Windstream is THE WORST. I signed up for their service over a year ago, and the first few months were fine. But when I called them to move my service to a new address, all hell broke loose. First, they only gave me phone service at my new address (what? I've never owned a landline in my life!). I still had internet, because of some weird back-end slip-up on their end, but I was paying solely for a service I didn't even use - and that cost more than my internet plan. It took them 3 months to get it fixed. I thought I was in the clear... But no. During the landline debacle, I told them several times that I didn't want a landline service. I wanted internet only. I understand they need a windstream phone number to tie to your account, but I refuse to pay for a service I'm not using. But they couldn't even get that right. Turns out, whatever dunce "changed" my plan messed up horribly. Instead of removing the phone/internet bundle, they left it on my bill AND added a second "internet only" charge to my account. So I was paying for TWO internet services under one address. They overcharged me for 2 months before I noticed it! When I called them about it, they refused to refund my money. Instead, they "credited it to my account". Which would be fine, but I wanted to cancel my service... I still haven't gotten my $113 back. And they had the gall to try to sell me more crap I don't need during this call, when they can't even get the one service I actually want right. Also, I've had an "open order" on my account since November of 2016... Which means they call me weekly asking for my availability when I've submitted no such order. For whatever reason, they can't seem to cancel it. Queue these jerks calling and interrupting at the most inappropriate times, all year long. But you know what pisses me off the most? Every time I called because I had an issue that THEY were at fault for, their customer service reps would cop an attitude, as if it's my fault they can't get it together. And if I had a dollar for every time they said they were going to "transfer me" to someone that could help, but hung up on me instead, I could pay my internet bill for months on their dime. I'd love to give these guys no stars. If you need service, they take their time. If you mail your bill on time in the middle of a pandemic, they charge late fees as the post office is moving slower. They won't miss a chance to add fees and charge ridiculous amounts for the slow speed internet. I know there are few choices out here. We deserve better. We deserve a provider that actually cares. In the midst of this pandemic, they just lost a customer who pays ON TIME EVERY MONTH. They are surely losing many more from death and joblessness. One would think they would consider that. After dealing with Spectrum customer no-service, I thought I would try Windstream to see if their system worked for me so I could ditch the Spectrum completely. Nope, I was a Windstream customer for all of two hours. The technician had to call people to understand how to make the modem work. RED ALERT ABOUT THIS COMPANY!!! We have been with this company for 3 years and cannot wait to move to anther as soon as our term is up. This company starts low and every month they increase your bill and never call you or you cannot reach their customer service to find out why. Our initial bill started at $ 1400 a month and now is above $ 2200 and keeps going up. You cannot get out of the 3 years term anytime soon. OMG wish I'd read these reviews first. I'm all hooked but called and spoke with a manager last night that I couldn't get wireless adapter to work. He said someone will b there tomorrow at 2. Sooooo, I rearranged my whole day around it. Called the guy at 2:30 and at 3:45 I saw a truck go by and flagged him down. Evidently he was working somewhere else and just got the order. Probably rolling in at 4:30, so thanks Tom Mateoke, for putting the customer first. On another note, Fitbit has phenomenal customer service and Windstream could take a page out of their playbook. I have been a customer for 20 years. I changed bank accounts and it overlapped on my payment and now these thiefs say i have to phone in or go to a store to pay my bill. They charge 7 bucks extra for this . I was never notified or told there was a problem until i tried to pay my bill online .If i had any other option for internet i would be gone. Call customer support and get kicked from one inept individual to the next only to not have your problem solved. Really frustrated with Spectrum so I just called Windstream to inquire about Kinetic services. Advertised on their website is 200 mbps for $36/mo- a pretty good deal. When I got the customer service rep on the phone he told me that I could only get 100 mbps for $48/mo. I told him I was not interested as it was not what was advertised, so he hung up on me without saying goodbye! If this is how they treat prospective customers I do not want to know how they treat customers whose money they already have. Set up an installation for their kinectic internet service. Actually spoke to a csr who advised me that they serviced our area. Fast forward 2 days, not only did they not show up, they never even called. When I contacted them, the csr told me, "Oh we don't service that area yet" No apology or anything for wasting my time. They day it went out it came up with a tab asking for this big user name and password that we didn't even know I tried resetting the router at least three times that day before giving up and just thinking there was an outage there wasn't. So my dad called you guys after work that day and nothing seemed to be resolved he got it fixed him self but ever since then we have had to reset the router at least 30 times a day if not more! These guys just flat out make me laugh. I actually wanted to go with them because I thought I could budget my prices from Time Warner Cable; however, I found that this place can be just as expensive. The internet for a 2 year, no contract agreement is $32 plus tax and $75 modem fee. The funny part was, when I placed an order with one rep two weeks ago. The actual guy was suppose to be coming today. I called them back up and they said I never had an order with them. So the guy is probably going to come today and I will just have to tell him that I did not place an order? Sounds insane. When I called back, the rep on the other end actually sounded kind of indifferent as to wanting me as a customer. He was just like "All right, just tell them that you do not want it". -_- You have two businesses: Time Warner Cable that tries to be reasonable with prices; even though, they are still pricey, no matter what way you look at them. I've had broadband with one provider or another, in one city or another for about 15 years. I've had cable, DSL and Fiber. Now that I'm living in Lexington, Windstream DSL is the only option in the apartment complex I'm living in. It is, without doubt, the worst internet service I've ever had. I can appreciate that it's slower than what I'm used to. It's a DSL connection provided as part of my temporary housing package, so it, I'm assuming, their lowest tier service (3Mbs service). I'm used to 40Mbs service from CenturyLink in Colorado. That said, I'm lucky to get 3Mbs service. Most days, my service hovers in the mid-2s for download and has never topped 0.6 for uploads (yes, that's DIAL UP SPEED). Latency is a problem as well, with pings approaching 100. When I move into a proper apartment, I'll consider LTE wireless before I consider Windstream. read more

