The Hamilton was the host Hotel for an event I attended recently. We decided to grab rooms here just to make everything a little bit easier. I called ahead of time to get clarity on their parking and valet prices. Check-in went really well and my room was ready a little bit earlier so I was able to go up and put my things away before attending the event. I love they offer snacks and drinks right in your room if you need them but can only imagine how expensive they were. I went to a friend's room and picked up a few and started getting yelled at about not touching them and that's when I realized they were on pressurized plates. Oops. She wasn't too happy . . . . lol Elevator was a little questionable because at times you didn't need to have your key in order for it to move, and at times you did. I did like they keep your bags if your room isn't ready or after you've checked out. The room was clean and since I didn't really spend much time in it I didn't see anything out of the ordinary or unpleasant which was great. Upon check out and grabbing the car, we we were charged over $100 when we were originally quoted $69 if we stayed the night. Fees or whatever else they tacked on were astronomical and ridiculous. It irritated me somewhat because I specifically called prior to booking to ask about their parking policy and wasn't informed about the extra fees SO BE AWARE! read more

The Hamilton Hotel is across the street from Franklin Park. Metro is about a block away. Don't confuse this place for The Hamilton Restaurant (about 3 blocks away). The lobby is comfy. The staff are proactive and nice. They led us to areas instead of just pointing where to go. We attended an event in the Schuyler Room. It is a great meeting area. The food looked better than it tasted. It was a sad meal. The salad was mostly lettuce with a few thinly sliced cucumbers and a handful of radishes. The best part of the salad was the lemon vinaigrette. There were two entree choices: Smelly fish or watery rice, masquerading as risotto. Dessert was the best item. The location is conveniently located to downtown DC, shopping and restaurants. You can walk to the White House or mall. read more

We had a nice stay at The Hamilton while we visited the museums and monuments. The room was comfortable with a King-sized bed with adequate space to walk around. There were electrical plugs on the base of the lamp on the nightstand, and the desk had a built-in strip with plugs including USB. The bathroom had body wash, shampoo, conditioner, and lotion as well as a hairdryer. There was an iron & ironing board in the closet. Don't confuse the mini-bar with the mini-fridge. The mini-bar has drinks and snacks on the top, which are sensor activated so if you move them, you will be charged. The staff was very nice and the lady who checked us in was very helpful with maps and directions. We had several hours before our flight on check-out day, and they held our luggage for us while we did more touristy things. The hotel is close to the museums. You could walk or take the bus. There's several bus stops across the street and it's about one-and-a-half blocks to the Metro station. read more

Cool hotel concept and location but that's about it. Furniture has scuff marks, the didn't clean under the bed, shower head sprays sideways, bathroom door doesn't close, and the tub doesn't train so it fills up as you shower, the couch in our room has warped cushions, and the "theme" of our room is a single framed picture of words in the shape of Jefferson's head. The view is nice of the park. My biggest complaint is the lack of coffee. No coffee bar for guests, no coffee shops open on the same block, and the restaurant downstairs didn't have coffee either. I don't understand why they'd do this and it kinda makes the morning start off wrong when you've gotta get showered, dressed, and layered to walk in 30 degree weather in search of caffeine. read more

