I brought my wife and 2 kids here for dinner on a Friday night. The staff was friendly and courteous. Our food came out quick and it was hot. My 6 yr old liked the edamame and the chicken wings. My 4 yr old like the l dumplings. My wife ordered general TSO's chicken and I had the egg fou young. Both of the entrées were very tasted in standard American Chinese food. The ambience was straight out of the 1990s Chinese food American restaurant vibe. If I want good old American Chinese food, I would definitely come back here. read more

I have been dining at this restaurant since I was 10 years old with my aunt & uncle, and now I treat my family here almost 40 years later. Welp...all good things at some point come to an end! The writing has been on the wall for quite some time. It's NO LONGER the same as its reputation use to be. The last time I said I wouldn't be back...it's official and you know how you read some reviews and you say to yourself "well that wasn't the experience that I had"?? On our visit today we ordered Beef Fried Rice, Beef w/Broccoli and Hot n Sour Soup for pick up. There was no one at the register when I arrived and someone was waiting before me. After a shirt while, someone came to the front desk and didn't acknowledge either of us and started to talk over us to another employee who was walking up behind us. This went on for several minutes and then she just said "PHONE NUMBER!" No greeting. Just barked that out. I paid and then asked for soy sauce and a package of Cayenne Pepper. She said Soy Sauce was in the bag and the Cayenne Pepper is $.10 a package. This ANNOYED me..you want me to run my card for 10 CENTS??? Not like a handful or extra but for one tiny package of Cayenne pepper for 3 dishes...bahahaha But, the real kicker is that the food is not just OKAY. I don't like to be one to complain, but here goes. I very rarely go out to eat. My friends and I came to King Doh Restaurant on Friday evening. Our waitress argued with my elderly friend about the number of crab Rangoons in an order. People who arrived after we were seated received their main course much earlier than we did. Furthermore, once our main course arrived, no one came to see how the food was or if we needed anything. It seemed like our waitress was upset with us. It truly is about service. I'm sorry if she was having a bad day, but sometimes we have to practice being thoughtful even if the desire is lacking. read more

Really great dinner on Thanksgiving day. Instead of my usual cashew chicken I had the Bul Go Gi which was delicious. The steak was very tender and I loved the sauce with mushrooms and onions. I went to dinner around 5 pm so it wasn't very crowded. read more

King Doh Beef and Mongolian beef are my favorites so far. Best Chinese food I've had near West County. The beef is good and tender.

King Doh is a throwback to a vintage Chinese American restaurant. You're not going to find hot pot or pork belly here. But what you will find are excellent versions of things like Crispy Beef, Happy Family, Pot Stickers, Sizzling Rice Soup, etc. I would give the food 4 out of five stars. Some items are better than others. Another thing I love is the cocktail menu with rum punchs, mai tais, and pina coladas,. There are also mocktails for whoever is driving! On a Saturday night at 6pm they were hopping. Both dining rooms were open, the lobby was full of pick up orders, and most tables were filled. We were seated quickly. The service is always spectacular. No matter how busy they are, they seem to get everything right! As we left the women at the front desk was taking a very specific modified order which speaks highly of their customer service and willingness to alter the menu. If you are looking for good Chinese American food and a place for less adventurous eaters, I whole-heartedly recommend King Doh! read more

Very rude - we ordered through door dash and when it took over an hour past the promised time I called and they told me to cancel it or come pick it up myself. After going to the restaurant they made us wait even longer and repay for the food order. It's terrible food. And don't order delivery. Which is the only reason you would order from them anyway. read more

It took a lot for our family of three to break away from Panda Express but we were successful tonight. Overall very good experience and we will be back. First, we parked right outside the front door so access was easy. All staff were very friendly and we had no problem getting a table at 6:00 on a Tuesday. The egg rolls, pork egg foo young and lo noodles were great, particularly the egg foo young. Had to try the orange chicken and while not as good as Panda Express, it was good. : ) The cost was a bit more than I'd like to pay on a weeknight but I guess it's that way everywhere now and we did have a lot of food. read more

King Doh has been my go to Chinese restaurant for awhile and I recently placed an order and was sadly disappointed by how gone down hill the food is now. I always get the hot braised boneless chicken and for you think nearly $20 it would be perfect but this time it was actually the complete opposite of what it normally is. Had ZERO sauce, super dry, and was packaged differently (normally in the typical Chinese takeout boxes and would be filled with the hot braise sauce which is the best part.) King Doh is always a great for dine in Chinese. I haven't ordered to go, but love the quiet atmosphere with my family. The staff is great and playful with my kids. The only thing is I miss is the hot tea pots and cups, and also the vinegar and soy sauce on the table for pot stickers. read more