They are still terrible. The internet goes down inexplicably every few weeks for anywhere from a couple hours to a full day. It's very frustrating to try and get to them over the phone, if you call the # on the Windstream website you just get stuck going through a bunch of messages about "amazing offers" you may qualify for. They should compensate customers for the time the internet goes down. I'm paying over $50 a month (for the $29.99 deal of course) and I really wish they would prorate all the hours that I can't even get online because their service is mysteriously down. They are the worst internet provider I have ever had. We didn't end up getting service with Windstream, and here is why. On Wednesday 12/28/16 we called the local Lexington retail store and requested to start up internet service. We were told by the woman that we would receive 25mb internet for $30 a month, and the tech would be out sometime today 12/30/16 between 8-4:30pm. 2pm rolls around and we haven't heard from the tech, so we call the retail store. They are closed. We contact the customer service office. The first woman we speak to says the price would be $40, and no tech is schedule for today because they don't work weekends, and the earliest we could get service is 01/05/16. At this point we say forget it, we want to cancel everything. The woman says "Okay, let me take care of that for you'" puts us on hold, THEN TRANSFERS US. After being on hold for ten minutes, a man answers. We ask for a supervisor. The man puts us on hold for another 15 minutes, a supervisor answers and states she would just have to transfer us right back to where we were originally and she can't/won't do anything to help us. At this point we are beyond disgusted and end the phone call completely. We didn't even get service with the company and I would give them less than one star if possible. read more

All these negative reviews are accurate. I fought off and on with Windstream for almost a decade. They informed me once how to refresh the modem via their web portal. I had written the detailed instructions down and placed later in my desk. So the Internet goes down again and of course they blame the modem and say I must upgrade to a new one and pay more. Whatever, I didn't believe them since I knew they were under extreme financial distress and suspected they were intentionally turning off the internet to force modem upgrades to increase cash inflow to try to stop the bleeding of customers leaving. So I went to my desk and after a long search found the detailed instructions on how to refresh the modem/network via their portal and lo and behold it worked. So I knew they were being less than truthful with me and I switched ISP that week. I haven't looked back and am amazed I put up with it as long as I did. I haven't had an Internet interruption since I went to cable and my payment is actually less after all the BS add on charges from Windstream. read more

