Amazing Chef / Owner - AVI ZENATTI If there was a 7 star option, I would gladly give it and it would be GENUINE 7 star rating. Not only was the restaurant service great but the Owner / Chef AVI came to our table where 6 of us were seated for Dinner and spent time talking to us. When I told him we would love family style and some Vegeterian choices since 3 of our group were vegetarians so we will let you decide what to serve. First came the Vegeterian food - all very good but the Tomato Salad , Falafel and Shakshuka were outstanding which is an understatement. We are not big eaters but AVI insisted we try his selections and HE WAS PERSONALLY COOKING FOR US ! The next was Chicken Kebob platter really unbelievably tasty and we told them to stop since we were full but Avi's hospitality knew no bounds. A couple years ago we had KoPita on a food tour and really enjoyed it, so we decided to make a reservation for Valentine's Day. When we made a reservation on the website there was no mention of a pre fixe menu. Not on the website, and not with the reservation. We went intending to get light appetizers, but when we arrived we were told that the only option was a 55 dollar per person menu. While we were annoyed by the bait and switch we decided to stay because there was no chance of getting a table anywhere else. I'll start by saying that I Know that Valentine's Day is historically very busy, but over half the tables in the restaurant were empty, and I've been in significantly busier environments where I still received a high level of service. In this instance, saying that we were dismissed by the staff was an understatement. My wife was sat while I was parking, and when I joined her I wasn't even acknowledged by the staff. We asked one question the server who was dropping off the food snapped at us and acted extremely irritated that we even addressed her while she dropped the food off. We asked for tea because we knew that was one of their specialties. The response that was snapped back was "no tea tonight, if you want drinks go pay at the bar, it's separate." The table beside us seemed to clearly be VIPs as the were in fact served several pots of tea. All in all the staff made us feel like we were an inconvenience and they didn't want us to be in the restaurant. The exception was a very nice server wearing a light colored dress, she was very kind, which only made everyone else's disdain all the more evident by contrast. The food itself was just ok. Course 1: salads, it had fruit and fresh vegetables. It was excellent. Course 2: zucchini and eggplant with beef. It was well cooked but the sauce was extremely bland. Course 3: chicken stuffed with liver. This was gross, not even edible. Course 4: leg of lamb with rice. Once again the meat was well prepared, but it here was almost no seasoning. The rice that came with it was undercooked and kinda tough. Course 5: It was listed as braised beef brisket, but it was just an unseasoned pot roast. I expected Mediterranean food to be presented with a significantly more interesting range of flavor profiles. Course 6: Baklava, really great! The layers were crisp and the flavor was smooth. All that to say, it wasn't anywhere near worth the cost, I went for a light dinner and only had the option of buying a heavy 6 course menu. Other tables were given service and we were treated as an annoyance. The location was very convenient, so they have that going for them... which is nice. read more

I booked a reservation for Valentine's Day evening before a show downtown. I have been looking forward to several of the regular menu items (beet salad and their pita/hummus) as well as the Moroccan mint tea. The reservation was made several weeks in advance as tables downtown on Valentine's Day would be a premium. When I arrived to the restaurant I was greeted by a hostess and seated at a table near window with the lovely view of Gay Street. The space was clean, though I noticed several stressed servers. I was not provided with a menu when I sat down. The hostess returned a few minutes later and handed me a standing prefix menu stating "this is what we will be serving tonight." There was no mention of a prefix menu at the time of the reservation. A Pre-fix menu was not mentioned in any of their communication online or on their social media page. It very much felt like a bait and switch for an expensive six course meal. We decided to stay because there would be no other options downtown on a holiday on such notice. The process of how we would be served was never explained. I waved down a waiter to ask for a drink menu, and was told that they had water and anything else is separate and ordered from the bar (not a part of the restaurant).. The food itself was good though I would not have ordered several of the items myself. I especially enjoyed the salad, bread, baklava, and cous cous. The meat dishes were very simply seasoned but well made if not my preference. Portions were generous. I guess what is most frustrating is that we did not consent to a prefix menu at the time of reservation (but then we're stuck on a holiday with no other options)and the quality of the service overall felt like we were an annoyance to the staff for asking questions when the process was never explained at the time of seating. For food only I'd give this restaurant four out of five stars, but our experience was lack-luster for such an expensive meal. read more

How have I been sleeping on this place for so long?!? Went here before a show at the Tennessee Theater. Nicely appointed restaurant inside of the Embassy Suites hotel. Sat outside to enjoy the beautiful weather, great view to people watch, and asked them to serve us chef's choice. Absolutely blown away by the quality of the food and flavors of the dishes. It is now my new favorite Mediterranean restaurant in town for authentic cuisine. The staff also had a great sense of humor and were very attentive. Come early and enjoy! read more

