I have purchased their freshly made sushi numerous times and have never been disappointed. There's a lovely lady that actually makes it daily right there where the sushi are all displaced. The package are between $7.99 and $11.99 but in the afternoon they are reduced. I guess it's way way for not eating food so they sell faster. It is still very fresh and delicious. The employees of King Kullen carry the town of Mineola on their back and it is not talked about enough. My trip to King Kullen each week is always filled with friendly interactions with staff. From the cashiers, to the seafood man, the bakery team, and the sweet man that stocks the bananas....I always leave this location feeling a little happier. This is touted as a family run business. Well, it shows that this family is clueless about how to run a supermarket. King Kullen has the highest prices of any store. This store is a ghost town. With Lidl across the street, you would think they would be more competitive but no. Stop and Shop, Shoprite are far more cheaper than here. I don't know how you have a business plan as to drive customers away because you won't be competitive with your prices. You don't even pass on the savings when certain brands are on sale. Just look at the flyers you get each week and you see all the other stores have a sale on the same products but are way cheaper than here. Let's say Nabisco has a sale in the other stores that is $1 or more off a package of cookies. You won't see any savings here. King Kullen is still getting the discount from Nabisco but keeping it all for themself. Or a 2-liter Pepsi is on sale at the other stores for 5 for $5 and you still charge $2.50 per bottle. That goes for a lot brands that other stores have their sales posted so that brings in customers. Your business plan is the opposite, charge more and drive away customers. As far as the sore goes it is a very clean store and the people who work there are always nice. I'm sure if you get the right people to help run corporate and be competitive you would do much better and not be on the verge of closing. I'm giving a low score just because of your high prices and sharing the savings the brands give to you. read more

With Lidl opening nearby soon, it's probably the end of 6 years of shopping here. Why? One, the service isn't friendly. It's not rude but people see me all the time and act like they've never seen me before. There's no loyalty program. Prices are very often higher than at whole foods whether it's for chicken breasts or produce. The produce here is just ok. The seafood isnt great. The product selection is just ok. The paper bags are of the cheapest quality and lack handles. If king kullen wants to compete I suggest they consider what I've written. read more

My only issues are their loud girly-pop music that most stores seem to think is a good idea, and the bottle & can recycling area behind the store at the edge of the parking lot. Every time I go to recycle my bottles and cans there are at least two machines full or out of order. They don't seem to be monitoring the situation well. And the employees who finally come to empty/reset the machines always seem to be pissed that they have to do it. Otherwise, the store is clean and well-stocked, and their grab & go roast chicken near the deli area is usually good and larger than I've seen at Costco. read more

I was in the neighborhood so why not do my weekly grocery shopping at this store was what I thought. I have never been to any King Kullen branch during my lifetime and I would say this is not my typical grocery store- it is a SUPER market as I viewed it. I enjoyed my hour of domesticated chore for the first time in years. Glad I have decided to stopped by. They have all the things that probably listed in your weekly grocery shopping list. I enjoyed most their bakery. The bakery department carries some specialty breads that can only be seen in a local bakery but not in a grocery market. Which grocery store can you find a cannoli chips with dip platter ? Which local grocery store can you find fresh baked special breads e.g. pumpernickel, brioche etc? I loved their deli and meat section as well. Quick check out. The entire staff seems nice. I love that they carry a smile on their faces while working. It gave me a heartwarming shopping experience. The entire supermarket is big, lots of space to walk by , wide aisles, well lit, full staff and has organized stocking and massive selections. I cant contain myself not to shop anything that catches my attention especially in the organic and vegan aisles. Inspect your fruit before you check out! I bought a box of berries and I found some mold in there, to my dismay. The box of berries was also incredibly expensive, like $7 for a small box. Granted it was a variety pack (raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries) but I was a bit disappointed by the flavor too. I also bought some mini rice pudding jars and realized that they were a few days past the best by/sell by date. I just do not get this way for groceries, everything else, yes, groceries no, but this place was my stop at place today, and what a great experience. I was only getting a few things, but I did make it through the store and contained myself from doing a BIG shop. The floral department was great as I scored roses for $5.99 a dozen. I picked up two different colors for my fabulously fabulous mother-in-law. Next the bakery. Even late in the day this bakery had quite a variety. Muffins and cupcakes of all flavors. Black and white cookies, Oatmeal raisin, chocolate chips and the list goes on. The produce section was next to the bakery and everything looked great, but hey, who needs veggies when you have cupcakes! All the way through the store, the employees were asking me if they could help me find anything. Am I in New York? No one store employees, other than in Fairway has ever asked me if I needed any assistance before. Great customer service. The employees were all nicely dressed and they seemed happy to be working. Impressive! I did my thing at self check out and headed out with my three bags. Although I probably would not make a special trip to shop here just because it's a bit too far from home, I must say that those who live nearby are lucky to have this great store. read more

