So, we were absolutely thrilled with our stay at this hotel. We usually stay around the corner on Pennsylvania Avenue, at the Melrose hotel... Which is fancier But because we were staying nine nights, it appealed to me to take a hotel that had apartment styled rooms . I don't like Airbnb, because I don't wanna be responsible for Housekeeping... But we definitely wanted to have what we thought would be a kitchenette We took a one bedroom suite, which turned out to be a fully functional one bedroom apartment... A spacious king size bedroom, normal relatively small New York style bathroom which was absolutely fine, and a full living room with the dining table and a small kitchen We utilized every aspect of that hotel, including the laundry room that was available for a small charge, Trader Joe's which was a five minute walk away, Whole Foods which was a five minute walk in the other direction, and most important... The Foggy Bottom metro station. Within 20 minutes you can be anywhere, including Ronald Reagan airport... A direct shot on the blue line For those unfamiliar with Washington DC, foggy bottom is the closest metro station to Georgetown... Which is a leisurely 10 to 12 minute walk from the hotel to the center of the and dining district. The metro couldn't be easier to use, and the people at the hotel will help you find your way if you're unsure... And remarkably... The people who work at the metro stations are also incredibly helpful and patient... Quite a change from San Francisco where I live or New York where they pretend they are an idiot if you can even find them Another thing that makes the metro system so easy to use is that you can just click your phones and do auto pay if you have Apple Pay Google pay or something similar. I don't like other cities where you need to use that to charge some type of transit card... You can just directly do it there. Our tickets, no transit cards, no nothing just in and out. Back to the hotel, the restaurant was disappointing. The appetizer we served was so much of a joke that we didn't even eat dinner there. We just went somewhere else for dinner... But... And this is a good Butt... There are many restaurants within a 15 minute walk, including some of our favorites. And because we love to eat it happy hour there are several happy hour options available, including two branches of Founding Farmers We are a bit older, so we don't stay out that late in the day, and we don't care if we eat relatively early. So we usually enjoy loading up unhappy hour and moving from there. The Melrose also does a happy hour on cocktails and a few appetizers at all again for around the corner The front desk staff was astronomical, with the front desk manager really being a superstar. We were very appreciative of the excellent service by guest services manager Brandy, and her senior receptionist Jasmine. Service was excellent all the way around, with another set of thanks going to Saif , one of the bell/ door staff It's fair to say the hotel is not fancy nor the rooms elegant... But it was just so darn perfect for our knees and we would not consider staying anywhere else Also, the Watergate hotel is a few minutes walk away, so if you wanted to do something a little fancy or camping, you can go there for a drink. We did and had a nice time. I'm not sure I would want to stay in the place. Great location, nice room for my daughter and me. She likes to stay up late and sleep in, and I go to sleep earlier and get up early for coffee! Having the living room area and kitchen/dining area was ideal. We had room to spread out and be on our own schedules. The bathroom itself was small, but the closet was large and there was a thoughtful dressing area between the bedroom and bathroom. The location is amazing... walk to restaurants, parking, busses all over, close to Georgetown and metro. Walking distance to the Lincoln Memorial and Vietnam Memorial area. The staff were friendly. It was in a cute neighborhood, not like the name brand hotels in the gov't district, where things are quiet on the weekends. There was a convenience store (had beer, wine and breakfast sandwiches and pastries) and a 7-11, each just a few blocks away. Walking distance to GW med center also. From walking in to the lobby, checking in and having the valet service, a restaurant on the first floor and an elevator (accessible only by card), made our stay feel completely safe, comfortable, and lavish. The suite had plenty of room, a full kitchen, a living room, and a king sized bed. The decor was very modernized and clean, I felt like I was at home. The River Inn also has a restaurant on the first floor, which provides full meals. Breakfast is NOT included, but the food was actually good and a great way to start your day before hitting those monumental sights! read more

