Thien is a nice old Asian man and is a class act. He's been in business since 1977 and in the exact same retail spot for the last 45+ years. That's pretty impressive. He has a constant stream of customers coming in for alterations and is very reasonably priced. When you walk in, there are clothes everywhere so you know he's busy and knows what he's doing. I was surprised that he remembers clients but he remembered my wife's dress. Finding someone to do alterations is always a pain in the butt because prices and quality varies so much. if i could rate this place 0 stars i would. i took in 2 pairs of jeans for zipper replacement because the zippers had broke off. they took an entire MONTH to finish them. they left threads all over, the stitching is absolutely atrocious it looks like a 10 year old did it. that's not even the worst part! they sowed my pocket into the zipper so i had to CUT MY POCKET to be able to wear my jeans and after wearing them once THE ZIPPER BROKE AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!! that's the whole point of me bringing them here. i'm never going back here again and i will be asking for a full refund this is a terrible business read more

I needed to get a bridesmaid dress tailored (hem was too long, lots of layers) and found myself here thanks to Yelp. He did an excellent job with the dress and I've brought several random things for him to fix. Notably, I had a hiking backpack that was falling apart and he was able to repair it. The prices are reasonable and you get a quote on the spot. I think my bridesmaid dress tailoring was about $45-50? and the random smaller things here and there was about $10 or so? Maybe less. I'm not really sure how much he charges by piece because I usually bring several things and he gives me 1 price. There is a dressing room so you can change into your item and he will come to take measurements for the job. Cash only and you pay when you pick up. He has always quoted me about a 1 week turnaround time and when I've asked for things to be done a little quicker (like if I can get it back in 6 days vs 7), he usually obliges. The store does have limited hours and he also takes chunks of time off. If it is something important that is deadline driven, I would have a backup plan just in case and not procrastinate. Mister Thien does phenomenal tailoring. Period. The fact that he's super nice, gracious and possesses an amazing memory adds to the experience. So far he's taking in and given new life to my old Lululemon pants that were too big after I lost weight. He's also taken in a made to order tuxedo jacket as well as an off the shelf white dinner jacket that the store tailor previously proclaimed could not be taken in further, and instead, Thien's expert tailoring made this jacket finally fit like my jackets that were made up order. His pricing are well below market, especially given I'd pay more for his superior tailoring. About the only negatives are 1) takes at least a week for any tailoring, large or small 2) restroom is not the most clean but neither of these issues are relevant to the final results you'll be amazed by. Full disclosure: I don't get a lot of things tailored or altered. I usually don't buy them if they require extra work. But then I found this dress, and I had to have it. Problem: I'm not 7 feet tall. Solution: I got it hemmed. For FIFTEEN dollars! The hem doesn't even look like it's been touched, and it only cost me $15. Pretty disappointed with my trip to Thien. My fiancé took in his suit to get tailored and had great results. My maid of honor took her dress in to Thien as well to get her bridesmaid dress hemmed and taken in. Both times they were super happy with their results. With that being said, I brought in my wedding dress to be taken in as well. I brought it in on a Thursday and Thien added pins to show where it would be needed. He said it would be ready by Sunday and would only be $40. Sounded like a great deal to me. I came on Sunday a little after opening and he was swamped. 3 customers before me and 5 lines up after me. When it was my turn to try on my dress I noticed that it felt exactly the same as it did when I dropped it off. He asked if I was ready so he can check his work, to which I said yes. He immediately said "see I take in the sides, much better" and stepped out immediately to start helping the next customer. I was still unsure but paid him and went on my way. I opened up my garment bag when I came home later that evening and noticed a very significant stain that looks like 3 dirty fingers rubbed on the side. I also looked inside the dress to check if the inseam was altered at all and it looks exactly the same as how it did when it was delivered! I even still could see the points where he poked it with the pins untouched. I knew I noticed he never even altered it! I'm beyond frustrated because my wedding is this Friday. I now have to spend $130 to dry clean a dress that I shouldn't need to, and have it a size too big since he's only open on Thursday-Sunday. You get what you pay for- having more work than you started with and almost $200 down the drain for no reason. read more
