I ordered the gordita with rice and beans on the side, and overall it was a solid experience. The gordita was a 10/10. Flavorful, filling, and cooked perfectly. The beans were also a 10/10, which honestly impressed me because beans can be hit or miss, but these were really good. The rice was probably a 2/10. It wasn't great, and I've definitely had much better Mexican rice elsewhere. Compared to the rest of the plate, it was the weakest part. The service was great. Very friendly and attentive. I also really appreciate how affordable this place is. My gordita with rice and beans came out to $11, which is hard to beat these days. The ambiance inside was great, and I noticed they even do karaoke on the other side of the restaurant, which is a really fun touch. I came for a late meal just before 11pm. There was music playing, a little loud, but not loud enough to have difficulty having a conversation. Occasionally, the do have a live band that can be very loud. Our server was sweet and attentive. I ordered the Street Tacos with Chicken Fajita. The meal was served with charro beans. I've been coming to Brenda's since I was a teenager and I can confidently say this place is a consistent winner. The green and red salsa are some of the best in the city. The chips aren't made in house but the salsas are God level. I love all the breakfast dishes but my favorites are the Machaca and the Huevos Divorciados. Can't go wrong with any of their breakfast tacos. Their quesadillas are even better. My only skip is here is the enchiladas. Not my favorite. Hey. Why did you all give a customer a sope de res with brown wilted lettuce and tough and dry ground beef? I was looking forward to the sope because I so love them. It was really a bummer to open the container and the first thing I'm hit with is wilted lettuce. That's pretty gross. I then went on to look at the rest of the dish and the avocado was okay, the tomato was okay, but the beef was tough and dry and the masa was fried and oily. It's okay that the masa was fried but it was oily. If it wasn't oily it would be pretty good.My My boyfriend took one look at it and it went straight in the garbage. Just because there are 24 hours and the food is "alright" for the price but back in the day, the food was hitting alot better.

I got caldo de res and the meat loooked suspicious. Greyish streaks. I texted a friend just to make sure if I should eat it or not. This is breakfast and I was hungry but I don't want to risk it. The first piece of meat had a weird smell and I was second guessing myself about it, but when I saw this I decided to ask my friend. Now wait staff aren't going to dig through food like soup to check meat inside of opaque broth before serving. That is on the kitchen. And if they are getting bad meat, don't serve it. If it looks like you wouldn't eat it don't serve it The waitress came back with google translate saying the meat came looking like that, but it's good. It shouldn't be on her like that. Also. No shame in using our phones when there is a language barrier. That was great! I appreciated it. Service is great. Kitchen idk if I can trust them with meat. Or meat that is either in or covered by stuff and not immediately visible when served. Horchata is great btw. Not sus. Just moved to this side of town and was looking for a new taqueria. Think this one will definitely be added to my list. I'm pretty picky about fish tacos, but the ones I had here were the bomb! The fish was blackened perfectly and the chipotle cream on top was really good. Black beans and rice were standard. These people are so rude and inconsiderate... one of their employees started trying to kick me out of the bathroom while I was in the middle of going "number 2"... Came here on a Monday night at 11pm. Love how it's open 24/7. Service is friendly. Food is decent. Prices are reasonable. I got the large chicken quesadilla and 1 al pastor taco. My friend got the Barbacao Torta and 2 tacos. The tacos were cheap at 1.89$ a piece but very average. The al pastor taco was dry and bland. The quesadilla was simple and hefty. Plenty of chicken and cheese. Never can wrong with a quesadilla. I also got a few bites from my friend's torta. Pretty good! Loved the bread. Everything also came with a side of unlimited chips and salsa. Overall, a great, late night Mexican restaurant. I come to this specific Brenda's every now and then, as the location is conveniently located off Hwy 6 and Bellaire Blvd on my way home from work. The food is great and at their prices, it definitely beats having fast food. On occasions, the meats might be a little too salted or overcooked and the tastes of the salsas might vary depending on what peppers they used that day, but on average, the food is pretty good if you're in a mood for authentic Mexican cuisine. I usually order the camaron (shrimp) and fajita (beef) flour tacos, and they rarely ever disappoint taste-wise. The food is good of course, but that is if you're willing to wait a while for it. Don't come here if you are starving and expecting fast food. Whether it's empty or packed, expect to wait at least an upwards of 30 minutes for your orders to come out. On weekends when it's packed or there's some kind of event, don't be surprised if you waiting for at least an hour. The waiters and waitresses are nice, don't get me wrong, but it seems like they don't have enough of a staff to accommodate all their customers. I was on my way to work, and thinking that a taqueria is a perfect place to stop for breakfast tacos, I decided on this place. Boy that was a mistake. Perhaps eating inside the restaurant is good, but getting to-go and trying to eat in your car? Not a good idea! I went inside and was confused about where to go for a to-go order. A couple behind me knew they wanted to sit down, so they sat, and the waiter helped them first. He then said, "Follow me," and we went back to the front of the restaurant. I placed my order for 3 breakfast tacos and waited 15 minutes even though there were only two tables in the restaurant (couple already there before me and then the couple who just sat down). It's a good thing I bargained a lot of time! I was charged for 4 breakfast tacos ($6). I thought the math was off, but I was in a hurry, so I didn't worry about it. I got into the car and realized they had made 4 tacos. Well, at least that's what I paid for, right? These tacos have got to be the WORST tacos for eating on the go. They're stuck together in a hot mess, and I was worried the oil would drip all over the place. The tortillas were hard as a rock, and the tacos were so bland I only ate 2 of them. Sigh! I marked this review "I've experienced better" because my favorite breakfast taco place is El Mexsal Taqueria near IAH. I eat at the location on Gessner quite often and really like several of their breakfast items. I've waited on them couple times, one time last week they finally showed up at 7:20 and told me it would be at least 15 to 20 minutes before the grill was hot enough to cook anything.
