Friendly and well maintained, the course is at The World Golf Village (WGV). Two nine-hole courses have wide fairways and lots of water that isn't too difficult to get over or around. I was in a golf outing. Lunch was in the cafe. Burgers, wraps, salads, wings, etc., with wine or beer, were delicious after our rounds. The pro shop has the usual merchandise. The courses were designed by Arnold Palmer (King) and Jack Nicklaus (Bear). Lots of pictures of the two during their careers line the hallway. read more

Amazing track. Met one of the greenskeeers - Jeffrey, talked the course and the greens. Place was in immaculate condition. We'll worth the price tag. Greens were very pure, fast and challenging ping placements. Sand in bunkers was consistent and a little too frequently visited by me.... It's not cheap, but man - I had the first tee time solo and cruised through my round in under 3 hours. Really a fun and challenging experience. Saw Bev cart 3 times despite starting at 7:30 - so they get through the course to keep you hydrated. read more

My kids LOVE golfing and competed on their middle school & high school teams. My youngest was also on a travel golf team throughout North Florida. We only had a few tournaments at King & Bear, but each time we did.... The course was in great condition! The staff was so gracious and incredibly helpful! Bathrooms were clean & well-stocked! Great condition and friendly service. Teed off around 2:00 on a Friday in May and breezed through the front nine in about an hour and 40 minutes. Unfortunately, we then hit a roadblock on the back nine where we had to wait on every tee box. It could be the layout or the par 3's coming at 11 and 14 but we still finished the round in under 4 hours. With panoramic views, tee boxes and fairways were well maintained, bunkers were managed, and greens rolled well. We played the blended tees at around 6200 yards which was perfect for me. Enough challenge and forgiveness for my game. Complimentary crispy red delicious apples in barrels of ice await you on holes 1 and 9 - which can really hit the spot on a Florida summer day on the links. The clubhouse doesn't look like much from the front but inside you'll find a well appointed restaurant, bar, and pro shop. I recommend playing this resort golf course if your budget allows. read more

Planned a golf trip with a group of friends from across the country. I have one friend who is just getting into golf and is not ready to play a course like this yet. However, he wants to ride along and join in on the fun, watch and learn. He has been able to do this at every course thus far (including TPC Sawgrass). However, here, they won't allow it due to 'not enough cart capacity'. When we offered to walk, that wasn't allowed for non members. So our friend we get to see once or twice a year had to leave as the course had 0 willingness to help us out. Additionally, the bar/food service doesn't open until late in the day. I respect Jack and Arnie a lot, and was excited to play here. I don't believe they would be supportive of the lack of access to the game they love here nor the lack of customer service displayed. read more

I and a group of friends have played this course every Spring for a week of golf during the last 20+ years. It was a beautiful course that was challenging but fun to play. In the last few years the course conditions have declined while the fees have increased. This year we arrived for our week of golf to learn that the course will be closing at the end of May for a complete renovation. So rather than put the effort into maintaining great greens they packed in green dyed sand. The result was greasy, hard greens that would not hold a ball, putts complicated by pins located on ridges. We had 3 very, very unenjoyable rounds of golf. On Sunday the final day of The Masters we finished our round at 5:05 with the intent of going into the clubhouse to watch the finish. Our intentions were crushed because they closed the clubhouse at 5 pm. What management moron would close their bar/restaurant at a golf course on the final day of one of the premier golf events! Despite the poor condition of the course they continue to charge $225. (We had a special rate but still not worth what we paid). Go play one of the area public courses for around $65. They are in better shape! read more

Nice staff tee times are flexible as we started a half hour early. Reason for the bad review is the condition of the the greens. Basically spray painted dirt. $80 a person is the cheapest rate to play on said dirt. Just not great experiences here. Would recommend going somewhere else so that even if you do play on dirt at least it is worth the price. read more

Save your money and play elsewhere now. The greens are crap as they are trying to kill them off before tearing them out (as shared by a marshall). We weren't told about it despite booking well in advance, nor was the rate reduced. Short cut around the greens is like walking on straw. Driving range didn't have grass either (dead as well). This is a private club, however, you can play if you stay at the Marriott Renaissance nearby in the World Golf Village. About one-half of the course is in a pristine wooded area with lakes and beautiful trees. Other half adjoins nice residential area with long set back from golf course to homes. The course design is a collaboration between the King & Bear (Arnold Palmer & Jack Nicklaus). The clubhouse has a design and setting that gives the feeling you are in Wisconsin. The restaurant has great view of the course and woods. There is a large barrel stocked with iced apples on holes 1 & 10. A very enjoyable experience. read more

This was originally promoted as a destination golf resort. It is nothing more than a golf themed retirement community. The course is in great shape and a lot of fun to play...but the service is lacking for the price you pay. Restaurant doesn't open till 11am so they just tell you to get food from the beverage cart. It rolled up as we were in the #9 fairway. Tried to get a souvenir hat from the pro shop for my son. Nobody else in the shop and the attendant got agitated because my son changed his mind at the register. "Are you going to get it or not" were the words used. Plenty of great courses that charge less than the $189 we paid. Saved up for a long time to make this trip. Wish I would have picked a different course. read more

The bartender at King & Bear is amazing. John Johnson made my friend and I delicious mojitos!! I had a blueberry mojito and my friend had a raspberry mojito. He made them with all fresh ingredients. Went with friends on a Friday evening. WONDERFUL atmosphere , great live music, excellent service and excellent food. Drinks were a little pricey for the portion you received. My husband and I each ordered an old fashioned, a couple sips and they were done. But that's to only negative we had. We were with friends so we didn't say anything. The pretzel board was an amazing appetizer/ or meal. But honestly everyone was VERY satisfied with their food and there was 6 of us. read more

