Every donut shop recipe comes from a Cambodian guy who used to work for Winchells. Fact. If it doesn't your donut sucks. That is donut American history, look it up. Second. All donuts should be cheap. If your donut is more than 1.50 max you're being ripped off. Third. Gotta get all the types right. Yeast raised, cake, buttermilk, all the stuff on top. This is one of my favorite doughnuts shops to date. The crumb glaze doughnuts are incredible! The customer service is generally very good as well. I've been given free doughnuts, which is a huge perk! I wish I knew when the batches were freshly fried so I know when to come. Only drive thru. 3 cars in the drive thru and it took 15 minutes to get to the window, not very efficient. The whole time waiting in my car I was harassed by a homeless man, of which there isn't any shortage of in this area. Finally got the donuts and they were pretty good. The holes definitely were light and had that melt in your mouth sensation. The maple bar was bland and not impressive. The apple fritter was pretty good. I wanted to give this. Place 5 stars because they do have great donuts but I have to give just 3 stars because I have. Been going to this places for years and. The lady that works the drive thru window customer service is horrible. I love their donuts and I'm not really into donuts that much. The key is that they are always fresh. I normally only get the glaze twist or if I'm feeling adventurous, an apple fritter. Lol. Ok so I'm in the car driving home from LA: just in my own zone, bangin Weezy's new song in the whip and seriously getting my car-groove on. I come to a red light on Century and Normandie, look over to my left and the car next to me (5 deep) is just looking at me like "Wowwww she thinks she's in the club, but she's in the car" (awkward moment, LOL) and suddenly that red light felt like it was taking wayyyy too long. So I made a quick right and what do ya know....right into the Kindles -aka the giant donut - parking lot. Ahhh, memories, this place has been around ever since 1953 and always awakens the little kid in me when I see it. (It's a huge giant glazed donut, for God's sake!) Well I guess I might as well get one since I'm here...and anyway it's convenient, it's a drive thru! (That's my sorry excuse for eating junk food and I'm sticking to it :) ) I pulled in past the donut and waited in the 3-car-long line for a little bit too long, ordered a chocolate devils food with sprinkles (the guy kept asking "Only one??!" yes...jeeze lol) and made my way home. They get points for the donut tasting really fresh still at 12:30am, they must bake new ones all day. Add extra hood-points for smelling nice little whiffs of weed-smoke while I was waiting in the drive thru. The car in front of me needs to stop playing and pass that. Awesome quality on Kindle's doughnuts. Light and fluffy, with a nice glazed shell. Probably should eat at least a half-dozen of the Texas doughnuts next time. Figure that shouldn't be a problem if you're concerned with getting out of your car in this area. Just picked up a few sweets before heading back to Vegas. Overall, I like the donuts a lot but they're not over the top amazing as some reviews might suggest. So here's my honest evaluation: PROS: Less than 5 min from the freeway on century. The buttermilk donut is a win all by itself. It is absolutely delicious, wish I had got more than one. Donut holes are good, nothing to shout about. There is somewhat of a parking lot in the back. The donuts are definitely fresh and the price is cheap. Plenty to choose from, lots of varieties. They have a drive-thru. But if you don't know the menu, be brave, get out of your car and spend 2 min max deciding on flavors. CONS: It's in a shady part of town, I don't recommend being unaccompanied at night. I from DC so I'm use to this kind of neighborhood and it doesn't bother me even slightly, but FYI to those suburban travelers. You will get begged for money by local squatters. Pay it no mind, unless your feeling extra generous to donate to the local alcohol and drug problem. They only take cash. This alone,I had to take one star off. It's a major inconvenience. I don't know anyone who still carries cash, small bills at that. Most donuts are only like .75 cents so yeah. Major drawback. Glazed donuts should always be the best and these are average at best. They were thick and fluffy but not enough glaze, almost felt as though I was eating just bread. All in all, something to try if you're in the area but not a special trip kind of thing. read more

This review is long overdue. Here are my loves for the place. The donuts are bomb, my all time favorite is the buttermilk donuts. This is pretty much all I order, well I've had the glazed donuts and those are just as great. A dozen is about $7, which isn't much especially if the donuts are perfectly soft, moist and semi sweet. I always try to take advantage of getting a dozen when Im in the area and to be honest they're kinda worth messing up my diet for. my complaints about the place are the people who stand right outside and sometimes in your face when asking for money. Also, going in and out to get into the drive thru is sometimes a mission if you enter the wrong direction. Other than that, this is one of the gems in la for donuts. Everybody needs to come out and try it. Plus the people at the window selling the donuts are usually really nice. read more
