Especially if the food is good. A convenient location makes it better. So, Burger House: It's on Highway 6, a major road in the West Houston/Katy/Sugarland area. A few blocks south of Bellaire. You can get a half-pound burger combo for $9, quarter pound combo for $7. And all they give you is the patty, bun, and cheese; there's a salad bar where you can add your choice of fixins (lettuce, cheese, pickles, pico de gallo, onions, and lots of sauces). The Hunny and I both loved our burgers! The beef is what does it. Cooked medium, it has a strong taste that carnivores like us dig a lot. Then you add the gooey cheese, and your choice of toppings, the Burger House burger is a winner. Fries and onion rings, not so much. I took it down to three stars because both of them are disappointments. Onion rings are tasteless and sometimes burned too much. Fries are mushy, needs lots of ketchup. Okay, so I've passed this place so many times because I thought it was just another generic burger place, but I decided to pop in this week and their food is amazing! I'm glad I came in because it looked like a family owned business and it seemed like business was slow (I was the only person there). Those mozzarella sticks are literally to die for! The burger is very good and it feels like Fuddruckers before it became all about profit and not product centered. The bun has a great taste and crispness and it's great that they grill the onions. The beef patty has that diner taste of being well prepared and great char smokiness. The toppings are left for you to build on with a house sauce I didn't get to try. The chili cheese fries were ok but it is called Burger House not Fries Place. I witnessed several takeout orders while dining in. The decor seems like a mom and pop first try and that the food is the focus. Probably a good place to grab and go. The staff was friendly but not experienced in hospitality it really felt like a mom and pop place. Drinks were also self-serve station but the didn't have coke products. They also have a side bar so you can add the amount of tomato, onion, lettuce, and sauce of your choice to your burger. It isn't far from my job so I went alone as everyone had other plans. I ordered the lunch combo: 1/3 lb burger with fries and a drink $6.97 from 11 am -3 pm. I added cheese to my order. You go to the front counter to order and they give you a number to pick up when it is ready. It didn't take them too long before my order came out. Your burger comes out without any dressings as there is a bar with all the fixings: lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, relish, mayo, ketchup and house dressing(which looks like thousand island dressing). There is also fountain drinks and tea available. I like the "Arnold Palmer" and their pink lemonade and sweet tea was great for me! The burger was cooked to my liking, not too well and not too rare. I prefer a little more flavor which is why they didn't get 5 stars. The side options were impressive with very good tater tots (better executed than Sonic), fries were ok (AKA, get the tots), fried mushrooms, jalapeno poppers, and others. The toppings bar was impeccably clean and every single topping was fresh. Nothing tasted like it had sat out at all. There were the usual suspects - lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, jalapenos and a delicious pico de gallo with a kick. They had a house dressing that kinda tasted like big mac sauce along with other condiments to make your burger the way you liked. It's no gourmet burger so don't come here expecting that, but if you like basic cheeseburgers that are moist and homey, this is the place. They also have decent sides if you want to order them like fried mushrooms, tater tots, etc. They also have chicken strips which are average, nothing amazing and nuggets. I seen that they have a lunch special for $6 so it's def worth going then! I think it's 11-3pm or something. I highly recommend people to come in if they want to stray away from fast food but still want burgers. It's not too expensive (under $10 a person) and the buns really make the burgers for me.