This is one of the best golf courses I've ever played. Very predictable and consistent greens, bunkers and fairways. Unfortunately, they haven't built courses to handle the width of my game. Tons of OB and water everywhere. Tons of slope. This course is WAY difficult. Poor drink cart girls have a legit #MeToo beef. Was in the 50s today and they were required to wear the shortest skirt. Ken K and Jack M said it well....play it once to say you did, but you might be underwhelmed. Played with 7 guys during a weekend retreat. Course is in good shape. Practice area was full of weeds and was not manicured. Got sideways looks from the "MEMBERS" when i went to grab a few complimentary range balls from the bins near their area. Very welcoming! i was very very disappointed in the lack of service, courtesy, and helpfulness. Someone said they should rename the place "Bushwood". No beverage cart on the course, though we were told multiple times by the ever-present rangers that the cart was on the way. If you are looking for prestige, meh. Save your money and play at St John's Golf & Country Club. Just picking a random course in the area would be better. read more

Beautiful and very challenging golf course designed by Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus. For September when most Florida courses are looking a little worn and dry, this place was in top shape. Since it was 95 degrees, I especially appreciated the barrels of icy cold apples on 1 & 10. The clubhouse and pro shop are gorgeous too. Green fees include your cart, practice balls on the driving range, and player assistants who clean your clubs. Very nice! read more

As a member of a private club I tried this "semi private" club. I have seen the worst driving range to where I am in the dirt. The greens are of that of a public course and the staff has no golf etiquette whatsoever! Beware do not come to this place they will take your money and all expectations are underwhelming. Bad day at King and Bear as checked in as single and bag placed with 3some while at range Grabbed putter and headed to practice green to come back and bag was taken off cart by Davis 3 some ...don't blame them with nO introduction yet rude!! Pro shop John blamed it on starter as he is right I should have been place in a cart as a single then paired up at 1st hole by starter Bag drop has no clue nor do they care !! Dreadful service on February 3rd, 2019 Had to seat overselves Waitress took drink order, brought over 1 soda Had to be reminded twice that there were 3 Bloody Marys we were waiting for, and those took 30 minutes Took our order when she brought Bloody Mary's ( no straw and no utensils- we previously had to go find menus ourselves). An hour later still no breakfast and then another person came out and said our waitress never put in the order. So, if you want to eat at The King and The Bear, please follow these rules: Bring your own utensils, straws and napkins; Wait 1 1/2 hou Leave without having received a morsel of food. First the good. The course was in excellent shape. The fairways were cut even after they received a lot of rain the day before. They allowed us to cross the fairways at 90 degrees from the cart path. The greens were excellent. The greens were fast and for the most part smooth. There are a number of different tee boxes to choose from. The staff was friendly. Now the bad. It took well over 5 hours to play 18 holes. They wedged in an outing in front of us and it was mind numbingly slow. When we finished they also didn't offer to clean our clubs. For what we paid to play this place, I would have expected better. No GPS in the carts either. It was a long day of hit and wait. Make sure they don't do the same to you. read more

We played The King & Bear course on 4 March. Overall a good day. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Greens were great, lots of contour and pretty quick. Fairways and tee areas were mostly good, just a couple of the tees in rough shape (it's March, so it happens). There were a couple things that detracted from our experience. First, there is no information on the scorecard or at the tee areas regarding the routing of the holes. Seems that for $100+ green fees, they could throw in a yardage book. Second, the turf is infested with sand fleas. This might be just an early spring problem, but it would be a good idea to make sure that visitors are aware of this in case they might be allergic. I ended up with 15-20 bites during the round (not allergic, so just annoying). A little insect repellent would've been helpful. Again, we enjoyed the course, it just could've been better. read more

My husband and I had our wedding reception here. It is a small and cozy venue. The food was wonderful. The staff is so friendly. I would recommend this place for any party or wedding. They need to replace the carpet, but it's not horrible. read more

It's a course that has private members. This staff and members represent everything golf shouldn't be.... arrogant, stuffy, elitist and rude. It's not worth the price. Once you're out on the course, It's resort style golf. Wide open not much of a challenge for a low handicap golfer. World golf village can keep both of their overpriced courses and arrogant staff. read more

Great course! Just don't show up expecting drink or food service. No beverage cart so we were told to head inside to get food and snacks. Would have been nice if there was someone behind the bar. Clubhouse had to track them down and the dude was not very friendly. At the turn we stopped in to try and grab a dog and they were out. Who runs out of hotdogs? Again the guy was a dope. read more

I had an opportunity to play this course last week(4.11.14), it's in great shape. I'm a 24 handy cap, so this course really challenged my abilities from the blue tees. I know I'm not the best, but I enjoy the game. The staff is very attentive and friendly, the facility is top notch. Your greens fees include not only your round and cart, but unlimited practice balls at the driving range( great added value). The issue I have with this course is the score card has no hole layout! NONE, the card online is the one you get on your cart. I did not know what direction to tee off, I had to guess based on the direction of the tee box and pray !! Sometimes I could see the hazards, but sometimes not so much. I could have used the GPS on the cart.... IF IT HAD ONE! When you pay $100+ dollars for golf, I would like to know what direction I should be hitting my ball and what lies ahead!! All in all, I would play this course again. I would give this course 5 stars, but not knowing the hole layout just killed my experience. read more