Great great stay! The employees were beyond nice and accommodating! When you walk in they either smile or speak which is so nice! There is always water with fruit inside and some type of fruit on the side for you to enjoy! They also have complimentary electric bikes you can enjoy! All of these things were really nice! For safety reason not just anyone can go to the floors. You must have a key to enter a elevator there. I love that feature so a random person is going through to the rooms. They have a restaurant that is very nice and has a bar inside. The neighbor that accompanies the area is very nice. Since very family driven and I didn't have any problems the whole time I was there. There are several nice restaurants that are walking distance as well!! I really enjoyed that because I love to walk and I love good food!! Parking in DC can be a hassle depending on where you are. This location has street parking but it's a max of 2 hours and there are a few other rules. The hotel offers parking spots under a Garage if you are staying there so that's one less worry. Stayed here with my Granddaughter while visiting. We felt safe knowing you needed a key card to access the elevator. The desk is staffed 24 hours as well. The hotel was amazing, staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was large and comfortable, very clean. The service was exceptional. I would stay here again. Met a west coast friend in town for a conference. I live in Philadelphia now. Was excited to see hotel was listed as pet friendly since my friend and dog have known each other as long as I have known my dog. But it was even better than that - the staff were very friendly with pets and even had milk bones behind the desk. The pictures in the restaurant were also animal related. I've traveled all over this country with pets, and usually small places do not go out of their way to be so great. It's almost like stating a place is pet- friendly is the extent of it. We stayed here on our recent trip to DC. It worked perfectly for us. It had what we needed with comfortable rooms. The location was the main draw. You can easily walk to shopping in Georgetown and down to the Capitol as well. I like that the units have kitchenettes. There is a Whole Foods in walking distance that we got some goodies to keep in our room for snacking. This hotel is on the older side so it doesn't have the amenities that a newer hotel might have but it does have a lot of charm. read more

I'd definitely stay here again the next time I'm in DC. Very convenient location, within walking distance to the Foggy Bottom metro stop, which makes it really easy to get to after flying in to Reagan. It's also walking distance from Trader Joe's, so groceries are always on hand. The kitchenette is super cute and fully stocked with dishes, bowls, silverware, cups, etc. We didn't use the stove, but the fridge/freezer were awesome! The bed was really comfy, and the desk was pretty big and nice as well. Bathroom was a bit on the smaller side, but that wasn't a big deal. Only two slight negatives: we could hear people around us at times and there is no ice machine, but you can call to get ice delivered! read more

I stayed here 1 night with my family in April 2017 during our trip for the Sakura Matsuri street festival (which by the way was pretty cool) as per my son's birthday wish. The surrounding area is beautiful and we were mainly in our room to sleep and change, so my experience here is very brief. - The inn certainly has an old charm to it, with obvious newer designs mixed in. The oddly small mirrored elevator was an amusement to my kids along with the old narrow hallways, while the entrance and lobby are eye catching and modern. - Rooms are more recent, clean, with nice furniture and an extremely comfortable bed and pillows. Also quiet. - The pull-out bed my 2 children (12 and 18) shared was VERY uncomfortable and they had a rough time sleeping. - The carpet felt like it required an intense deep cleaning, if not a replacement. It is clearly very worn and had quite a number of visible stains. - The bathroom had a small 2", yet very noticeable, area of dark mold near the base of the door by the tub. Otherwise the bathroom was very clean. A fun surprise was being able to clearly hear the occupants next door in their bathroom. - The tiny kitchen was also clean (and much to my amusement, my son thought it was totally adorable). Appreciated the mini wash sponge and dish soap. We only used the refrigerator and sink during our stay. The tiny old stove top was certainly curious looking but we decided not to turn it on. - Though the room had a thermostat we found ourselves unable to alter the temperature and were quite cold. I ended up sleeping with my jacket on over my pajamas, in mid-April, and I normally keep my thermostat at home set to 65. - I had booked a room with a view but the windows revealed a dumpster below in a kind of alcove and all that was to be seen directly across was more of a brick building and windows. So, no view. - We could not connect to the wi-fi from our room. The signal was too weak. - Large new TV. Not really our thing as we stream all our movies and shows, still one of the kids flicked through the channels for a few minutes but didn't find anything of interest. - In case you're wondering, it is a PokeStop. - Limited room outlets. Normally not an issue, until everyone returned from a long day wanting to plug in their devices and sift through their photos while charging, before bed. - I did not know how limited parking was and reluctantly paid the $50 valet fee. - It is located very close to the Metro (2 blocks) and there are many nearby places to eat (dining in or take-out). - Booked through Expedia. Room price: $246.29 (1 night) Overall I felt like it was slightly overpriced and in need of some attending. My interactions with staff were limited to check-out and we did not dine at the hotel, so I cannot fairly comment on either. Was very impressed. To start, while valet parking was certainly pricey, it was worth it to not have to find a place to park my large truck in the city and valet service was quick and courteous. In fact, all the service I received that weekend was excellent. I checked out of my room but checked my luggage at the front desk on my last day in town and when I came back for my luggage and my truck, they loaded my luggage into my truck for me before pulling it up out of the valet lot. Very considerate. On a similar note, I left my truck there until 4 pm on the day of check-out with no additional charge, which was so appreciated with the difficulty of parking in the area I was in that day for my meetings. Room was clean and very spacious and I didn't hear any noise through the walls from my neighbors (although I am a very heavy sleeper and admittedly might not have noticed). read more

