Even so, I enjoyed a tasty plate of collards right here at the beginning of July on Friday. I did doctor them up with a generous application of Texas Pete...vinegar + heat. Makes perfect sense if you like it spicy! The plate also had potato salad and ham, with 2 expertly made 1/2 & 1/2 iced teas. If you like collards and you like potato salad and you like ham...then get your rear in gear on some Friday and order up a plate of southern soul food at its best! Did I mention the hush puppies? No? It's cause I ate them all! Don't even need butter! I'm no fan of the corn sticks tho, but I don't like those from anywhere. Can't wait for the first frost later this year! Made the drive to Washington to try this famous local spot - the building itself is pretty rundown, parking spots a bit limited. You order at the window and wait to hear your name hollered. The young lady that placed our order was not friendly. Period. Borderline rude and made it pretty clear she didn't want to be at work. Onto the food - the fried chicken was good, the corn nuggets very yummy. Didn't care for the potato salad. The yellow cake with chocolate frosting was average, didn't finish it. OMG, we loved Kings - definitely a must stop if you're in the area. I ordered a couple of Chix Thighs that came with one of their delicious Cat Head Cheese biscuits, also a side of Hush Puppies and a small Sweet Potato Pie. Yes quite like the burger places were/are and they do have burgers here. Actually they have an enormous menu fit for any family to enjoy. I've had the chicken biscuit here and it's a monster. You won't need lunch anytime soon after eating it. Huge piece of juicy breast is sandwiched under a flaky fall apart biscuit. I was looking for something that unique for lunch that I've not tried or heard of. King Chicken did not disappoint!! The service was great with a wonderful attitude and smile! I love places that are very popular in the community, like KC seems to be to Washington. I enjoyed watching the customers interact with each other as they had greeted each other like long-time acquaintances, coming in to grab their lunch meals. One of the best good old down home fried chicken joints i've ever been to! I stopped by out of the blue after seeing the big rooster on the sign and they did not disappoint! The cashier Devon was an absolute sweetheart and such a pleasure, she helped us out and even let us try a couple things before we ordered. The fried chicken is delicious! It was made fresh right on the spot, so we're the fried green beans and corn nugget side dishes we ordered. The only downside is that there's no indoor seating but with the amazing food quality, I don't feel like knocking a star off for that would be fair. King Chicken has been here for more than 60 years and very much a part of our history. Some of the best soul food you'll ever have. I have NEVER had anything from this restaurant I didn't like. I drove 2hrs to Little Washington to take my nephew to a Dr appointment and I passed this place. It was PACKED with cars. My nephew wanted pizza after his appointment but I convinced him to try this place. I love coming to old food places. This was our first time coming here and I would drive the two hours just to come back!!! We had a car full but we got 3 BLTs, cheeseburger, bbq sandwich, 2 tots, fries, 2 onion rings and two cathead cheese biscuits. We also got the lemon cake, chocolate cake and apple turnovers. We got three drinks and lots of napkins and condiments. It was $42 and fed all five of us plus some for the 2hr ride home. The service and even the customers inside were SUPER friendly.
