I know what you're thinking: How good could a $13 haircut possibly be? Well, I just got one, and, speaking as someone who usually shells out $50+ in salons downtown, pretty damn good! Actually, it's probably the best haircut I've ever had. I've wanted this particular cut (a sort of messy a-line bob) for a while now, but have been hesitant about trying it again. The last stylist I went to didn't listen to me at all and totally botched it (I got my $50 back, thank you very much). I had almost given up, but, at the recommendation of my best friend, decided to give Kim a try. So glad I did! Not only is she ridiculously nice, but she really listens. I've never liked styling my hair (it's very straight and never does anything I tell it to), plus I just had a baby and barely have time to take a shower, let alone blow dry. I always tell stylists that I don't like to fuss with my hair, and they ALWAYS insist upon fussing with my hair and showing me how "easy" it is to do it myself. I walk out depressed knowing my hair will never look that good again. I told Kim I wanted this cut, but didn't want to have to style it... is that even possible? Sure! she said, and proceeded to cut my hair with incredible speed and precision (à la Edward Scissorhands). In the end, it was exactly what I wanted. No styling necessary. It even had some volume, and she didn't even attempt to blow dry it! A super cute, zero maintenance hair cut for $13. How awesome is that?! read more

I visited again because this was a nice place. I asked for a similar style but with more layers. This time she took a bit more time which I appreciated because of more layering. I think she did a better job this time and like last time, she was nice and kind. read more

Kim taught me a lot about my hair needs that other hairdressers haven't. She did an amazing job of cutting it how I like it while also offering advice for my hair type and how to better improve it. This place is honestly the best kept secret, ever! Kim was friendly, efficient, and talented! She gave me an excellent consultation and it is obvious that she is skilled with 20+ years of experience in cutting hair. I had a specific idea of what I wanted for a haircut, and Kim was able to create the exact look that I wanted! We had a great conversation about hair health and she gave me great tips about keeping my hair healthy and shiny. I was in and out in 30 minutes, while paying only 1/3 of what a typical women's hair cut would cost!! Overall, I was very impressed. If you are looking for a lengthy hair cut with a wash, blow out, and the bells&whistles, this may not be the place for you. Kim is so warmly, genuinely friendly! She answered the phone "Hi Sharon!" as if I was her sister calling. I only get my hair cut every few years so it's just her being happy - I don't expect her to remember me (I assumed she used caller ID)- but she always asks how I've been, and is interested in the answer. My cut is very simple - just a trim, all one length- but she also cuts my bestie's hair, which is short and curly and she does a great job with her, too. 10/10 for a fun, funny 20 min with Kim and her infectious laugh! read more

I will never ever ever ever ever ever go back there. Like I said she messed up my perm and gave me a perm rather than a body wave. Major language barrier and felt she did not care at all that my hair needed help, Horrible horrible place. Bad luck with three different salons in the Portland area. My normal one in Forest Grove went out of business and that is why I had to find a new one. From now on I need to find someone who knows how to communicate with me on a normal level and cares. Kim did not care at all and said my hair was too fine to do a body wave and that my hair was uneven and colored wrong. Help!!!! I need a new stylist that cares and understands me. What my hair looks like today on 5/23/2022 which is 2 weeks later is nothing but a pile of fuzz. I tried to put it up in combs and it looks worse. I used barrettes and it looks worse. Please people who are out there and need your hair done do not go there. She does not know what she is doing. I hate my hair and nothing can be done to fix it. I even tried curling it this morning and going to see my friend in FG close to where my former stylist was that went out of business and my hair looked worse a month later. Rolling it in pink rollers did nothing at all and the curling iron did nothing at all and caused it to look worse and worse. I will never ever never ever never ever never ever go back to this lady. I need someone who cares and speaks good English. Please people never ever never ever go there unless you want to pay a lot and get nothing. I paid with a tip $135 and my hair looks very very bad. If I could give zero stars I would ! My sister was looking forward to a new hair cut and was so persistent in showing a reference photo and physically showing With her hands the length she wanted before the haircut. Kim not only decided to take in walk in clients before someone who made an appointment but also did not listen at all to the reference photo shown and cut my sisters hair to her chin when she asked for shoulder length. This is not a salon that will make you feel good about your hair or confident whatsoever. Kim decided to cut my sisters hair the way she herself wanted instead of listening to what my sister communicated as well as my mother. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY HERE! read more