Some things, like the front desk were very, very good. The rooms were spacious, but we had to move from our first river view room on the 8th floor to the 3rd floor due to the AC unit in the bedroom making very loud noises when it shut off, causing us not to sleep the first night. When initially relocated to a room on the 5th floor, the same problem. We ultimately were moved to the 3rd floor, where this sound didn't occur, but no view other than the building across the way. We only ate at the restaurant for breakfast. The service was good, and the food was good. The building is older, and the HVAC and refrigerators in the kitchenette, could use updating. read more

The hotel is located by George Washington University campus, less than a mile from Dupont Circle. The ambience is calming and business like. My room was clean and nicely furnished. No complaints. The room service was expensive and not worth the money. Weirdly season burger and ranch dressing for the chicken wings. I would not order again. Really nice quiet stay. Room view was in the alley but there was nothing to look at around here except other buildings. The cable channels are awful, they need to add Lifetime, VH1, Comedy....this will broaden entertainment. read more

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the River Inn. They are conveniently located in the Foggy Bottom neighborhood and walking distance to a lot of shops and restaurants. The decor was tasteful and modern. I especially loved the large mirror and counterspace outside bathroom so you could effectively do your makeup and prep for the day. We booked online and called in to inquire about late check-ins- the staff was extremely nice and assured us that they have 24-hour staff that can check us in. We called the day of just to make sure. We ended up arriving much later than we'd planned (around 1AM) and they made the check in very simple and fast. The rooms are spacious and ours had a kitchen- with a gas stove and air vent, pots and pans, utensils, a full-sized refrigerator, and built-in garbage disposal. The bed came with four pillows and two additional pillows and an additional comforter in the closet. There was a large work desk and two complimentary water bottles, as well as a convertible couch. We also had access to free wi-fi which was't super speed, but we managed to stream off of Netflix with no problems at all. The bathroom was nice and spacious too, but I felt like there was lack of heating in there- the floors were marble tiles and ice cold. The shower head was a nice large rainfall-style, with strong water pressure. We felt like they were very thoughtful and felt very comfortable there. The only thing was that I felt the large windows had bad insulation- we'd turn the heat up to 78, and it would get very hot. But the moment we turned the heat down, it would get very cool, very fast because of a small draft on a cold (below freezing) day. Regardless, we had a very nice stay and would definitely come back again if the rates remain as reasonable as they were on a holiday weekend (cheaper than most). read more

When we returned home from vacation to find our apartment renovations unfinished and seriously awry... River Inn to the rescue! The staff is awesome and if you book early, there are definitely some deals to be had. Each room has a two-burner stove, microwave, kitchen sink and refrigerator with a small set of dishes/silverware. Love their shower heads (HUGE). The rooms are quite spacious and everything has always been beautifully clean. River Inn's location is ideal and as a result, our parents frequently stay here when they're visiting. At about 12:15 PM on 5/5/19 I booked a King Suite online for a room the same day. Within a half an hour I received news that interrupted my travel. I contacted The River Inn within an hour. I was told the manager was "busy" and would call me back. I waited a half an hour. That call back did not occur. I had to make a second call. I explained my situation and requested to cancel the room I book about an hour prior. I was told I cannot do that without penalty. I asked the penalty charge. I was told the full price of the room. So The River Inn charged me 150 dollars for the room as if I was in it. I was told to "check the policy, it states having to cancel before 24 hours of a stay". What if the customer booked in a window that doesn't have 24 hours in it? I booked at noon for a check in the same day. She would not give the courtesy. Then she had the nerve to say "I hope we can serve you in the future" With this level of customer service? NOT read more

