The location is excellent--just about 6 minutes from the University of Virginia, making it a convenient home base for exploring the area. The front desk staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming from check-in to check-out. The lobby and sitting area are attractive, comfortable, and inviting. Our room was clean and comfortable. While it wasn't luxurious or overly fancy, it had everything we needed for a relaxing stay. One of the highlights was the complimentary breakfast. There was a great variety of options, including two types of scrambled eggs (plain and cheese with peppers), bacon, sausage, buttermilk biscuits, cereal, coffee, tea, and juice. Everything was well stocked and made for a great start to the day. The indoor pool was unfortunately under repair during our visit, but it looked like it will be a really nice amenity once the work is completed. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would definitely choose the English Inn again the next time we're in the Charlottesville area.

I left a message and attempted to call severe times to cancel. Once I was able to contact the hotel I was told there will be no refund and they were not helpful at all with this situation. Jenna and Cecilia kept falling back on a 30 day cancellation policy during football weekends. When I asked to speak with the manager Jermaine I was told I could if I didn't mind holding while he checked in on all the rooms in the hotel. Every other Hotel I needed to call so far , had no problem with cancellation under the circumstances . Very disappointed . The hotel kept my money and will now probably get double for a late booking for the suite I was going to stay in . If I could leave no stars I would .

Several of the amenities were not available, the property was run down and dirty. After we arrived at the Glade cabin we walked down the property to see what it had to offer. We noticed our cabin did not have a washer and dryer in it as described and didn'tfind the communal area laundry to use. There was no map provided and no signage to guide what areas were private and for public use. We came upon the wood burning sauna and I gasped when i opened the door. It was run down, super rustic and it honestly reminded me of a crematorium. Next to that was the cool dip pool which was not in working order and not listed as that on the rental description. Several reviews seem like the pool hasnt been in use for a few years. We then walked up to the "castle" on a narrow foot bridge and at the top were what seemed to be two drunk men who claimed they lived there. They were blocking the walkway, and to get around them was awkward. They asked us how we found this place and why we were there. Something didn't sit right with that encounter, so we continued walking instead of going inside to see the communal area. We went back to our cabin and never used the rest of the property after that. It did not seem eco friendly either. The property seems to be in a constant state of construction that other things get overlooked and unkempt. The glade cabin was just ok. It was secluded which was a plus. It seemed clean however there was a strong musty smell throughout. No cleaning supplies offered. The cabin had an ant problem inside and a bee problem outside of the entry doors. Both doors were hard to lock from inside. The main door leading to the kitchen had quite a large gap between it and the frame causing an easy way for insects to get in. The keypad was also not working properly and had a constant noise coming from it which was annoying while trying to sleep. The furniture was old and not comfortable. It did have good wifi and was able to stream on the TV. The lightning was very dim inside, and although it had a lot of lights it was still dark. Im not sure how this property keeps getting good reviews, but i did find quite a few similar to mine. On TripAdvisor there is also mention of this being a nudist camp which was not mentioned in any of the rental descriptions. That, and the non working pool and sauna alone would have made me not book in the first place. Again misleading and unsettling. It is close to the national park which is why we originally chose this place. We spent as much time away from it as possible and only returned to sleep. We did not once see any employees or property managers. I would caution anyone to rethink booking here.

There's truly something for everyone, whether you're looking to relax or explore. We loved the dry sauna and the jacuzzi tub in our room, and spent our evenings cooking, sitting by the fire, and playing records. It was the perfect mix of cozy and fun. The property also has a hot tub, a cold plunge, and dry sauna and you can books massages, cooking classes and yoga classes on the property! So many other unique touches throughout -- you can really feel how much thought has gone into creating a serene and welcoming space. You can do as much or as little as you want here, and that flexibility makes it feel like your retreat. Can't recommend it enough. I am already dreaming about our next stay later this year!

My…read morewife and I had booked a 4-night stay over the 4th of July weekend (total cost over $1,000) but we checked out 2 nights early because of the state of the property. If you're looking for a fun, comfortable, outdoorsy stay in the area, check out the Postcard Cabins instead! THE GOOD: The property is located in a beautiful area. Views are great. I really like the food at Bearr Appetit restaurant -- kudos to the chef! THE BAD: Customer service is poor. I get the impression management must have simply stopped caring at some point. Example 1: I tried contacting the property multiple times before our reservation. Half the time, nobody answered the phone. I left a voicemail once and nobody responded. The two times someone answered, they promised to call me back with an answer to my question, but never did. Example 2: The morning of July 4, only one server showed up on time for her shift at Bearr Appetit. The poor girl was HUSTLING to keep up with multiple tables, indoors and outdoors, in hot and humid weather. I'm standing alone at the host stand waiting to be seated for about 5 minutes. A manager (owner?) is sitting at the cash register counting the money. Finally the manager/owner stands up, starts heading the the kitchen, sees me, and asks, "Are you waiting to be seated?" I say yes. She POINTS AT THE POOR WAITRESS who's struggling to keep up and says, "She'll be right with you." Then proceeds into the kitchen. Finally I asked the waitress if I should seat myself, which she appreciated and agreed to. Example 3: Upon departing 2 nights early due to the condition of the property (discussed below), my wife wrote an email explaining the issues and asking if they'd refund one night as a compromise. It's been a week now and we're starting to doubt we'll ever get so much as an acknowledgement. THE UGLY: My wife and I stayed with our dog in the Speckled Owl cabin. It's a good sized, secluded property, but it soon became clear to us that management puts minimal effort into maintaining it. Example 1: The first thing we noticed was that the ground floor was COVERED IN DEAD MILLIPEDES. We immediately called maintenance, who promptly came to vacuum them up. But in less than 24 hours, the floor was COVERED IN LIVING MILLIPEDES. This made the first floor basically unusable to us. If we needed something from the kitchen we had to tiptoe around the bugs. By Day 2, the millipedes were migrating upstairs to the bedroom. (That's when my wife decided we needed to go.) Example 2: Enormous cobwebs everywhere, inside and outside. Example 3: Patio and terrace furniture was filthy and disgusting. Bird poop and other crap all over the chairs and tables. Example 4: Linens and towels were old and worn to the point that we wondered how clean they were. Example 5: The mattress was awful. You can feel the the springs and if one person moves, everyone moves. Bottom line, we were extremely disappointed in Lydia Mountain Lodge & Cabins. We feel there's a lot of potential to make this into a special place given the wonderful location, but that the current ownership/management has no real interest in the guest experience.

We did enjoy the Massanutten water park and the ice skating ring in Bridgewater for a new year eve with the kids! The Inn is a nice old house that has a lot of charme with the cracking floors. The owner is a very nice and friendly person. She made us some very good and filling home made breakfasts (except for the pancakes.... we did not found to our taste). We did also really appreciate the hot tube in the evening after our hike in the cold air of the mountains. The lower rating of 4 stars will be only for the fact we thought the place was not that clean : dust but hardwood floor not forgiving and bed sheets not pristine clean. Few items in china were not clean by previous user. Most certainly due to the fact that this is an old house with a lot of stuff around and tough to maintain alone? Won t blame her for that so much.