My boyfriend and I traveled to Washington, D.C., for my graduate school residency and chose this hotel because of its convenient location within walking distance of my campus. Unfortunately, our experience was so disappointing that I can confidently say I will never stay here again when I return for future residencies. On our first full day, we returned to our room to find that a power bank was missing and several of our belongings had been moved. I am an extremely organized person, so it was immediately obvious that items were not where I had left them. After thoroughly searching the room without success, my boyfriend went to the front desk to ask for assistance. Rather than taking our concerns seriously, the staff member he spoke with was rude, dismissive, and even accused him of not being able to "get his story straight." When he returned and explained what had happened, I called the front desk myself. Within approximately two minutes, I received a callback informing me that a "security investigation" had already been completed and that no one had entered our room. Given the almost immediate response, I have serious doubts about how thorough any investigation could have been. Instead of addressing our concerns professionally, I was told that we must have "misplaced" our belongings. The conversation remained dismissive from start to finish. To make matters even more concerning, the following day I again noticed that personal items had been moved to places I would never have put them. Considering we consistently had our Do Not Disturb sign displayed, the hotel's explanation simply did not align with what we experienced. We were also supposedly "upgraded" to a different room, but it was anything but an upgrade. We were placed in a connecting room next to guests who repeatedly opened and slammed the adjoining door and were loud well into the night, making it difficult to rest. In addition, our television never functioned during our stay, and our mini refrigerator stopped working entirely. This was more than a minor inconvenience. Because I have medically necessary gluten- and soy-free dietary restrictions due to allergies and other health concerns, I rely on bringing my own safe food while traveling. When the refrigerator failed, all of my refrigerated food spoiled and had to be thrown away. What disappointed me most was not just the condition of the room, but the complete lack of professionalism and accountability from the staff. Mistakes happen in hospitality, but how those mistakes are handled is what separates excellent hotels from poor ones. At no point did I feel that our concerns were genuinely investigated or that anyone cared about resolving them. Instead, we were met with skepticism, dismissiveness, and a lack of basic customer service. Having worked in the hospitality industry myself for several years, I understand the standards guests should be able to expect. This experience fell well below those standards. Respect, empathy, and professionalism cost nothing, yet they were noticeably absent throughout our stay. If you're looking for accommodations in Washington, D.C., I would strongly encourage you to consider one of the many other hotels in the area. The location alone is not worth the frustration, poor service, and overall lack of hospitality we experienced. read more

I stayed here for four nights in an Executive King Room. The way I'd describe this hotel is that it looks very nice until you get up close. Our room had several issues, including a reading light that didn't work on my side of the bed, non-functioning outlets on my boyfriend's side, wallpaper peeling from the wall in several places, terrible water pressure, and a door that was too small for the frame when it came to locking and blocking light from the hall. While these are small annoyances, it took away from the charm and sophistication of such a historic building and gave it a cheaper look and feeling. The location was convenient as it was less than a 15 minute walk from the convention center and an even closer walk to the nearest Metro station. The view over Franklin Park was spectacular. With so many other hotel options, I don't know that I'd stay here again but by no means was it a bad stay. read more

While the hotel's age could account for some things like outdated outlets and bathroom appliances, there is no reason for any establishment to be in this level of disrepair. From the "dirty laundry" smell that permeated our room, to the visible mold and dirt, I wouldn't even recommend this place to someone on a tight budget. The price point and the photos of the restaurant and lobby make this place seem like the upper level of the mid-range of boutique hotels, but I've had a cleaner room and better service at a Holiday Inn express. Carpets and furniture in the lobby were filthy and old. The one redeeming quality is the proximity to amenities, and the view of Franklin park. read more

The hotel has obviously been renovated. Our suite was fine, except the dark blue wall paper made it feel smaller. They advertise Chromecast (one thing we always look for) and even the hotel's technician couldn't make it work. When I called the front desk to ask about how to get ice, she said go to the 3rd floor. The Hamilton Hotel is located in a great spot in Downtown DC. Only blocks from the White House and one block to a Metro station. We chose this hotel as we are big fans of the TV show, Veep, and they have a suite themed after it. The suite contains several props from the show which was very fun for us as fans. The suite consisted of a bedroom, bathroom, living room and entry hallway and was on the upper floor of the hotel. The view was on Franklin Park and the Washington Monument in the distance. During our stay we enjoyed the clean room, beautiful historic look and feel of the hotel, and the location. We had an issue with our tub not draining, but it was fixed quickly once we mentioned it. The room was stocked with fresh towels daily and was clean. Some people need to be reminded what a historic hotel experience can be like and what their expectations need to be. That being said, we enjoyed our time here and would consider it again for future trips. read more

I received two charges on the same day for nearly the same amount and had significant difficulty disputing them. Be aware that opening the refrigerator or minibar--even without consuming anything--can trigger automatic charges. I was charged $54, which was eventually refunded, but only after spending hours on the phone with the hotel and going through a lengthy dispute process with my credit card company. I do not appreciate the amount of time and multiple phone calls it took to get this resolved. read more

