Called got an estimate for $100 flat for my standard car key. They never mentioned "service fee" in the quote. Got here after everything was done and I asked for total he mentions "service fee" $30. I stated to him neither he or the company he worked for mentioned a service fee & he stated to me "it's common sense" uhm excuse me? Common sense is to mention all applicable charges in the quote. I called and requested a quote from this company and told the person I spoke with that I would get back with them on whether I would need their services. They sent a tech out anyways and charged my husband $70 to unlock our vehicle and to retrieve the keys. I couldn't speak with my husband since he also left his cell in the vehicle. (He called from a borrowed phone).I would not recommend even calling this company for a quote. If a customer ask for a quote, you shouldn't take advantage of them. I called King Key Locksmith to open an outdoor gate, the latch of which would no longer budge despite the key turning in the keyhole. The recipient of my call could not offer me a quote without first inspecting the latch but did mention he could send a locksmith anytime of day and would charge a $15 service fee if I did not proceed with the job. I asked whether debit/credit cards were an acceptable method of payment, and I was advised affirmatively. I set up an appointment for the same day at 7:30 PM. The locksmith, John, arrived promptly and was very courteous and efficient. He explained the deterioration of the latch and suggested an upgrade to a much sturdier deadbolt, advising me that he would have to widen the existing hole to house the deadbolt on the receiving side of the double gate. I was hesitant to have any company other than Artistic Iron Works, who manufactured my custom gate, do any drilling or sawing, but John set me at ease that he was very precise with his work, and he quoted me $120 for the job. Before I contacted King Key, I did consult Artistic Iron Works regarding the problem, and they offered a replacement and installation of the same hardware for $250 so I decided to proceed especially as John was very kind and reassuring. John did perfect work, and I am pleased with the deadbolt. My complaint does not pertain to the work. As I was paying for the service, John started at $240, and I reminded him that he quoted $120. He apologized, and I believed it was an honest slip of mind, but he then added a $40 service fee as well as a 10% credit card fee taking the price up to $176. I didn't mention the fact that I was informed of a $15 service fee, not $40, and figured that this may have increased due to the complexity of the job. I did protest, though, that I was never advised of a 10% credit card fee, and when John attempted to rationalize this fee, I retorted that I should have been informed of this fee beforehand as I inquired about this method of payment during my phone call. John agreed, and he cut the fee in half as a conciliatory gesture. I blame myself that I didn't protest further, but I feel cheap when I have to squabble over a relatively small amount even when I am right. MasterCard charges up to a 4% fee--certainly not 10%--and it is a breach of the merchant contract with MasterCard to charge compensatory fees. Ultimately, "We can do it for $120" means exactly $120--no more, no less. I ended up paying $170, which is better than $250, but I can't help but feel a little tricked. My husband called for someone to come unlock my car, when we called he said he would be there in 5 to 10 mins. Which was a lie. I get a text for me to send a ping for my location. After 45 mins they finally show in an unmarked vechile. The guy barely speaks English. They place air pump bags in the door to try and get it unlocked. Took him about 20 mins after he looked like he struggled. They quoted us 60 and that's what they advertise. When he finally got it unlocked, it was 65 plus they charge 23.00 service call which they don't tell you. My total was 102. He says 8.25 state tax. In my book it comes out to about 98 bucks but they scam you for more money. I texted the person and he quit responding. Never again. And it's not 60.00 like they quote you. Called King Key Locksmith after accidentally locking ourselves out of our apartment. They were friendly and prompt to respond. The technician was at our place within 30 minutes, he was very knowledgeable and explained what needed/could be done. Our door was open in less than three minutes. Unfortunately their prices are a bit high, it cost us $250 dollars because we have a "smart lock" not a digital lock, just the kind that can't be easily picked. After performing the service he stated to me that he doesn't take Groupon and that he is charging me full price. I knew something was not right because he was the only person we contacted.