This company should be embarrassed by their crappy product! We switched to save some money and it's been like 4 months. I am completely fed up. It goes out EVERYDAY. I spent an hour on the phone with Windstream where I was transferred 6 times. Only to find out, to reinstate my account; which Windstream cancelled my service too soon, was to setup a new account and charge me $75 to do a background check. Why a background check when I was a customer for two years!!! Here is what happen: I had called on April 16th to notify them that I want to cancel service for May 10th. On April 26, I woke up to no service. I called right a way. I spoke with a nice customer service representative, Brianna who stated that it would be no problem to have service back up and running by 7:00 pm that day. On April 27, I still had no service. I called Windstream again and that is when I was transferred 6 times and put on hold 5 to 10 minutes an agent and be told I would need to setup a new account. Windstream is twice the price of alternate carriers in the Los Angeles area. We used them for 5 years, since we were under contract. Everything was fine, except a little slower than advertised. However, when you do have a problem, it can take over a week for them to do anything. It is tough to run a business without phone and internet. The kicker is when you want to cancel. They bill you for another 30-45 days after your number have been ported out. read more

If there is any choice in your area, I recommend NOT to use Windstream. Their product is as expected being in a remote area like we are. However, Windstream service is AWEFUL. They had 3 appointment 'window periods' with me in the last 2 months and have done 'no shows'. When they did show up, they were unable to determine the problem, left, and there was no repair. Yet, they closed out the work orders as being repaired 2 times prior to fixing it. Last month they had 3 trips just to get the phone line repaired. These 3 work order trips with Windstream is about a month in down time. All of this was prior to the storms. Now, they are using the hurricanes as an excuse. Lastly, they talked me into an upgrade on Internet speed. They came to the site and performed the outside work which disabled the Internet totally. However, they did not complete the inside work with a new modem because they did not schedule a time for us to be home to let them in. We both work at our businesses,and of course were not home. I called and scheduled a time frame to be home and of course they missed that too. So, now after a few days of no home Internet I asked them to put the Internet back like it was. I figured very slow Internet is better than no Internet. So, now, I don't expect to get Internet for a few more weeks. read more

When we moved to KY in 2013, we only had one choice for internet and landlines - Windstream. Unfortunately, it is still the only service here after five years. I have called their office on a bi-weekly basis regarding internet going in and out and phone lines with static. It is extremely frustrating, especially when you work on the phone and internet a lot. We pay over $200 per month. We've had the same technician come out all these years and he said, "Their cables are from the 1960s and until they update them, you'll always have problems. I have never dealt with a more unprofessional company. 1. The phone tree- A. If it detects background noise, it disconnects the call, regardless of time invested trying to speak to a human. B. My average time to speaking to a human is 15:04 2. The billing can't see your service info, the techs can't see your billing info, and nobody cares I spent a total of four hours on the phone to correct two of their errors that left me without internet 2 days consecutively. I'm being up-sold speeds that I'm too far away from a switch to receive My device was turned off for days while the company decided if they want to repair their switch. I've paid an average of $80 monthly for data because my internet can't support my phone wifi needs at home. They continually try to sell me more megs than I can receive because of rural issue. But they have no problem billing for those megs they know you'll never see. read more

They have designed their customer service so that you are on hold for 38 mins then when you get a live body they are tier one and can't really fix the problem so they transfer you and you want another 30 mins then tier 2 says they need to check with an engineer and puts you on hold again. They hope you will just give up after being on hold for an hour. But no I won't so 20 mins later they tell me they will send out a Technician some time between the hours of 9am and 5pm. Well for those of us who work for a living from 9-5 can't exactly sit around all day and wait. read more