AMAZING! Stopped in earlier that day to check out the menu. I have to admit that I was very skeptical as it was in a hotel. The menu was small but everything on it looked really really good so we went back for dinner. We were greeted and seated immediately, and left with the same menu that I looked at earlier that day. Huge salad!! And freaking delicious!!!!!! I had to try their falafel, which is my M O at any Mediterranean restaurant, and say that they also passed with FLYING COLORS!! For entrees, we got the Beef/Lamb Skewer Kabobs and the Chicken Schnitzel. Both were so awesome that It'd make you "Wanna slap yo mama"!! The Kabobs were sooooo tasty, spiced perfectly and cooked to perfection! They were served with a purple shredded coleslaw, delicious rice pilaf with lentils and an absolutely perfect homemade pita bread. Our other entree was the Chicken Schnitzel. Most of these reviews share my same great experience but I want to leave a review anyway as a reference when I come back. Came here for lunch and although it is a bit overpriced, the food, service and ambience makes up for it! Shared the Mezze for 2 and this was the perfect way to try several things. Portions were larger than expected that we even had leftovers to take home! Our server was very attentive and helped us pick out some great choices for mix and matching the salads/sides that come with the mezze. We tried a corn and pepper salad, eggplant, and one with cucumber and tomato. Also had the hummus, baba ghanoush, and tahini. The pitas were thicker than usual and so flaky and delicious. Loved the cucumber salad but enjoyed bites of the other two as well. Tahini didn't stand out for us but the falafel and the baba ghanoush were some of the best I've ever had. Next time, we want to try the Shawarma and some of the other meat dishes since we kept it vegetarian. He was out of baklava that day but I really want to try that next time. read more

I'm shocked to say this because I LOVE authentic Mediterranean, but honestly, I wasn't a big fan at KoPita. I had higher expectations due to other Yelp reviews. I got the chicken shawarma pita which came with a side of rice. The rice was a lot crunchier than expected and didn't have a lot of flavor. The chicken shawarma was okay, but it wasn't my favorite. I am from New York, and so didn't know what to expect from a Mediterranean restaurant in Tennessee. Four of our friends from the area had heard about this place and wanted to try it. Our server came promptly and recommended that we try family style so that we could sample many dishes, and that's what we ordered. Soon the dishes started coming out to the table. Found Kopita via the Happy Cow app, which had the wrong address. They are no longer a stand alone restaurant, but are located inside the Embassy Suites hotel. The hotel lobby and public areas are very nice and appear to be recently updated; this also carries over to Kopita, which is upstairs once you enter the hotel. The menus are very nice and have a "vegan" and "meat" section. I appreciate this added touch with all the vegan items grouped together. I had to inquire if the falafel was "also" gluten free, and our server said she didn't think it was but would check if I wanted her to. I asked her to please do so and the chef indicated it was. I'd recommend for the next printing of the menu that they consider adding a GF or GFO next to items that are already gluten free or that are gluten free optional. That just saves both the guest, server and chef from having to take the time to address it. On to the food: got the Hummus Bowl. The hummus was delicious and creamy. Being gluten free, I couldn't eat the pita which looked deliciously soft and tasty. The hummus did come with some vegetables but next time I'd ask for more since I can't eat the bread. I also might order a side of rice to give it a bit more substance. It comes with olive oil and I think I would personally ask to leave that off since the hummus was already delightfully creamy and I like to limit oil when possible. Also had some of the falafel bowl and the falafel were made to perfection. The food far exceeded my expectations and I'm looking forward to our next visit. We also ordered the Hot Moroccan Mint Tea. It was served in a cute silver tea pot which was a nice touch. Our server was prompt, efficient and pleasant. Terrible . We just had dinner with a group of six and had a bad experience. This is one of the hotel restaurants . Two of us, including myself ordered the same entree, it includes five salads. The hostess had to be chased down in order for us to seated . Then another person took our order. Then another brought the food. The time spent in between was also exorbitant and certainly not a normal experience. Anyway getting back to the service of the food, what was brought out was only my order and set up in a very confusing manner. When the server eventually returned, over 30 minutes later, none of the people were served and we asked about the other person's food, who also ordered the same entree . The waitress was extremely abrupt and rude, not bothering to even apologize for the delay with bringing out the food in the first place. As for the food... First time coming to this laid back and aesthetically pleasing restaurant. The waitress said this location has been open for about a year because pretty sure there was another restaurant before this. We ordered a Hummus Bowl for appetizer and 4 Pitas with side salads for the main entrees. It took bit longer for the food to come, but it's totally worth it because everything was freshly made. The hummus bowl came with small salad and the most fluffiest pitas I've ever had. Oh..my..god. The hummus itself was creamy, filled with chickpeas, olive oil and spices. You can taste the freshness and super filling. The small salad had tomatoes, cucumber, pickle, banana pepper & pickled eggplant (burgundy vegetable). Now for the "side salad," that is not a side salad, it's more of an entree...lol. We were so full off the salad and the appetizer that we just took the pitas home. The pitas were delicious and the rest of the family ate too. Little bland, but add hot sauce to spice it up. Highly recommend this place! It won't disappoint you! This location deserves more hype! This restaurant has moved across the street from where google and yelp has it, at the time of writing. It is on the second floor of the Embassy Suites building. It is a fancy business-type space with a covered outdoor balcony. The menu was presented to me as a full page of vegan items, with some other alternatives and drinks on the back. Whatever the non-alcoholic Israeli beer they had on the menu was, it was not in stock, but I did land a delicious mint tea instead (for free). My falafel pita delivered quality falafel, with a great textural balance and robust garlic flavor that lasted through every bite. The other fillings were a bit odd. The sauerkraut they put in there is quite strong and also very stringy and doesn't respond that well to attempts to bite into a sandwich. The cucumber salad and pickles in addition were not my favorite; I find they detract from the falafel flavor rather than enhancing it, and I wished their menu offered some different options. Still, while it wasn't the best vegetarian-friendly Israeli restaurant I tried in Knoxville (amazingly enough), the place has some quality to offer. read more