My impression about the River Inn is exactly like its wifi password - Oh yeah, it's my 2nd home in DC! I may not want to look for another hotel for my next trip to DC because this one is just perfect - staff are super nice and the facilities are modern and clean. What I like about this hotel most is its location - right in the heart of the Foggy Bottom historic district and GWU, two blocks away from the metro station, Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, restaurants, banks, hospital...nice walking distance to the Renwick gallery and the white house, eight bucks of Uber to the DuPont Circle and Georgetown. I loved this place and will definitely stay here again if in the area. (1) Location - super close to Founding Farmers restaurant and only a 15 minute walk to the White House and Eisenhower Executive Building. Safe neighborhood and so no need to worry about walking back around 9 or 10pm. The place is lit up with green lights so easy to find the inn on this residential road. (2) Parking - flat fee of $40 for parking. You give your car keys to the front desk agent who passes it off to the garage guy. You can take your car out without having to pay again to repark. You can also park earlier than your check in time. (3) Staff - friendly and helpful in suggesting things to do. The person who checked me in addressed me by my name whenever I came in and went out. (4) Room - huge and comfy room with a good sized TV. Shower head is large and the water comes out with good pressure. Complimentary water bottles are a nice touch. The room also has a large desk, couch, and a kitchen. You can keep left over food in fridge and microwave it later. Kitchen has clean dishes. Bed, pillows and comforters are super comfortable. You melt into your bed. Clean! There are restaurants on site but I didn't try them bc Founding Farmers was super close. read more

Lovely stay here, and, at $99 per night, quite the steal. Yes, $99 per night for a room with a view. Granted, it was nothing tropically mind-blowing -- namely, a view of the street out in front of the hotel; however, for $99 per night DURING LABOR DAY WEEKEND, that is QUITE the view (as opposed to, say, a non-view of a bricked-up window in the seedy part of town where rooms go for hourly rates). Everyone on the staff was friendly, and Francis was especially helpful in hooking us up with an Ethernet cord so that we could get our Yelp fix while in DC. The free wifi is only in the lobby, but no worries because the rooms are wired for a landline Ethernet connection. The valet parking is $20 per 24 hours ($22.40 with taxes), which sounds a bit much. However, I feel it's well worth it because it comes with unlimited in-and-out privileges and, let's be honest, do you really want to spend all your time trying to hunt down a parking space in this area and then worrying about 2 hour parking before 10PM/government vehicle parking only during Tuesday through Thursday 9AM to 4PM/giraffe crossing during mating season and the second full moon of the winter months? No, no you do not. The furnishings are modern with clean lines. There's a good-sized (for New York, anyway) kitchenette with a full refrigerator/freezer, two burners, a microwave, a coffee maker and a sink at your disposal. Oh, and a garbage disposal, too, now that I mentioned that. The bed was INSANELY comfortable and firm, and the room as a general thing was sized generously. Oh! And the bath products are AVEDA! Yay! This was almost as exciting a discovery as when I stayed at the Hotel Vitale in San Francisco and ended up coming away toting a shoe-shine bag's worth of Fresh lemon bath products. Yum. Um, no, I mean...came away toting my luggage as I packed it and nothing additional at all in any way whatsoever. No way. Not at all. No siree. As a previous reviewer mentioned, the bathroom itself could use a little sprucing up. The bathroom was clean, but a little older than the rest of the remodeled room with the bathtub a "standard" size and not one of those jumbo, deep, so-big-you-swear-you're-getting-seasick models. Seriously, though, that's just minor stuff...I mean, really, how much time are you spending in the bathroom, anyway? The location is pretty residential, but still within walking distance of the shops in Georgetown and, even closer, a restaurant called Thai Coast that we could not help but notice was advertising 50 cent tacos and $1.95 Yuenglings. As the others were mentioning, I believe we found the Verlaine of DC. Overall, I enjoyed my stay, and the staff was all very helpful and friendly. At $99 per night, we had NO idea what to expect. I mean, honestly, pictures on a website can only show so much. Thankfully, unlike some other places that can advertise an Aston Martin and end up delivering a Pinto, River Inn did not deceive, and instead delivered a reliable, clean, and hospitable roof over our heads and homebase for our stuffs during our little DC adventure. read more

4 Stars for a non Chain Hotel. Tired of Hilton's, Marriott's, and the like? Stay here! I found the pricing to be considerably better than anything else, and the size- for a DC hotel room? ENORMOUS! The bed was super comfy, air conditioning worked great (not my typical experience in DC) and the staff was something to write home about. Conveniently located close to 2 quick marts and a Trader Joes, you can easily pick up items to stock your kitchenette in no time. While not on a main drag (HEAVENLY for sleeping purposes), cabs hang out in front, I had no problems catching a ride whenever I needed. It is also in extremely close proximity to the Kennedy center, so you could easily walk. My only issue? Well, it is because of me! I tripped every single time I walked into my room, missing the step up. I also stubbed my toe on the ledge into the bathroom- about 15 times during my 4 day stay. I less than gracefully launched myself into the kitchenette every morning on my way to start the coffee pot. Just watch where you are walking- or remember that there are ledges. If you have any grace in movement you will be fine. Otherwise, if you are like me, well, you will wake up quicker! read more
