I feel compelled to give a warning based on my experience. It took more than two months for him to complete simple alterations. He lost one of the clothing items I brought in and never took responsibility for it. I spent nearly $1,000 and have a screenshot clearly showing that my balance was marked as "paid," yet he later claimed I owed an additional $80. To make matters worse, some of the garments were not altered at all. Throughout the process, he was disorganized, unprofessional, and rude. Do NOT risk it here. My fiance spent over $200 dollars to have several suits and shirts NOT actually tailored. He drove over there many times before it was all finished. There was no communication from the owner that his items were not yet finished. Even when he would call to confirm in advance, he would show up to find it's not ready. Endless broken promises and no offer to refund or discount the charges. Even when the owner claimed all the work was done, and we had all the items back, there are items that have not been touched or altered. He has the same style shirt in different colors, so it's clear which ones were tailored and which ones were not. read more

Its a small alteration shop run by a couple. They do decent job. Only thing I really hate about their service is that wife does tries not to give you estimate no matter what. I would like to get an idea before I decide wether its worth it for me to do it or not. And her price is very inconsistent. I had few pieces that she wouldnt give me an estimate, she made it sound like it was not going to be too expensive so I left it there and I did ended up paying way more than I have anticipated. If it was going to cost me that much, it was not worth it for me. I specially asked her to call me before she starts the job, once she figures out how much she was going to charge me. She never did. Well.. if you ever go there, I suggest that you make sure that she tells you how much it's going to cost you. She could charge you $10, then she can also charge you $15 for the same hemming next time. read more

Mr. Young Kim is a gem! I have finally found a true tailor and craftsman. His tailor shop is easy to find and there is ample off street (and free) parking outside his store. His store is right off the PCH and within a few miles immediately south of LAX. When I'm in the vicinity, I make sure to save up my slacks, jeans & suits that require alteration. His prices are über reasonable. He will accommodate your timeline too. Mr. Kim is an old school tailor. Just check how he stitches your clothes. Don't be fooled by his humble & kind demeanor. Mr. Kim is a true professional tailor! Over the years I've taken many slacks, pants, skirts and jackets to him when needed to be shorten, taken in or remodeled in some way. He always knows what to do, does it perfectly and it's always ready on time. I usually pay with a credit card but have learned to bring money with me before I pick up my clothes from Kim's tailor shop if I know the price will be under $20. He only accepts credit cards for work that is priced over $20. I am grateful that I live a few short miles from his shop. His place is always clean, neat and well organized. A friend referred me to Kim's Tailor when I was looking for somewhere to alter my wedding dress. I tried him out with altering the straps of two sundresses, and he did a great job. He seemed precise and knowledgeable. I knew it was a big risk trying him for wedding dress alterations, but I didn't have anywhere else to go (I usually go to Coco's Alterations, but I didn't trust her with a wedding dress). Pros: Mr. Kim was extremely reasonable. He only charged me $140 to alter my entire wedding dress. Coco's Alterations in Redondo Beach was going to charge me $500. CONS: At times, I could be frustrated with the language barrier, and I wouldn't necessarily suggest him for a wedding dress. I'm not sure if he didn't understand what we were asking for when we asked for a bustle, or if he didn't know how to do one, but he did not sew a bustle for my dress. I was also frustrated because I felt that he had hemmed one part of my dress shorter than the rest, and when I asked for the lace he cut off so we could add it back on, he told me he threw it all away. I felt he should have kept the lace until the job was completely done, in case of errors. Fortunately, in the end, the dress was long enough so that no one could see if the hem was uneven. Summary: I would return to Mr. Kim for most alterations, but I don't think I would refer him for a wedding dress. read more

Be sure you do some comparison shopping...as they completely ripped off my 18 year old daughter when he charged her $80 for simple prom dress alterations. It needed a slight tuck in the bust and back...that's it! In my opinion it should have been hemmed but they didn't recommend it to her. I was not available to go that day as they close at 6 pm and I work on the other side of town..couldn't get there in time. Terribly expensive!!! I had a holiday party on a saturday and it was already wednesday and I had not taken my garment for alterations. But luckily I came across Kim's tailors. Mr. Kim was very helpful, giving me advice on the alteration ideas I had in mind. He was even able to have it done before the event. The only downside was that he does not answer the phone. I called twice before taking my garment in with no answer but I went in anyway because I needed a speedy alteration. I also made a call to him to see if my garment was finished but still no answer. So don't be discouraged if there is no answer he is busy working but is definitely there during the posted business hours. I needed 6 patches transferred from one cub scout shirt to another. For that service, I was surprised to get a expensive $40 quote. In addition to the high amount Mr. Kim told me that the owner, "MR.PARK" requests that all cub scout and girl scout patch transfers be paid in cash. I asked why that was since credit card signs were clearly placed on the counter and accepted. Why were cub scouts and girls scouts being singled out? He said "I'm not the owner. Mr. Park is the owner and I just follow his rule". Given that the store name is Kim's Tailor, and there is a family picture of the counter that looked just like the man that was speaking to me, I have a strange suspicion I was being lied to. I will not visit this establishment again. They charge outrageous prices and given the lying and request for a cash payment, I wonder what kind of business they are running. read more

The worst. Lost one of my garments. The pants were done too short, basically can throw them away. And also we found out from one of our neighbors he doesn't do most of the work himself but sends it to a cheap place downtown where they use people desperate for work and pay them very little. When I wasn't happy with the results I was told "it's not his job" and he literally walked away from me. I asked for some money back because I would need to go somewhere else to alter and he refused!