Good location and bed was very comfy BUT lame a/c did not get very cool , multiple electric outlets did not work, had to blow dry and straighten my hair plugged into the lamp between the beds. . I was there one night, didn't park a car, didn't use the mini-bar, didn't order food or anything else. I'd already overpaid for the room. Totally inadequate lighting throughout the room - no light for the closet, dim light in the bathroom, dim light in the bedroom area, carpet and floor dirty. Elevators were not all working and I had to wait about 10 minutes to get on one to go down to check out. Very nice staff at the front desk but it was not the most pleasant stay to begin with and I was upset to find an extra $30 charge that was withdrawn from my bank two weeks after I checked out! When I called to ask about it the phone would just hang up on me without being answered. Three separate times! Then when I tried again using *67 first the call went through and was answered. They said the extra $30 was because I used Priceline to book and it was a "facility fee." After communicating with "Penny" at Priceline it was revealed that the hotel charges an additional facility fee --$31.96 -- but I only saw that when I clicked on Important Information link which was near the bottom far right on the Itinerary so I didn't even notice it before. I feel like any charges should be disclosed right up front. Not something you have to noodle around for. The only "facility" I used was the room. It's like if you go out to eat at a restaurant and then get charged a facility fee for dining there! So be careful if you use Priceline and don't book at the Hamilton! Stayed here for my first ever trip to DC and I have nothing but good things to say about my stay. There were no hidden fees or unexpected charges, and the the staff are friendly, professional, and show that they care about your experience as a guest. For example, we unfortunately had to make a noise complaint about our next-room neighbors karaoking in their room past midnight, and the front desk staff and security handled the situation promptly. Another plus for DC tourists like myself is the location being within reasonable walking distance of the capitol sights, and also close to public transport (bus stop across the block, and the metro a couple blocks away). I'd definitely return to the Hamilton for future stays and would recommend for anyone coming into DC for capitol touring. read more

Front entrance was boarded up upon arrival. Side door opens with a strong overpowering smell of disinfectant each time you come back in. Elevators are small and stuffy . Hotel staff very friendly except for bell men who only want to help people that THEY think will give them a tip. Restaurant Via Sofia was horrible and overpriced. Tried to charge me 68 dollars for 2 eggs and bacon. Had happy hour at the restaurant and had "marinated " olives submerged in regular Sysco oil............gross! Being a Chef, you should have just kicked me, instead of putting me thru that! Horrible restaurant! Room was same as 2-3 star hotel, NOT what some sites say. Overall, did not like it for my trip, and no wonder they have a no refund policy. Pick another hotel. At night, a lot of young females in mini dresses are taking up all the seats in the lobby. I'm not sure why I was charged daily resort fees, there were no amenities whatsoever. The lobby looks gorgeous but you can't even find the hotel restrooms without having to go downstairs. The rooms are small and wi-fi signal was terrible. We had a room where the window faces Franklin Park and I had to stay in the bathroom in order to get wi-fi. Sound proof was none. It was rainy during our stay and you can hear rain drops like a leaking faucet on the ceiling, so annoying! The AC/Heat unit was loud too. I was not restful during my stay here. One star for the central location; the other star for the blackout curtain. Can you imagine how I felt when it was time to make coffee in the morning and all I had were Decaf pods? read more

This hotel is centrally located in DC. Get on the M at McPherson and travel to Arlington Cemetery for the day. Or goto Stan's for a drink (we loved the atmosphere here). Walking distance to the White House and don't forget to take pictures of the Eisenhower executive building (beautiful building architecture). The rooms at The Hamilton are small with a refrigerator and a safe but no microwave. No bottles of water but they do have a water bottle fill up station in the lobby. It's all about location in DC. I found Hamilton hotel, true travel zoo which I'm a big fan of travel zoo. But unfortunately, the hotel is a little outdated and old. Also, the shower has curtains. The carpet in the room is outdated and not really that clean. It had stains on it. but the staff are nice and the location is great if you could get this hotel around $120 And you don't care about how clean it is it's worth it if not they're way better hotels in Washington DC for about $200 a night. We paid on average $160 a night which supposedly was half price but believe you and me this was no $320 a night hotel so that's a little upsetting too. They have their prices so high but they discount it to practically nothing. read more