This store has all the requirements of my grocery superstore...It is brightly lit, the spacious aisles are always clean, and the signs in the right spots. Its a good supermarket to stop in since is located right on Jericho Tpke in Garden City Park and has plenty of parking. I want to make special note of their bakery. The pies, cakes and other specialty items are spectacular!!! I am always amazed at the low prices I pay here versus the same item bought in a stand-alone bakery for the same (if not better quality.) They also have a great deli department that is both well stock and well staffed by a good team who understand what "a thin slice versus a thick slice" is supposed to be. They have clearly gotten much busier since they closed the King Kullen in Mineola and it's good to see that most of the staff was able to be moved. King Kullen is certainly a family oriented group of stores and will continue to get my business. read more

Nice place, big, clean and stocked well. Prices tend to be a bit higher than most other supermarkets. The l;last few times i've shopped there i've not had a very nice experience as far as the workers go. They seem annoyed that they have to work. They don't smile, return greetings and some act as if they were asked to their job when asked for help, especially at the self-help register and the courtesy desk. Maybe they're having a bad day but when dealing w/the public, leave your issues at home. It seems just the morning crew is like this as i've been there after noontime and the cashiers were much more personable. Maybe the morning crew needs more sleep or something. I don't enjoy helping to pay one's salary and being ignored when saying, "good morning,how are you today?" The bakery area is fantastic as are the workers there along with the deli area although I've only been to those areas a couple times. Also, there have been a couple times that my wife was approached ( from out of nowhere )in the parking lot, by a person asking for money. One woman actually banged on her car window after she got in the car. Scared the poop outta my wife who did not see her until she banged on window. This was in the daylight hours too. I've not been hassled as of yet but i expect at some point, i will be. When a woman is approached, it's a whole different story. Anyway, maybe management will read this and suggest the workers be a bit more personable, especially in the morning AND also, not to be starring at people on the self-help register as if they're trying to get away with something. I felt like the guy thought I was going to put a gallon of water in my pocket and run! My wife also had a snotty attitude given her when she made an error on the register. God forbid we make a mistake. I bought a few packages of Perdue Drumsticks, "Manager's Special." I've been cooking for a long time and this was the 1st time I actually had to trim ( what looked like )"hair/feathers" from the drumsticks. Never had to this before whenever/wherever I bought chicken or at least I never saw it if the chicken had any feathers still attached. Fellas, you need to take your time with this stuff. I like this place. Having shopped at the previous King Kullen location in Mineola for the past 20 years the new location is a welcome change. The store is much bigger and well organized. Let's talk about the Deli Kiosk, I love it! As soon as you walk in the door you can place your deli order and go on about your shopping. They page you either on the overhead speakers or even on your cell phone if you choose. No more deli lines! My biggest gripe at the Mineola King Kullen location was the rude Deli staff that would carry out inappropriate conversations in front of the customers. The new location has so many cameras over the deli I don't think employees can even think about goofing off, or at least I hope so. I'm still learning my way around the aisles to figure things out but I like the way the store is organized. Wide aisles that always seem to be well stocked. I don't often see a lot of restocking going on when I'm shopping so I can only imagine it's handled late at night. Thank you. I am also a fan of the cappuccino machine in produce. Always a great way to start a shopping trip! I like the bakery department here too. My only complaint there would be that it seems like they run out of rolls way to fast. Need to start baking more! Trying to find Kaiser Rolls late in the day is impossible. Nice selection in the meat department too. We've found the staff in the butcher area very helpful. Thumbs up for them! As with any supermarket the milk is buried back in the farthest corner from the front door, I always find that interesting. Stick with the King Kullen brand milk if you want to save money. The color schemes on the containers make it easy to confuse the King Kullen brand with its competitor Tuscan. You end up paying a lot more for Tuscan. Speaking of saving money, they double coupons up to $1. That can add up the savings quickly if you clip even just a few coupons. At checkout there always seems to be cashiers available, I hope that doesn't change. The lines are minimal at best. I like the self checkout options too. Overall impression, it's a well run, well organized store. They've taken the lessons learned from the now closed Mineola location and applied them here to this "new & improved" location. This is a review only for the bottle redemption center located outside of the store. I Come here about once per week to return empty bottles and cans. They have a very nice, clean and ample sized redemption center in the rear. There are 6 total machines, two for each of the glass, plastic and cans. The best part is they accept almost every bottle and can regardless of where you purchased it. They even accept CVS brand and many others. read more