Sadly, a second attempted night out was once again foiled, this time by a restaurant I had previously reviewed highly. Tonight's performance was nothing short of a disaster. While the food was still quite good, although not as good as it was, the fact that there appeared to be only one waitress for the entire floor made the experience painful. The food took a long time and she forgot one of the main entrees. The food was also served with less care than was my last to go order at McDonalds. She also for got white rice for the entrees. Clearly management is not doing its job. Also just as clear they bias their booming takeout business to the detriment of their eat in business as we were told sizzling rice soup was about out and popular with take out, so there was none left. I hope this is just a temporary lapse, but I won't be coming back anytime soon to check. read more

After the change of ownership, the quality of food was in free fall and finally hit the bottom. The new owner and chef might be following the secret recipes that had been successfully developed by the previous owner and chef. Unfortunately they failed to reproduce the recipes. Food lacks the flavor and quality. So sad to see "King Doh" turn into "King Dumb" I would not go there unless the "good old" chef comes back. read more

There is only one place that I can eat Chinese food in St. Louis, and that's King Doh. The ingredients are fresh and authentic, they have black mushrooms, which are woody and hearty and delicious, unlike their white/button counterparts, and they always get my VERY specific orders right. The woman that usually answers the phone and works the take out desk is very fast, is helpful when you need recommendations, and even knows it's me when I call (Extra garlic, extra onion, in white sauce? For Megan? Yep it's me...), which I appreciate. And despite my weird requests, she is always understanding, never acts annoyed, and they always do what I ask. It should be that way everywhere, but you'd be surprised. Which is why I always come back. Also, I'm a vegetarian, and some Chinese restaurants in the area really freak me out with what they use in their sauces, as well as occasionally (accidentally) mixing in a piece of chicken or beef with my dish. And once that happens, I'm just done with you. It isn't something I can get past mentally. Sorry. I always order the black mushrooms with pea pods, and the black mushrooms with bamboo shoots, both in the white sauce. The bamboo shoots aren't like anything I have every had before. They are big chunks, not just little slivers. This tells me that they are fresh and authentic, as is everything else at King Doh. Occasionally I get Veggie Lo Mein as well, or Hot Braised Eggplant, because the sauce is soo sweet, tangy, and delicious. I try to stick to 2 things max though (I like variety, and this is a tough task), because this place is a bit pricier than most Chinese places (11-12 dollars per item). It' worth it though. And if you get take out, you can get a card, and they write down how much you spend each time, and when you hit 50 dollars, you get 20% off your next order. That's a pretty good deal if ya ask me. My fav Chinese food ever is in NC, but King Doh is a close second. And it's my one and only in the Lou. If I want Chinese food on Monday, when they are closed, I just do without. After a fun filled Christmas day with my family, I needed to get away to a nice dinner. Megan A. mentioned in the talk threads that this place is open on Christmas so I stopped in. First let me say there was a decent wait on Christmas night. The parking lot was PACKED. I passed two other open Chinese places in Rock Hill on the way here and neither were near as busy. I've eaten here before. The food is usually good, although the last time I came there was a lunch buffet and it was just average. This time the girlfriend and I started with the rum punch for two and potstickers as an appetizers. The rum punch is super good and strong. The potstickers have great flavor... i just wished there was more filling. For dinner she had sweet & sour chicken and I had the Bul Go Gi (which I thought was actually Korean). Either way, her dish was good, mine was great. The bulgogi has a really interesting sweet sauce. For dessert we ordered the Mr Fu Man Chu drink (see pic). This one was super strong too... and good, but not as good as the rum punch. Thanks King Doh for a nice Christmas dinner. I'm glad you were busy and I'm glad we decided to wait. My in-laws wanted to treat me so I read the Yelp reviews which were uneven. But most of the negative reviews seems to focus on "American Chinese" menu. We were planning to order from the "Korean Chinese" menu which seemed to have good reviews. It's located in an unassuming and somewhat deserted strip mall. It wasn't very crowded even though it was Saturday night. Not much of an ambience but I didn't really expect much. Potstickers: crispy on one side, chewy on the other side, and juicy on the inside, delicious Korean style sweet