I'm a little upset today because they did not accept my "Yelp Check In Offer". They have always been good about stamping my card. I've been here and other locations so many times but never used my check in offer because I forget but today I remembered to show it and they didn't want to honor it. There was nothing on the offer that suggested that it expires, that I have to use at a specific location or during specific day. They simply said that wouldn't honor it. The check in offer was for a buy one get one free smoothie. I just spent $28 and they didn't want to honor the offer, what really? They do know that I'm a yelper and if they have any sense they should know that I can post a review, right? I think it will affect their business to treat anyone this way. I asked her if she had a mask for me to approach and she went off about how everything is open and free and how the masks hurt her ears. I have been eating at Kim's tea House since I was a freshman at Kerr high school. Whenever I'm back in Alief I always have to stop by, for some Boba and nostalgia. Kim's has a huge variety of drink flavors and you can also make your own. I love the cherry avocado smoothie however, you also can't go wrong with something classic like mango or passion fruit. As far as Boba places go, this place is pretty high up there. I love their popcorn chicken and french fries. One of my favorite snacks. The only downside I noticed is when they started making more stores, the prices went up and the Portion sizes went down. They used to have large cups, but now they are much skinnier. Also, the popcorn chicken is basically $5, which I think is a bit much. Are used to be able to get a drink, popcorn chicken, and fries for under $10, however, I went the other day to get a drink and popcorn chicken and it turned out to be around $12. It's not a huge difference, but when you were a college student every dollar matters. The calamari is crispy and large, the chicken is the 5-spice basil kind that's popular in Asian restaurants, and the workers are always friendly. They got magazines, banh mi (vietnamese sandwiches), and a good amount of seating. There are wall outlets and extension cords for your laptop needs, and then the tables are large enough for students and groups to move them together. Just know that there is a school not too far and can get really busy after high school lets out. Spice level really hits the point, got my nose running (extra spicy level). Order the snack once in awhile, because if you order it consecutively and consistently, you will become immune to the extra spicy by day 2. Love tapioca (boba w/e u want to call it)? This is the place for you. Forget the annoying small random chain places that consistently fail to bring normal tapioca to the table. I have issues with having tapioca that is either too hard they break like M&Ms or soft on the outside to reveal a hard rock of failure inside. Kim's tea house is doing something right on a daily basis where we can count on them to have great consistency in the tapioca and the drinks. If you want fresh fruit smoothies and great drinks, look no further. I usually order the Taro-milk tea with tapioca, great balance and still get the sweet milk taste out of this drink. When it comes to the food, it is very basic and fresh. The sandwich isn't the most extravagant item in Houston, but for the purposes of this small and warm tea house, it fits the bill. Free wi-fi, hi-def tv, a selection of music that ISN'T only super fast paced techno/trance all day every day, deep couches, great individual tables, and a staff that is pretty whimsical. The people who work, when they aren't swamped, are pretty nice for a tapioca place. I didnt want to be picky, but when it came to customizing my drink or tweaking a few things, they were more than happy to comply and help. The only downside to this place, that i don't believe is worth knocking down a star for, is that they only have 1 bathroom. My first visit to Kim's was totally on a whim. A friend had been raving about this place forever, but I just never took the time to stop by. Finding it was difficult because the roadside sign is practically buried in overgrown bushes and the only directions I had were to look around the HEB shopping plaza. The milk tea here is spot-on and so is the customer service. The guy who took my order was extremely kind and totally unfazed when I asked what a Japanese cream tea was. "Oh, it's like frozen green tea," he told me, "If you like green tea, then you'll like that one. Our milk tea is really popular too, just so you know." What a cool guy. This was most amazing Vietnamese sandwich I've ever tasted in my entire life. Oh man, the bread was flaky and thick and so amazing in itself. It was smeared with light butter, stuffed with charbroiled pork, and topped with cucumber/carrots. And as if THAT wasn't enough, I shelled out an extra 65 cents for avocado, which was added in generous chunks. Ohhhhh sweet mother of marbles. Such a great sandwich. We washed it down with milk tea, mango green tea, and fruit tea - all of them with baby tapioca! Oh, and let me tell you something about their fruit tea - every sip tastes like a different flavor of fruit! The tapioca balls don't really taste like anything! If you're weird about textures you may not like it but I truly, truly suggest trying it! I always get the cantaloupe smoothie. The prices have gone way up since they opened but I understand, it's a business. It's a good place to catch up with friends or for a quick snack. As for staff, majority of the time they're friendly. I did have an incident where the girl told me that they didn't have cantaloupe after I paid. So instead, I ordered something cheaper (I ordered two milk teas with tapioca). The girl had a bit of an attitude. She never offered to refund the price difference (difference was a small amount so I wouldn't have taken if it but she could atleast offer) when I politely mentioned the difference, she said with an attitude that I paid with cash. Um what does that have to do with you paying my difference? I just said whatever and took my drinks bc I didn't want to fuss. Mediocre at best, the drinks are nothing special and very generic. I only come here for convenience and every time regret not driving a little further for better flavor. So far I've only tried two items on the menu which is the house lemonade and lemon green tea, both of which are recommended here on yelp. Anyways, the lemonade and tapioca combo is so weird, it tasted so wrong and if my memory serves me right the lemonade wasn't even very good by itself.