After waiting a year for a haircut because I hate the ordeal so much, I stumbled upon this little gem. I have very fine, oily hair and pretty much hate it. I left the salon feeling pretty for $15. The atmosphere was much nicer than a Great Clips. I really liked the older woman, presumably "Kim" who cut my hair. Yes, she asked me to part my own hair with a comb. No, I'm not above doing that when I'm paying $15 for a hair cut. (Or really any time to be honest...) Kim seemed to be very knowledgeable about my hair type and did the best she could with my hair, which my husband refers to as "fairy hair" because of how fine and wispy it is. I will definitely be returning in a couple months for a trim. read more

I walked out of here with a decent hair cut (got bangs and took off about 5 inches) but getting to that point was a challenge. It is not worth the deal. I walked in and was greeted by a very friendly woman who directed me to a selection of books and asked me to choose a style (this was easy, i knew what I wanted). She then proceeded to take me to the sink for the hair washing (adds $5.00 to the haircut). Fine so far. Then, she sent me to a chair where I was introduced to another woman, who would turn out to be my 'stylist'. First, she gave me a comb and said "part your hair". I asked her to repeat it, because typically going to a salon means that someone does this for you (otherwise, i would have cut it in my home bathroom with ikea scissors). She said, "What side do you part your hair on? Do it with this comb". Honestly, I was not going to do this. So I said, "I part it around here" and gave her the comb back. Flash forward to about 35 minutes later, I've just closed my eyes for a little rest, and read a bit of a magazine (during the cut). She was prepared to send me a away with wet hair, so I asked her to dry it. She dried it half way. Seeing and feeling that is was still damp, I asked her if she could continue drying it. She wasn't happy about it, but she continued. When finished (hair was still a little damp) I realized she was not going to dry it anymore. I should have picked up the blow dryer and continued myself, but the three other folks working there had been staring at me the whole time, and I was feeling uncomfortable and ready to go. Naturally, I run my hands through my hair, moving it around (and changing the part). When the woman working at the counter sees this, she starts screaming (in a language i don't understand) at the woman who cut my hair. Turns out, my stylist had cut my hair parted to the side (instead of down the middle), so one side was about 2 inches shorter than the other. Mortified (how did I not know she was cutting it wrong?) they made me sit down again, and the two women were yelling at each other, using my hair as the means to get their points across to each other. The friendly, seemingly more experienced stylist, finished my cut. Like I said earlier, it came out decent. But I would never, ever go through this experience again. read more

You get what you pay is so about this salon. I just tried too hard to do everything local. But never again I will go back to my salon in the city where they start with hair wash and end with styling. These people who call themselves hair stylist had never been to good salon. So they have absolutely no idea what's wrong with them. Even the way the hold tools is so much unprofessional. Doesn't matter how cheap... It's just a waste of time. I believe that you CANNOT tell if your work is good if you don't style the hair you just cut. The person who cut my hair sprayed water all over and sliced/ cut and then let me air dry without brushing my hair! Good that I do it in the evening and just go home to sleep. I have been going to this salon for a couple of years and have been very happy with both Kim and Tina who have cut my hair. They both are better than the stylists at Edward Wadsworth who are more expensive and less caring. I'm thrilled with my hair cuts and how detailed they are. The lady was sweet. I have a medium length hair (Blunt cut, straight across) and I wanted to get rid of my Blunt cut. I decided to get a bob like style where the back was shorter than the front. I showed her a picture and that's what she did. She left the back short and front long! She made it worse! Now it looks like my hair is uneven at the back. Like seriously, the back was short and the front was long she never made an effort to make it look good. And it still looks like a blunt cut! OMG! I wish I never got a cut! UGH. I've been going to Kim's hair salon for all of my haircuts & never once have I been unsatisfied with the aftermath. The price was great as well for a simple haircut. However the last time I went (about a week ish ago), I went in just for thinning. I was charged the same price as a haircut when the hair stylist barely thinned my hair? You call thinning the ends of my hair actual thinning & the price was the same as a haircut? Kim's hair salon was good years ago but recently, there's been a slight change in their work... I was a customer of them for more than a year. They kept changing their hair stylist often(or employees leave this place?). I stopped going there after I had to sit with a new hair stylist every 3/4 months. Every time you go, you have to explain it from the beginning which is irritating. Last time the owner did my hair with no good finishing. She took 10mins max to finish my hair. She didn't do a good job on the sides. I also noticed they somehow changed their Yelp account. Yesterday I went to go get my hair cut here. I read the reviews and saw good ones and very few bad ones. So thinking I would get a good hair cut here, I went and asked for a shoulders hair cut, even showed a picture of what I wanted. My sister told me kim did a good job on her hair, the one cutting my hair wasnt kim. She gave me on my first layer a bob then cut everything on top longer from the bottom.
