channel. Sweet! If only it came with a yoga mat to use too! Two things to note: if you are addicted to coffee, do NOT panic when you go into your room and see no coffee maker! Simply call down to the front desk and ask for a pot to be sent up. And, you can always go for the "for $1 more" option and get the $10 Starbucks card. For each day of my stay, I had a fresh $10 Starbucks card to use. Bought a light breakfast and coffee for my boyfriend and me every day. Even if you don't love Starbucks, you've got to love a bargain! read more

The hotel is across from Union Station and its Metro station, making it a great choice for train travelers. The staff is terrific, and the room, while small, is lovely and the decor unique. Happy hour in the lobby. Our only complaint is that the room ventilation/heating system was very noisy and difficult to control. Drafty and cold one day, hot the next. To get free wi-fi, you must sign up for the rewards program. There is a fabulous bartender downstairs at Bistro Bis, but the advertised "$10 bar credit" doesn't apply to the hotel bar, but only to the mini-bar in the room! read more

There really aren't words to describe how good The George is. I'm a Kimpton lover. I've stayed at virtually every Kimpton in the DC metro area at one time or another. And it comes down to the George and the Palomar as simply the two best. Of a great group. The rooms have been renovated since the last time I stayed there and they are wonderful. But it isn't the facilities, no matter how good they are, that sets the George apart. It's the staff. Absolutely every person is warm, friendly and inviting. Always being greeted with a smile and hello. And as the person who referred Jeff J (see review below) and another dozen or more who also had rooms this weekend, I knew that all my friends would be well taken care of by the incredible staff. In particular, I'd like to commend Michael, the assistant front desk manager for all the attention he gave to my motley crew. This attention to the customer also extends to the stellar restaurant Bistro Bis. The food is great, but the wait staff was top notch. My only regret is that there is a 5 star limit. Because that doesn't do the Hotel George justice with how amazing it is. You can never go wrong at any Kimpton Hotel. But the George is even special among the Kimpton group. And that is saying something extraordinary. read more

Stayed here for two nights while on a combination business and pleasure trip. I had a really great experience at this hotel. The room was big, clean, and pleasant. The bed was particularly comfortable and the pillows were really nice too. I slept surprisingly soundly. Internet was fast and reliable (good enough to use for a work web conference), and free if you sign up for the hotel's Rewards program. Used room service to pre-order breakfast to be delivered in the morning, and that went smoothly too. Hotel George is walking distance from Union Station (very close) and also a short walk to the mall to see museums and monuments and such. I had such a nice time at Hotel George, I will definitely consider other Kimpton hotels when traveling. read more

When I booked in, I handed over a personal cc as security for incidentals. I specifically confirmed with the clerk that the card for security and that the final bill would be paid by my office. Without authorization from me, they then immediately charged my card for my entire (lengthy) stay. I called the front desk about it and they said the charge was a mistake and they would undo it. But they never did. It was then a major hassle for me to get reimbursed by my work. Sad to find such terrible customer service at what is otherwise a decent hotel. read more

Loved this hotel and locality. It was close enough to the capital and parking was convenient. Upon arriving, the staff was very friendly. The room we were placed in had a weird smell, like onions. When we called to notify them of this issue, they immediately upgraded us to a larger, different room. Our stay here was without any other incident. read more

Friendly staff. The valet/ concierge was especially awesome. Brought my luggage to the room and put it up all nicely, handled our luggage very well and was very personable. We came into town a little early and asked the front desk if there was anyway we could check in before our check in time. They were super understanding and got us a wonderful room. The bathroom is lovely and the beds are so comfortable! Parking price is a bit steep, especially since we are hotel guests I feel it shouldn't be around $50 a day. I'm used to paying $20-30. What a sweet little hotel! So close to the train/bus station & the capital. Front desk staff was charming and a half! Excellent, yet expensive, room service & tons of minibar treats. Super comfortable bed. Lovely, bright, huge bathroom with separate shower and bathtub. Animal print bathrobes!!! Windows that open!!!! Only thing that would have made the place better was a pool but I settled for steaming myself in the steam room. :) Excellent prices for such a lovely hotel. Our room at Hotel George was compact and very romantic. The location is excellent, close to everything in the Washington DC but away from all the noise in the city. The service is impeccable! The lounge and bar areas are very nice and comforting. We had dinner at the Bistro couple of night during our stay. The rooms were of decent sizes and the bathroom was amazing. If you are in DC as a tourist and looking to sightseeing this is the place to stay. The Hotel George is the most conveniently located in the DC area. The hotel is adjacent to the US Capitol Building, one block from the Union Station Metro Station and in close proximity to The White House, the National Mall, and the museums of the Smithsonian Institution. The hotel is conveniently located to capital hill and my headquarters in DC but come 6 pm the area around the hotel is a wasteland. The nearest open restaurant is more than a half mile away. The restaurant in the hotel is mediocre and overpriced. I ordered the burger through rooms service and it was $40.00+ and was not all that special. The restaurant us also quite heavy handed with the salt. I ate there three times and each dish was over salty including the omelet which was inedible. read more

