Sometimes all you need to turn a long week around is a really good ice cream sundae. That's exactly where I found myself on a Friday evening in late July. I was in Hummelstown with no real plans, a loudly growling stomach and one very specific craving...ice cream. I'd probably driven past King Kone a hundred times over the years without ever stopping. For whatever reason, this was finally the night. I pulled into the parking lot around 7:30 p.m. and was pleasantly surprised to find plenty of parking, even on a beautiful summer evening. There were lots of people enjoying ice cream, but almost no line inside, which my stomach appreciated immensely. I quickly realized a cone or a bowl wasn't going to cut it. This needed to be a sundae. One of the things I love about King Kone is that many of their sundaes have fun jungle-themed names. After spending a few minutes studying the menu, I settled on the Elephant's Delight, which came to about $10.50. When I placed my order, I looked at the gentleman behind the counter and said, "It's been a long week. Can you take a couple extra minutes and put some good vibes into that sundae for me?" Without missing a beat, he smiled and said..."Absolutely." A few minutes later, he made eye contact across the room and handed me what can only be described as a bowl of ice cream the size of my head. I completely lost my composure. Right there, in the middle of a busy ice cream shop, I audibly squealed and told him, "You are making my dreams come true right now!" I wasn't exaggerating! And I think every person inside King Kone Creamery that night was aware of my excitement. Absolutely no regrets! The sundae was absolutely enormous, piled high with whipped cream, crowned with a perfect cherry and loaded with enough peanut buttery goodness to make my approximately 63.8% peanut butter personality feel completely understood. I carried my masterpiece outside and found a picnic table overlooking the beautiful property behind the shop. It was the perfect place to slow down, enjoy the evening and devote the next half hour of my life entirely to that sundae. The ice cream was fantastic. The toppings were incredibly generous, and I especially appreciated that everything was served in a large bowl instead of a tiny cup that would've had me wearing half of it before I finished. Every bite felt like the reward for surviving a very long week. King Kone turned out to be one of those places that's been hiding in plain sight all these years. Great ice cream, friendly people, generous portions and exactly the kind of place you hope an old-school neighborhood ice cream stand will be. Needless to say, it won't take me another hundred drive-bys before I stop again! read more

This was our first visit here since we are not locals. We arrived 15 min early, did not realize it only opened at 3pm. We did wait but it was exceptionally hot outside. So when the girls were setting up the outdoors they were so kind to let us in the air conditioning to wait till they were ready for us. They were so nice and welcoming. I got the mango ice ice cream and it was amazing! Super refreshing on such a hot day with the taste of ice cream still. The family was leaving Hersheypark on an extremely hot day and we needed a place to cool off. Found this not far away and went inside to treat everyone. Everything is simple but very effective. The ice cream is Hershey branded, not house made, but the prices are reasonable, portions are generous, and the staff was friendly and efficient. We stopped by late on a friday night to try some local ice cream. The place gives a nice, homey vibe. There was a little patio with picnic benches and lights so you could sit outside, and inside there were small tables and a restroom too. My most favorite icecream is the Coconut Chocolate Almond and though I think I will get a different flavor, the minute I reach the shop I always switch back to Coconut Choc Almond just because I remember how good it was the last time. I am super surprised by the lack of yelp reviews as this local establishment is clearly a gem! King Kone is clearly the King Kong of ice cream! The portion size was huge; I didn't expect a small soft serve to be 6 inches long. The texture was very creamy and flavor was the perfect amount of sweet. The lime flavor tasted like a lime Italian soda. There are so many flavor options that there will be something for everyone in your group. We've always enjoyed this place even despite their long wait times. That said, our most recent visit a few days ago was pretty off-putting.. younger girl working the window decided to give herself a 20% tip on the card reader when handing it back to me. (I knew it was incorrect as she had just told me the total a moment before.) We have ALWAYS tipped here although this isn't common practice for most other local ice cream shops, but I did not appreciate it being expected. I amended the total back to the original amount, then heard the workers complaining about not receiving a tip. Please do better at teaching customer service. Horrible customer service. Whoever the girl is with the mask on that says "Smile with your eyes" I did not appreciate your attitude or the way you slammed the drive through window. I simply stated to you that I thought you may have given me the wrong flavor. No harm, no foul. It could have been a simple fix. Just make it right. No need for the sassy attitude. I would not recommend getting any of the flavored soft serve flavors. They are, according to, "smile with your eyes," face mask girl, flavored with syrup and they all, " taste like that," "that" being that they don't taste at all like the flavor you order, in my case it was pina colada. I would recommend ordering the hand scooped ice cream if you decide to go here, not the soft serve. I have had positive experiences here before, which is why I gave this place 3 stars. It's not a real creamery but serves Hershey ice cream. The soft serve was good. They offer it in 34 flavors. They add flavored syrup to the soft serve and mix it. The coffee Hershey ice cream was good too. The chocolate shake was super chocolatey. It had hard chocolate ice cream, chocolate syrup, and chocolate milk. Would recommend! read more

Stopped I this place for an afternoon treat and it was pretty quiet on a Tuesday afternoon. There were 2 older men working and they were really nice. I ordered 2 single scoops and 1 waffle cup with 3 scoops for $11. I didn't think that was bad. To use your credit card you need to spend the minimum of $10. I was sad their soft serve vanilla wasn't working but their premium Hershey brand of cappuccino crunch was good. This was coffee ice cream with toffee and dark chocolate. Where is the Pa Dept of Health?? This is unacceptable!! The server didn't understand that the waffle cone she wanted to serve me was totally disgusting....she rolled her eyes and walked over to the case to get another waffle cone. Her attitude alone I should have walked out, but I didn't. She was "hassled" by me requesting a fresh CLEAN waffle cone. I will NEVER go back to King Kone Creamery. King Kone is a great little ice cream spot right on 39 on your way to the attractions in Hershey. They have seating inside and outside and have a cute little play area outside for the kids with tables that overlook a farm and a pond. Its really a beautiful view. They have soft serve (34 flavors I think!) and hard ice cream too! They have a ton of yummy flavors and any topping you can imagine. Plus they have a variety of cones. You can be creative and make your own sundae or shake. If ice cream is not your thing you can grab a slush puppy or even a hot dog!
