I was referred to Kim's Tailor Bridal & Formal for my rehearsal dinner dress and had one of the most stressful and unprofessional experiences of my entire wedding planning process. After being fitted and quoted a price, the owner asked me to return for a refitting because the original fitting was "done incorrectly." When my mother and I arrived, the shop could not find my dress. For over ten minutes they repeatedly asked what color it was and whether I was even sure I left it there. It was terrifying, as the dress is expensive, sentimental, and not replaceable. Eventually it was found. When I expressed concern about whether my dress would be kept safe, the owner told us to leave and refused to work with us. I later returned, apologized, and tried to move forward, and she then claimed she was "too busy" and refused service again despite previously confirming availability. This shop mishandled my property, caused extreme stress, and showed zero professionalism with a bride. If you value your dress, your time, and your sanity, go literally anywhere else. read more

Altered my 25 yr old dress that was too tight around the chest and rib cage. The formal dress was beautiful and I really wanted to wear it again. She added a soft corset in the back that laced up and it looks amazing!!! Fits great now. Do yourself a favor and don't get rid of your fancy dresses because it is too tight. Kim does amazing work. Prior to my visit, I called and spoke with a female staff member on 10/24/24 who was pleasant and told me to come into the shop. However, upon my arrival, I encountered a different experience. The same female staff member I interacted with by phone was not welcoming; she did not greet me or make eye contact, and she remained seated without approaching me to understand my needs. When I mentioned the modifications I wanted for my garments after trying them on, I felt that she was dismissive and rushed me. I asked a question regarding the alterations, and her response was unexpectedly frustrated; she exclaimed "OMG" and rolled her eyes, which left me feeling quite taken aback. It seemed as though she was not interested in assisting me, which was disappointing. She was quite LAZY and HOSTILE. Additionally, I noticed that this female staff member was unfamiliar to me, as I usually see different lady and man during my visits in the morning. Unfortunately, she did not provide her name, but I can describe her as wearing glasses, a beige vest, and a green top, with long dark hair tied back in a loose ponytail. I suspect that she was working there ILLEGALLY. The environment there has become so messy and chaotic and you never know who you'll see anymore. It is UNORGANIZED and chaotic which means that your item could get LOST. It's also unclean. I suggest that you find another shop unless you want risk getting your item lost! Kim, the owner of this establishment, is literally the best tailor hands down. I bought my bridal gown from a well-known business and had alterations done through them, trusting them since it came from their business. When I received my alterations, I was unhappy and they said there wasn't much that could be done for the dress to look how I wanted it to (I have an hourglass figure and needed the dress to hug me in the right areas). I literally bought an outfit to change out of because I didn't love my dress anymore. My sister told me about Kim and her shop. I stopped by with my dress asking if anything could be done, feeling pretty unhopeful after my first alterations. She saw the exact areas of concern and pinned everything down exactly how I imagined my dress to be on my wedding day. I was very lucky because she had a quick turn around time for me. I cried. My hopes were low for the quick turnaround we needed during the very busy prom season! They were kind, courteous, and concise about pricing/and accommodating our needs. They laid out appropriate expectations with regard to their time constraints and gave us prices for the one alternation they guaranteed having time to do and a 2nd price estimate in the event they were able to complete the second alterations needed to shorten the dress. I made an appointment to have measurements done for my Wedding Dress. My dress maker provided a listing of 16 needed measurements. When I showed up for our appointment, she seemed very rushed, like she didn't want to or have time to deal with me. I she said the measurements were too complicated and she did not want to do them. All she wanted to do were the basic measurements of bust, waist, hips and arms. No dress maker will make a Wedding Dress based on the measurements she wanted to take. So I guess she isn't a tailor. A tailor should easily be able to take the following measurements, and these were the ones I needed for my dress: Bust, Upper Bust, Lower Bust, Waist, Hip, Should to Bust, Shoulder to Waist (front), Shoulder to Waist (back), Waist to Hem, Hollow to Hem, Arms Eye, Upper Arm's Length, Shoulder to Shoulder, Bicep, Under Arm's Length and Sleeve Length. So, since taking these measurements was clearly over her head, I went to another tailor, who easily took the measurements in 15 minutes. I will definitely discourage anyone for doing business with her, but maybe she has so much, she didn't care. She was rude and inconsiderate and wasted my time. read more