I went to this king Kullen the other day. I was very disappointed at the deli counter. I shopped here before and I never had a problem. I asked one of the staff if they had pita bread. He told me he doesn't know look in front the counter which I did .I did not find the type I am looking for He walked away instead of waiting until I find what I'm looking for.so I got his attention again and ask him for the one I'm looking for. He seem to be very reluctant to assist. Answer I got from him was with the carefree attitude oh I don't know. I continue to ask him is there anywhere else in the store it maybe he did not even answer me and his Body language tells me enough. At that point I said I'm wasting my time here. (I went to another grocery store and get what I was looking for. Plus service with a smile. )At this king Kullen the bakery department I've gotten extremely good service. But this particular employee at a deli Needs to know the Importance Of customer service. Supermarkets are having a strain of business you want to keep customers you don't want to chase them away. Two things come to mind when you walk in: clean and spacious. Things actually feel updated here as opposed to the old King Kullen. One of the nifty things is that you can put your deli order in, then continue shopping and wait for your order to be called. You might miss the free deli samples, but at least shopping can be made more efficient. I also appreciate that this supermarket never gets nearly as busy as Stop & Shop, Pathmark and Waldbaum's. read more

I recently shopped at the King Kullen in Garden City Park to buy a gallon of bottled spring water. It came to $2.49 with tax and I only had $20 bills. The female cashier asked me if I had a smaller bill and I said no sorry, not today. I always try to pay as close to the exact amount as possible but I didn't have anything smaller. The cashier was visibly annoyed at me and said she just opened the register and doesn't have much cash yet, as if that is my fault somehow. I suggested that I would go to the other cashier. She gave me a firm no and told me to wait while she went to the office for change. So now I am waiting a couple of minutes because she opened her register with not even $17 in it and I am the problem according to her. She came back with the change and was clearly still pissed off at me. Instead of apologizing for the delay which was her and the store's fault she was scowling at me. King Kullen is a major grocery chain on Long Island and brags it was the nation's first supermarket yet a $20 bill totally flummoxed their cashier and she turned her wrath on me. Besides the nasty cashier, there really is no reason to shop at this store. Prices on just about everything are higher than other local supermarkets. In fact the only item this store had at a lower price was bottled spring water and that went up from $1.79 a gallon to $2.29 in about a week. If the business reads this, teach your cashiers some manners and be able to handle a $20 bill for payment. read more