Such a beautiful hotel on the outside and the entrance is also pretty nice...... but wow what a disappointment. I did not want to take off my shoes or let alone shower in this place. The room felt more like a motel room! We have stayed at hotels worldwide and this is hands down one of the biggest disappointments. Came here for a conference in the hotel and though the lobby is charming, the stay overall was so so. Front lobby staff very friendly and helpful. The elevators are tiny, and only 4 of them so when the hotel is packed, it takes forever to get up and down. You can probably fit 3 people max with a suitcase each and that would be a tight squeeze. The room is small, though the bed is comfy. I got mosquito bites the first day and saw mosquitos in my room. The worker was able to spray down my room, it seems that someone left the window open before my arrival? Did not know hotel rooms still had windows that could open. The conference rooms had a weird smell, like the unpleasant bathroom smell you get? The social events, some of the food was good some was not great. read more

There are too many hotels in DC to choose this one. Overall, I was extremely disappointed in this hotel. For a "4-star hotel" I have experienced more amenities, friendlier staff, clean spaces at hotels at half the cost. For my first time visiting DC, I regretted each time I had to return to my hotel room. For a two night stay, I had a great initial experience getting checked in, but my room was chaotic. You can barely see the old charm of this historic hotel within the rooms. For the king bed standard room. There was so much furniture - full desk, huge media stand, a couch, minibar. The interior design is hard to look at- sharp wall paper, bold art, dark furniture. Worries started to arise when I attempted to plug in my phone, they have three lamps with plug in within their bases (one on each night stand and one on the desk). Spark came out of the lamps on the end tables as I attempted to plug in my OG Apple phone charger. I opened the minibar to peek at why these prices were so high. All the beer (7) cans had dates from 2023. All snacks are reboxed without expiration dates. Ice machine was broken on my floor and there was no access to cold water. My bathroom would only reach Luke- warm. I wanna shout of the cleaning crew who unclogged the bathtub that didn't drain. They were receptive and cleaned the tub as well. An acclaimed "4-star" rating is a joke. Your towels feel like similar to those from a dog salon. I attached a picture of the spider web in my room. The hospitality ended after my check in. Checking out, the front desk clerk did not greet me, ask how my stay was, or thank me for staying. read more

A solid 2.5 stars hotel. The pictures online looked way nicer than in person so it was a little misleading. Don't get me wrong, it is very classy and elegant but has a super old feel to it too. The lobby smelled so nice and was decorated pretty bougie and bright tho so I like the decor haha. Can't say the same for the rooms. Great location because it was a block from the metro, White House, and park...however it is kind of a long 25 min walk to all the Smithsonian museums. We booked the Diplomate suite which came with a king + sofa bed (full size). It was a little disappointing that we booked a suite but had the view looking directly at another building and their rooms :| The room is set up so when you walk in, there is a bathroom on the right. As you keep going, it's the "living area" with couch on the left, desk and window north, small TV + closet south. To the right is a double door room leading to the sleep area with king size bed. The sleep area was very spacious and came with another tv, fridge, chair, two nightstands, and two windows. I did not like the way the room was set up because I found it super tight once the sofa was turned into a full size bed (which btw was extremely springy). You can't even sit at the desk area once the bed is pulled out. There was nowhere to put the coffee table too. Maybe if there wasn't the double doors, it wouldn't seem so tight. We booked this suite thinking it would be big enough for 4 of us but it turned out to be a lot smaller than we expected. As for cleanliness, it was extremely dusty. Everywhere. Especially the bathroom, I felt like I was having an allergic reaction every time I was in there. It was so strange...I would get super congested ONLY when I was in the bathroom from dusty towels, faucet, mirror, countertop, omg so much dust! The shower's water pressure was great, toilet not so much. They actually gave their toilet a name and placed a note in the bathroom that it's meant to save water? Also the toilet was very short.. We had a lot of confusion and miscommunication with customer service. When we arrived, they told us we can check in a little early (we were early by 30 min). When I asked if it cost extra to check in early, she kept saying we can check in early. I asked three times to clarify, but she still just gave me the same answer and wouldn't say if it cost extra lol. Another miscommunication happened with the rollaway beds. There's a link where you can message them any questions/ requests and they'll get back to you. So they called our room because we asked about a rollaway bed. Shortly after, they sent a man to our room to see if we still want the bed. He kept questioning us why we wanted a bed when there's 4 of us and our room had king + sofa bed. Well the sofa bed was a full size so it's kind of tight for 2 people. He said he would go get it so that I can decide if the rollaway bed is big enough to fit our room. It was a full size air mattress and it fit perfectly. I asked 3X what the additional fee would be for the rollaway bed, but he would not give me an answer and just ignored it. I'm glad we got the rollaway bed but at the same time, there's just a lot of inconsistency and miscommunications. Before arriving, we were told that we can't have a rollaway bed because the room booked would pose a fire safety hazard? Long story short, it does NOT cost extra for close to early check in and rollaway beds lol. We asked for two extra room cards but didn't know it would deactivate the two first cards. It was kind of an inconvenience because we all had to walk back down to the lobby just to get four new cards. I only say it's a long walk because the elevators are tiny (fits probably 5 people) and old so it's sooo slow. There's extra bathrooms on the ground floor if you take the stairs on the right once you enter the hotel. Also an elevator next to the bathrooms that takes you to other floors... but downside is you can't visit that ground floor from other floors, only via stairs from main floor. Overall, great location and we felt fairly safe. It's pretty sketchy outside but they have security standing at the front door and closed more doors at night to prevent non-guest from coming in. Also really friendly and welcoming whenever we returned to the hotel. They did their best in accommodating us with the rollaway beds, extra pillows, and extra room cards. I like that they offer free water machines in the lobby. They need to improve on the the miscommunication, cleanliness and diplomate suite set-up. read more

