This is a great place for delicious and fast Chinese food. I pass by this place very often and finally decided to give it a try. They give you the ability to order your food online, so I was able to check out the menu to see what they offered. They have plenty of options and many things to choose from. Prices are very reasonable and excellent bank for your butt. I went with the Mongolian beef combination plate, which also came with rice and an eggroll. The price was around $12. For that price, they give you a ton of food, nice portion size! Now to the important part... How did it taste? It was delicious! The flavors were excellent. I was also impressed by how much beef they put in this Mongolian beef dish. Often times restaurants will pack you with the vegetables, and not the beef itself. King Chef definitely gives you your fair share of beef as you should get. I was very impressed and I've been back another time since my initial visit. Their prices have gone up a good amount in the past couple years but I imagine they had to in order to survive. Not a lot of seating but some if you want to eat in. Only reason this is 1 star is because I could not leave zero stars. Let me start by saying the woman at the counter is rude. I've been here 4 times and the "service" remains terrible. The food on my previous 3 visits has been great. Good portions, fresh, seasoned well. Now for my fourth visit last night. We ordered Shanghai Mei Fun and Sesame Chicken. The food was rancid. First bite of chicken it was obvious something was bad. Either the chicken itself or the sauce used to cook it. It made the entire dish vomit inducing. My husband states his was bad as well. We ordered the butter chicken and General Tso's Chicken and both were tasty and a good value. Plenty of food for the money. Also ordered buffalo wings and crab rangoon and were impressed by both. A pretty hot sauce coated the medium size wings well and had plenty of kick, even for a chile lover like me. The crab rangoons were large, a little chewy and had good faux crab style flavor. Pros: King Chef is cheap, has a large menu, and is extremely fast. The appetizers are a good deal...you can get a huge order of crab wontons for less than $5, which is pretty unusual. The food has been good and some of it was very good. But I will no longer go there. Once I mentioned that the chicken on a stick was way over cooked and not eatable and they didn't seem to care or offer anything to correct it. Then my wife tried something new Habachi chicken. It was terrible,I called them and asked if They could replace it with something else and their response was just because you don't like it that's not our fault and would not offer anything to make us happy. Hands down one of the best chinese takeout spots I ever had in my life and coming from someone who has been living in NYC his whole life, it carries weight. Sesame chicken and general tso you can never go wrong with that. I personally ask for light sauce because the crispiness of the chicken stands out and it tastes a lot better. This restaurant has the worst service in Burlington, NC. I work long hours and it is one of the only places open past 10 pm so when I called at 9:45 to place a delivery order I expected to be taken care of much better than I was. I've had food delivered form this restaurant many times in the past and was a bit confused when they told me they didn't deliver but still opted to place an order for pick-up. Upon doing so the woman asked if I would get there as soon as possible even though they didn't close for another 45 minutes. The man I spoke with before her hung up on me when I asked to place an order. Don't go late. Don't go at all. The Pu-Pu Platter and all appetizers come burnt and the food is sloppy and not well made. It's been almost 2 years since my last review. We've been regular customers during that time, maybe grabbing takeout from here 1-2 times a month. About a year ago, we purchased a family meal, got back home and found that they didn't give us the rice that was supposed to come with it. They said we could come back and they would give us some. If I didn't live around 10 miles away, I would have, but that's too far to drive for some rice. They said they'd give us some free rice the next time. A month or so ago, the same thing happened again. We got home and there was no rice with our meal. I called again and they would only offer to give me some free the next time. Knowing that they deliver, I suggested that since it was there mistake...for the second time...that they should deliver some. They refused. I stopped in today to collect on my "free" rice and added in a couple of sides. I asked about how much it would cost me to upgrade the rice from white to fried and they would only give me fried if I paid full price for it. I'm not trying to get something for nothing...I paid for the rice when I didn't get it the first time. I appreciate the cheap family meals I've gotten here in the past, but cheap ceases to be appealing when mixed with the inconvenience of screwed up orders and bad service. There are much better places to chose from in Burlington and Graham. Deleting their number from my phone and taking their magnet down off the fridge. This was my last time giving King Chef my business. If you decide to give them a shot, check your order before leaving...