I am a fan of King Kullen but I really miss the one in Mineola that closed in October. The staff there was much more friendly. Their deli carried chopped chicken liver and apparently this one does, too but it is a hassle to buy it. The people behind the deli counter are never thrilled when we order it and have said that they aren't even sure they carry it. One guy insists that it is in the prepackaged section and it never is. It is really frustrating to try to purchase it since we always meet with opposition. The self-checkout works well which is a bonus and all the refrigerated food is stored in environmentally friendly refrigerators which is fantastic and makes items easy to find. read more

Inside the store it is clean, spacious, the workers are very friendly no matter what time of the day it is, there is a lot of variety in the selection, not a lot of people shop there so the lines are short. The prices are a little more expensive than other stores nearby which is probably why it's not as crowded. The biggest problem is the foul smell coming from the dumpsters in the back. It emanates to the houses that are situated around the store. It's not nice to sit in your backyard and smell rotting garbage. It's even worse when it is hot and humid. Never had this problem when Pathmark was there. I already called the store and left a message. Hopefully the store manager will do something about it. read more

The staff are nice and the sales are usually pretty good, The bakery has some really nice stuff. And the young girl there is super sweet. I will try to be quick but it will be hard..I used to shop at King Kullen as far back to when they were in bayside on northern blvd, and I use to shop at the kullen on Jericho turnpike in syosset. I very rarely went to the Kullen in Mineola but when this one opened on Jericho turnpike, I decided recently to give it a shot..... all the while living in Shoprite on Marcus ave because they are awesome!!! Anyway, I went to this location the other morning around 1130am, they had about 30 people in the store but the lot was filled? I walked into the produce department and was the only person there looking at the produce, cherry tomatoes were 299, pineapples 299, grapes 249??? It's no wonder with all these things being in season, the prices would be so obscene!!! The supermarket was so empty, that the air conditioning was killing me, there was no body heat in the place because no one was there! And you can blame their prices!!! They give you buy one get one, but outside of that, I will never go back! Their meats were sky high, it was so ridiculous and yet sad! I rang out after dropping 100, and the woman basically threw my change at me, as it fell, I told her, wow, you must really want to get rid of me? She started laughing and I ended our conversation with, what are you laughing at, the store is empty??I will never go back! In fact the only good thing about this store is that they have a change machine which converts your coin into paper! This place stinks, the prices are obscene, and the customer service stinks!! P.S.. left Kullen went over to Shoprite, paid 99 cents for cherry tomatoes, 1.97 for a pineapple, and 1.49 for grapes! Honestly this store has great merchandise and prices are fair. Customer service is extremely lacking. I checked out in self-checkout and needed assistance. The two employees could hardly be bothered and I was waiting for too long when it was an empty store and an associate was right next to me! Let me first say that I understand it's not easy working in a supermarket and dealing with the public as I've done this job. HOWEVER, if this is the job you have accepted, then put a smile on your face, be grateful to be working and understand you are in a service industry. We spend our hard earned money buying the necessities of life and it would be so nice if coming to King Kullen in Garden City Park could be a good shopping experience. The store looks nice and they have a good selection of items, but OMG, some of these employees are really miserable and they give off such horrible energy, I can't wait to get out of this store. Let's talk about Miss Miserable in the Deli in the mornings. Never once have I seen a smile on her face & I don't think she knows how to smile. God forbid you ask for your meats sliced a particular thickness! I'M PAYING FOR THIS MISS MISERABLE! I now refuse to even go to the deli if she is there because she ruins my morning. If they have pre-sliced in the deli area, I just take one of those. Now..let's move on to the Customer Service Desk. This desk should be renamed "Customer-Dislike Desk" as they seem to hate every customer. The rudeness is off the charts! Again...I steer clear of this desk...Wow! next...The very short woman who works the early morning express line... RUDE!!!! She will start your day off on the wrong foot for sure! There is however a really nice man who also works the register early mornings & he is a gem and a complete gentleman who this store is lucky to have in their employ. The meat manager is cool guy also. These two gentlemen should hold Customer Service Seminars for the entire store.