I purchased my wedding dress from a local bridal shop (NYB&G) and paid ~$400 for alterations. Their in-house alterations seemed very rushed and overall I wasn't super thrilled with it, but didn't have much time to have anything else done to my dress. I finally broke down one day because I was nervous about my deep v neckline and the sloppy way my dress was fitting. I stopped by Kim's and she immediately made me feel much better! I left my dress there, came back the next week, and it was PERFECT. She not only fixed the fit in the chest, but she also noticed a few other small lumps and bumps and weird stitchings and fixed them as well. She is SO friendly and is an amazing tailor. Kim is extraordinarily talented! She designed a special pillow made from my wedding dress for my daughter when she got married, along with a garter made from a family heirloom fabric. She did a fabulous job altering my mother of the bride dress and made a lovely shawl from the excess fabric of the dress. Kim is extremely talented and most pleasant to work with. Has anyone been able to get in touch with the owner of this shop? She has my wedding dress and I have tried calling, leaving voicemails, I went to the store front and saw that she had a sign on her door saying she was closed due to covid, and an alternate phone number was provided and the sign said emergency pickups could be arranged, but no one is answering my calls or texts at the number provided. I have been having Kim - exclusively - do my alterations for nearly 20 years, from special occasion dresses to work clothes to jogger pants, she can do it all and do it perfectly. She has an impeccable eye for detail and I appreciate how she can look at a garment and see its potential. For example, I bought a dress because I loved the print and the funkiness of the dress, but there was just too much material (in other words, it was overwhelming). She took one look at it and suggested shortening the dress, fitting the waist, and removing the sleeves to use the material as the new hem - genius! It turned out so cute! read more

I always have a great experience with Kim. Her shop is always so clean, organized and smells great. Went today to drop off clothes and she even had a bouquet of fresh flowers that smelled amazing. Kim does all the work herself and has relocated and can be found off of Raven Ridge Road. Your GPS may take you to another shop near hers but always look for Kim's friendly and smiling face to great you and you will then know you are in the right shop. Kim is not only the owner but also does all the work herself. I'm only giving 4 stars because my dress wasn't ready when she said it would be....it was ready 30 mins later. The quality of Kim's work was outstanding. I needed a bridesmaid dress altered all kinds of ways and she was able to accommodate my needs and you can't tell that it's been greatly altered at all. What really will make me come back for all my altering needs is how genuinely nice and family oriented she was when I came with my very active 2 year old daughter. This place is great! read more

I can't tell you how nervous that lady made me with my wedding dress. They weren't attentive with me, distracted with others in the store. She spent all of 4 minutes on my dress while I tried it on. She asked me if I wanted to hack off some of the back as well to get rid of all the damage it had going on. She made me feel so horrible about my wedding dress. When I didn't understand something, instead of explaining, she laughed in my face for a long time and shook her head and said she's been doing this for 30 years!!! And still didn't explain why she made the hem super long. She didn't take her time at all. Totally the mcDonalds of tailors. she was also wrong about putting water on silk. No. You don't do that. It damages it. I went to lees tailor instead and she spent 43 minutes on my dress. Yep! Night and day. They were so responsible and patient and explained things to me. (When I left Kim's they didn't even say goodbye to me. No words at all). read more

I used to sew and know good tailoring. This is the best place to go in the Triangle. The other places I tried that were much cheaper ruined suits and clothes that cost me hundreds of dollars. Kim has never failed me in the nine years I have used her. Basic alterations you can find somewhere else, for sure, but tailoring is her specialty. She knows how clothes hang and exactly how they should look on a body. If it won't work, she will tell you that, too. She continues to be an owner-run shop and does all the work herself. read more

I had a great experience using Kim's Tailor and will definitely use them again. I recently had a maxi dress hemmed, and my husband brought in a pair of jeans that needed to be taken in. The people who work there are extremely friendly and professional. My dress came out great as did my husband's pants (they came out exactly how he wanted them). Not only was everything done on the day they said it would be done, but I also received a text message that morning telling me that the items were done and ready for pick up. I was really disappointed with my experience here. Like the previous reviewer said, my dresses weren't ready when she said they would be. I asked for relatively simple alterations - taking up the shoulders and shortening the hem on both dresses. I tried to pick them up 9 days later and had to send my boyfriend back to pick them up later in the day because I was unable todo so. That also meant that I couldn't try them on, so I discovered that the shoulders on one dress had not been taken up enough. It was incredibly expensive for a job that was not done on time or done completely. read more

AWESOME tailor shop! I dropped some shorts off at 12:00 pm, to be hemmed, and requested same day service, as my son needed them for work on the following day. They promised them to me by 5:00 pm, and actually called me at 3:00 pm to say they were ready! A 3 hour turnaround time, and they had several other customers in their shop at the same time. The shorts look great and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this business!! read more

Heard a great review of this place from a picky friend so I decided to try it. Went there for a very simple alteration of a jacket, at this time (around noon) Kim was not there. She is the only one capable of doing fittings for the alterations. The only person there kept the jacket and asked me to come in later when Kim would be back from her errand, she estimated 30 more minutes. I went back 1.5hours later and Kim was still not there. This time the woman there said she would call me when Kim got back to the store. I have yet to recieve a call. They close at 6pm, it is currently 5:30 and I just called the store to see if Kim is back, no one answered their phone and there is no way to leave a message. If the only person capable of alterations is going to be leaving the store for hours, a second tailor should be hired! Very frustrated with my experience so far, will most likely be taking my business elsewhere. read more