The staff was extremely friendly, they constantly went out of their way to make us and our kids feel at home. The food from Bistro Bis was expensive, but delicious. I chose to make a reservation at this hotel because it is pet friendly and has a great location. I made a great decision because The George exceeded my expectations! The staff was so helpful and accommodating ; and friendly doesn't begin to describe their approach to pets. We had a comfortable stay, not least because our very senior dog was relaxed and happy. ( the front desk spoiled her with cookies) As for my husband and myself, we found the room to be very comfortable and quiet, cleverly decorated with a bright bathroom and up-to-date technology. We had dinner at the hotel's restaurant, which we had chosen for convenience, but now would select even if it was across town. The service was impeccable, our waiter being very helpful with suggestions. The decor is elegant without being stuffy. And the food was outstanding. We were a party of six, and each person exclaimed over their main course "best (duck or lamb) I've ever had!" There is also a hosted wine-tasting every day at 5PM which we thoroughly enjoyed. The George is a small hotel and is intimate and relaxing. After our stay, we agreed we would enjoy a return visit to the Hotel George and Bistro Bis again. read more

The price was great for this hotel. Really nice rooms, staff is super friendly and helpful. The metro is a quick walk away. The only downfall is the location. There are very few places to eat nearby especially for breakfast. There's also a lot of homeless people standing outside the hotel constantly asking for money. It just gets annoying after awhile. If I was comparing the Hotel George against other hotels (like the nearby Hilton or Renaissance) then I'd rate the Hotel George with 4 stars on the Kimpton brand alone. But after staying at so many Kimpton Hotels, I reluctantly admit that the Hotel George falls somewhat short from the typical Kimpton Hotel. Service remains friendly, prompt, and impeccable and the amenities second-to-none but the quality of the hotel itself is sub-par when compared to the lavish Hotel Monaco or the executive-styled Hotel Palomar Arlington. It's an older building where you'll find slower elevators and doors that are difficult to open. The rooms are smaller by comparison as well. I have been a Kimpton fan for about two years now and became a Kimpton member a couple of months ago. The hotels I've stayed at have been clean, aesthetically pleasing, and comfortable. I booked the executive room at the George Hotel for my parents' anniversary and the staff could not have been more hospitable. My parents were surprised with a bottle of wine, snacks, cheese plate, and a signed anniversary card from the staff. They were super excited and pleased with what they were greeted with and will definitely stay at Kimpton hotels in the future. The bathroom was amazing, and the room overall felt homey. We stayed at the Hotel George for several days during New Year's and did not have one complaint! The hotel is in an excellent location. Right down the street from Union Station, and minutes away from Capitol Hill. They offer free wi-fi and a free wine hour from 5-6 pm and the staff is excellent. The hotel is fine but they charge a 33 dollar amenity fee. That includes WiFi, some car service that will take you a mile that they don't even tell you about when you check in and my personal favorite local and long distance calls. That was a great amenity in 1996. Just a way of bait and switching prices. A lot of hotels in dc are starting to do that now so beware. read more

We got a reservation by chance through Priceline, selecting 4-star and the amount we were willing to pay. A great find--almost directly across from the Hyatt a block from Union Station, 3 blocks from the Capitol and a straight 17 block walk to the White House. This is a well-appointed personalized small "boutique" hotel on E Street. The double-sheeted king bed was super comfortable. Marble tile bathroom had a separate shower and bath. All extremely clean except for minor carpet spots. The desk staff were unusually friendly for Washington, and the wine reception at 5:00 was nice, although we only were in the hotel one out of five nights at that time. The only down side to our stay was the lack of a highly rated Yelp breakfast place nearby. For breakfast, try Yelping just a few stops up on the red Metro line at Dupont Circle. read more

My boyfriend and I stayed here for a single night stay (Sunday to Monday) just yesterday. The staff is extremely helpful and polite. The setup and decor are pretty artsy/trendy, so I particularly enjoyed it. Our bathroom was amazing - A spacious tub and a stand up shower, with some awesome aromatherapy toiletries supplied in the shower. Relaxing was such a breeze in this hotel. They even offer free wi-fi and plenty of cable TV channels, including several HBO movie channels. We ordered room service for breakfast and the food was delicious - A tad overpriced, but we left the hotel on full tummies, so can't complain! This hotel is also pet-friendly. Check in is 3pm and we arrived at 1:30pm, they let us check in early without a problem. Checkout is 12pm and our bus didn't depart until 7:30pm because we still needed the entire day to check out some more sites/museums, the hotel happily held our bags for us while we further explored what DC had to offer. Very helpful and appreciated! My only complaints about this place are: 1. Our room was FREEZING and there's no way to control the temperature! Although, I guess it's better than being too hot/stuffy. 2. The area is pretty bland. We were starving around 9pm and there was absolutely nothing to eat in a walking distance... Being from NYC, that was a real shock/disappointment... But it IS walking distance (decent at least) from the start of the museums, so that was a plus. I recommend this hotel, our stay was quite lovely for the most part. read more