Had a quick little business meeting. Got this confused with the Hamilton down the strreet. They say it always happens. Not sure I'm loving this over the other Hamilton. The other spot, which is completely different, has a better menu. When COVID19 was non-existent this was a great place to come and have a coffee. They have excellent coffee. Food was good too just a limited menu. Valet Parking is always a plus in the city. It's a requirement for me or I'm Ubering. But this place has it. Elegant and upscale. Suits and more suits. Our car was stolen from the Hamilton Hotel valet parking service. Valet parked our car, received our end of the ticket. went to check out 2 days later and the valet could not find our car! Apparently our car was given to someone without them providing any identification or proof! I also stayed at the Hamilton earlier this year during their renovations. I, too, wish I'd been told up front that this was what was going on, because I would have probably chosen another hotel while they were dealing with that. As others have written, the staff are the best part of this hotel experience -- always nice, accommodating. The location is wonderful, regardless of whether you are there for business or as a tourist. The rooms themselves have some issues -- I think I have posted a photo of how the bathroom electrical outlet is positioned somewhere that goes across the sink -- kind of illogical if you want to both dry your hair and, well, not get electrocuted! I also would say that if you are someone for whom mobility is an issue at all, this is definitely not the hotel for you. I've posted a photo of the stairs we needed to walk up to get to the lobby, and even for an able-bodied person, if you have a big suitcase, that was quite a schlep. Not sure whether they usually have an elevator that goes to the ground floor -- we also had to enter through the back because of the construction, so again, this may have been a unique issue. But what I'd strongly recommend is if you use a wheelchair, or simply have any other physical limitations around stairs (or claustrophobia -- elevators are very small), you may wish to reach out to the hotel before booking to find out the status of the construction -- or book elsewhere. This may seem petty, but I honestly would probably have returned -- but, as others have written about, the mandatory facilities charge they add to everyone's check for using the exercise room, regardless of whether you actually use the room, is b.s. and inexcusable. I travel all around the world for work, and have never had another hotel charge extra for that. If they stop doing that, I'd likely stay at The Hamilton again. read more

I absolutely love coming to DC. I brought my daughter here to enjoy her winter break after her first semester of college. Everything about our trip including the Museums, restaurants, Uber, etc... was great. But the Hamilton hotel disappointed in a MAJOR way. The hotel room we had was equipped with a refrigerator that did not work, a tub that did not drain and an AC that didn't work either! I wanted to express my dissatisfaction with the front desk staff but upon checking out she was dismissive and didn't even bother to ask how our stay was. The hotel needs to put maintenance in room 444 immediately. It was a damper on an otherwise great weekend. read more

Great stay at the Hamilton! The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the service was friendly. The hotel is in a great location, about a 20 minute walk from the Washington Monument and situated around plenty of places. I walked to Georgetown (50 minutes), up to Logan Circle (20 minutes), and even to the train station after my stay (35 minutes). The staff is helpful and brought water bottles to the room upon my request, and the room service is good albeit expensive. Via Sophia is a nice restaurant for guests. The pricing was very fair in my opinion, and I'd certainly stay again. read more