and sour beef (tang-su-yook): not quite crispy but very tasty Hot and cold appetizer (yang-jang-pee): chock full of good stuff including jellyfish, could have used some more mustard sauce Chicken wings (gan-poong-gi): very tasty and meaty Three ingredients (yu-san-sel): shrimp, scallops and bamboo shoots were good but slightly under-seasoned Kung pao eggplant: breaded and spicy, haven't seen it anywhere else, simply tasty Mapo tofu: pungent and thickly sauced, tasty but not my style, I prefer the silken tofu with thinner sauce Noodles with black bean sauce (samsun-gan-jajangmyun): Very tasty but a bit salty Overall, very tasty food. Why not five stars? Sloppy presentation and indifferent service. For example, hot and cold appetizer needs to be mixed up before serving. Christmas evening, 8pm, i get a call about my pickup order. Woman says, you ordered extra brown rice? Yes, I confirm. She informs me that the additional cost for the rice, which for an unexplained reason was not applied to my $50+ order plus $10 tip, would be $3.75. Huh. I'm paying $60 and you can't throw in some extra rice? Answer: no. So I get the food. Second bad indication: tropical fish tank in waiting area is yeck, murky water, floating particles. I wonder if the kitchen is spic-n-span. Order arrives at register, all bagged up. Anything else, sir? Chopsticks in there? Oh, let me see...No!! Sorry. My bad. How many? Four sets, please. OK, thank you! Back at hotel, hungry and full of expectation. Pot stickers? Average, with too salty sauce. Chicken with vegetables: awful. Undercooked gnarly bits of chicken stopped me after two bites. Tofu with mixed vegetables: was this stuff even cooked? The watery "white sauce" was flavorless and the whole dish lukewarm. Beef lo mein: tough, chewy little nuggets of beef in a salty brown goo sauce, barely edible. $60 of food (but no brown rice) dumped in the trash. And worse, it gave my girlfriend a case of stomach cramps and, well, you know, very bad trips to the bathroom. This place needs a health inspection and someone who knows how to cook. This is definitely one of the top chinese food places in St. Louis. There are one, maybe two others that I would put above this one, but they are much much further away for me. They do not deliver, definitely a sit-down joint but takeout is available (I recommend staying inhouse as the freshness of the food is what sets this place apart and some things just don't travel well after steaming in boxes to your house). It's casual, but at first glance the white tableclothes and atmosphere might suggest different. Dishes are family style. Best pot stickers in St. Louis hands down (and they happily bring me out some of their homemade chili oil when I ask), and the pancakes for their Moo Shu are so far and above what you'll find elsewhere you may be ruined for life. Service is always attentive and impeccable, including tableside creation of the Moo Shu or any other dish requiring assembly. Menu is predominantly Peking and Szechuan items. While I have yet to have a disappointing dish off their menu, you should know that there are more traditional items available as well but depending on the season and availability of the items they may or may not be available and you'll likely want to coordinate with them in advance. You can typically get Peking Duck year round but need to order in advance. Other items sometimes available if you ask: Sharks fin, abalone, jellyfish Also note that they are closed on Mondays, I can't count the number of times we've gone there for dinner only to find them closed. Let me set the scene for you. It's a quiet Saturday night. I'm a sweaty, smelly mess from running more miles than I care to divulge (half-marathon training? That shit cray!), and I'm hungry. No, I'm HANGRY. I need food. Now. I was craving something protein filled, filling, and salty. Mmmm...MSG. I don't know if King Doh uses MSG or not, but for the sake of my story, let's just pretend that they do, okay? So...where was I? Right. MSG. I needed it. King Doh has been on my radar for quite some time, and Chinese food sounded amazing, so I went for it. I gave them a call and placed an order for my go-to dish: boneless hot braised chicken. The friendly woman on the line asked me if it was for carryout or delivery. Woah, they deliver now? This must be a new thing, because previous Yelp reviews said they didn't. However, I wasn't feeling lazy on this particular night, so I opted to pick it up. By the time I arrived (about 10 minutes later), my order was ready. I resisted the urge to rip open the box and gobble it down in my car, and instead drove home so I could enjoy it there. So...how was it? It was pretty good! The white rice was fluffy and delicious, and the hot braised chicken was pretty amazing, too. They were REALLY generous with the portion, and it was flavorful and had a bit of a spicy kick to it. Yum. I've yet to experience boneless hot braised chicken as good as the stuff at Bo Fung (seriously. AMAZING), but this came a little close.
