The meat was dry, the carrots weren't bland and the bread was hard with butter just slapped on it, a super sad bahn mi. To accompany my meal I got a fruit tea to drink and i was not a fan. The drink tasted like melted candy and/or a sweetened type of medicine. The drink and bahn mi were $5 each and for $10 you can get a better meal else where. I have been here before, I recently went to get some tapioca and some calamari. They have increased the prices of the calamari they now charge $6. Which I understand prices go up, I purchased two calamari's and when I asked for some lemon for the calamari she informed me that it was .54 for some lemon I'm Sure it wasn't going to be a whole lemon given to me! I told her never mind. I decided to complain about the extra charge for a pice of lemon for the $12 calamari that I spend on. They just informed me their prices went up and they have it posted in their location, and they simply told me they have signs, and they charge for the lemon. I like coming here when I'm not in the heart of Chinatown, which is nice since you get to avoid most of the traffic and the horrendous drivers... The owners are really nice and they're really sweet to talk to. They have really good milk tea and their other smoothies are really creamy and rich as well. I love getting their avocado smoothie because it's not too sweet. The place is very loungy and has a nice ambiance. There are plenty of tables and couches to sit at. Supposedly this place is really popular. It's interesting they have "Basil Seeds" as a digestive for the drinks. It's slimy and reminds of the seed from Dragon Fruit. I've been having withdrawals ever since the Wilcrest location closed down, so I finally decided to suck it up and come to this location. The drinks my boyfriend and I always get - cream green tea blended and honeydew smoothie - tasted just like the other location! Thank god. The variety is huge. The fruits are all fresh. My sister ordered the fried calamari. It smelled like cinnamon but she tried one anyway & it indeed had cinnamon. We went inside with nice faces & calm attitudes and she basically explained that it smells & tastes like cinnamon & she doesn't like it. Kim's Tea House is a pretty interesting place located and kinda lost in a strip center full of shops. The food and drinks at Kim's Tea House are pretty good tasting, but overall standard. One thing that does stand out about this place is the decor. Most noticeably is it's red walls with a many different posters/hanging items and random nicknacks hanging around. Theres also a pretty elaborate fish tank too. The place overall is pretty comfortable physically, but it can get pretty loud with its background music and especially with the blender blaring in the back ground. I ordered a Mango Green Tea and told them not to make it sweet. When it came out, I took a sip of it and told the lady at the counter that it was sweet. She then said " Its from the concentrate" as if I should have known that, therefore rationalizing that despite me saying "no sweet", I should accept the fact that its gonna be sweet regardless what I say. I would have appreciated if they would have told me when I ordered it that it will still be sweet. Its pretty much like making a chocolate cake, but saying that its not sweet because you didn't add any extra sugar in it. It just doesn't make sense. They should at least educated me before I paid. The lady did take the drink back, dilute it with more of the green tea so the sweetness is less. So credit for her doing that. Because of her effort I took the tea without much hassle. I actually did appreciate it. I gave it 3 stars not because I " subtracted 2 stars" but more like this joint is your average place to get tea. Its good, but its not great enough to stand out among the plethora of other tea shops. Kim's Tea House is a good place to grab a drink and hang out, but it would definitely be too loud for me to hunker down and study. Good place to chill. Lesson learned: Non sweet drinks are still sweet. read more

This is really really yummy! I got the lychee green tea with mango jelly. I called and asked if there was gelatin in the jelly beforehand and they told me there wasn't any in there so that's a plus! My younger brother said it's "bussin bussin" My cousin and sister said the boba was super top notch. I don't taste my drink in the cafe. I drink it in the car. So when I got super hard baby tapioca and couldn't go back to report it, I told them when I visited again. The server I bought up the issue with (hard baby tapioca) didn't even apologize. Today, when I got a split drink, they didn't fill it up all the way. When I told her it usually is and thats why it costs extra, she rolled her eyes at me. Other times I've had really good drinks and never had problems with my drinks. This specific location of Kim's Tea House will forever be etched in my childhood memories. This was the high school spot for skipping classes/school and of course getting the boba fix. I have been to several Tea Houses nationwide and even other locations of Kim's Tea House in Houston and this specific location is where it is at, from the quality of the drink to the variety and also ambience. I have been here uncountable times. Of recent, my favorite drink here is the soursop - unsweetened. I also love their banh mi, chicken specifically.
