I'm the only one in the family who loves authentic gyros, so I came here alone through the drive-thru two days ago. (Right now that is the only thing open during this covid pandemic as the dining area is closed). It was 8:42pm, the place closes at 9pm daily, and there was a long line. That's a good sign. I could see at least six people hustling in the kitchen preparing orders. I agree with reviewers who say the place looks old and in dire need of an upgrade. It wouldn't be my first choice if driving through town for the first time. It does offer hamburgers and hot dogs for those who do not like gyros. I ordered a gyro platter for $12. It comes with two pitas, a hefty portion of meat, tomatoes, feta and onion, and fries. Tsatziki sauce comes in a small covered container. I ended up getting three meals out of that, by far one of the best deals in the area. Meat and pita were soft. The feta was cut in rather large cubes and I prefer feta crumbled, but that is a minor complaint. I'm now more curious to try the other King Gyros in the area. read more

This is one of valpos "hole in the wall" restaurants, as well as my favorite. Their food has never disappointed me in the 15 years that I've lived in this area. My favorite is the full slab of ribs with an extra side of fries and BBQ sauce. They're tender fall off the bone, full of flavor, and have probably the one of the best BBQ sauces in town. On top of that the service is awesome. The cahsiers are always sweet and their cooks are always working hard back there. read more

I've been eating at King Gyro's for well over ten years. From the first hot dog special I nabbed when I was 14 doing dork stuff up the street at Galactic Greg's, to the present day. The food is good and consistent. Consistent for over a decade. That's crazy, not many other restaurants can say that. I also appreciate that they haven't attempted to bring in the hyper polite nonsense you get everywhere else. If I hear one more food service employee say "my pleasure" I'm going to go berserk, but I digress. These are good people making good food for good prices, they don't need to smear you with fake niceties. This is getting a little long winded. The short of it is that King Gyro's is one of the few things that makes Valpo home for me. I'm sure it could be that way for everyone else, too. read more

Then I went to pick it up in the drive-thru. It was slow, but it was a busy Saturday night. The service was always friendly whether on the phone of in person. I took home a ton of food for a really good price. We ordered Italian beef, chili dog, hamburgers, a few orders of fries, fried zucchini, fried mushrooms, mozzarella sticks, & pitas. They certainly didn't hip us on quantity. The Italian beef was huge and everyone was full when finished. The food was awesome and the price was fair!!! Service with a smile....Yep! My dad has been bringing me here since I was little! I've been sick and was home visiting my parents, so they took me here for the chicken lemon rice soup. Absolutely delicious. The gyros platter is also amazing here, my parents split it and I had a bite. There were even leftovers between the two of them, definitely worth the money. I think it's funny how the other reviewers say they've been coming here for years, or their dad took them here when they were little. I'm going to have to say the same. I've been eating here for over 20 years.. it's never changed and that's what I love be about it. Consistency is key.
