Absolute gem of a supermarket. The staff is nice and they're never really packed, so the longest that I've waited in line is around five minutes. I also appreciate how nice they've been to my kids. They never scoff or get annoyed at kids. They even gave my kids candy and cake around the new year. One of the big fish(Moda) had worms inside and also after we cooked it we had diaaharea and vomiting. We spoke to the store manager who didn't have a solution and told us he would look into it and give us a call back. Buy at your own risk and spend your money wisely. Due to Covid and we are not allowed to travel, I find myself shopping in different cultures supermarkets. I truly love the fresh fruits and vegetable section, the spices and all the dried lagoons. The bakery is so vibrant, with its bright color cakes. They play Indian music thru out the store. This Farmers Market has been in my area for a while. They have good prices on most of their items. Vegetables are fresh, a wide variety of spices and this is now our go to place for milk; $2.99/Gallon. There is usually never a long line since it seems to be staffed well. You can go, purchase a few items and be in and out in a quickly. I will be returning to explore more of what Maharaja Farmers Market is all about since they have seem to have a lot to offer. read more

This is now called Maharaja ( fitting as it means Emperor or King of Kings) Farmers Market and the new owner and his team have indeed created a Farmers Market atmosphere and vibe here. The previous owner was a rude individual. It was a matter of time! Love the variety, freshness and quality of fruits and vegetables here. Love that they are open 24 hours. Love the great staff - all of them from the super friendly stock clerks who go the extra mile, not just give you directions and send you hunting; Love the sweet cashiers who are just amazing and speak Punjabi. Love the cleanliness. Love the lighting. Love the organization. Love that the owner jokes around with his team and they smile all the time. This does matter! Looks like management has changed again and it is no longer a Badshah Market. I went recently and the place looks clean and items all stocked, like it was before. Only difference is that the hot bar with snacks, (samosas, ulli vada, medu vada, etc.) is no longer there and the food was in aluminum trays unheated. I think some of the trays were too close to the floor in my opinion. would like to see them on a table or something instead. read more

Usually go here to pick up some veggies but recently picked up a 2L diet pepsi just cause i was having a craving. Went home and tried the diet pepsi and it tasted really really really weird. Checked the expiry date and the expiry date was May 11 2015(i have attached the picture). Wow. Today its June 12 2016. They sell expired stuff from over a year ago!!! I would urge everyone of you reading this check the expiry dates of all the stuff you purchase from maharaja! Besides diet pepsi, also the noodles i purchased from there tasted really weird. I love how organized and clean this supermarket is. Once this opened, I have stopped going to Patel and a large reason why is the way their store is formatted and their cleanliness level. When you enter Maharaja, you are immediately in the aisles that have fresh fruits and vegetables and I work my way through there to the last aisles which are frozen. I have noticed I have been eating fresher foods due to their placement in the store as my basket is full of fresh foods that need prep versus frozen foods. Their subzis and fruits have been fresh and most of the time, they are reasonably priced. At times, I've reached for cauliflower and then put it back seeing it was 4.99 per head. Yikes. Be careful and check the prices of the things you are putting in your cart and don't get dazzled by all the colors =) I am giving this four stars because (1) I see there is no heat in the store and the check-out counters are very close to the doors. It is uncomfortably cold for me here and I can't imagine what the poor employees are going through and (2) my friends have brought anar/pomegranates from here and their fruits were infested with worms. This store has probably the best stock of spices in the area and it's open 24 hours! Where else can you get coriander at 3AM? Everything is so neatly organized and they have a great selection of snacks like dates and desi tea cookies and snacks. I particularly love the different flavors of murrukku that they have. This location has recently been bought out and since then the quality of the produce and service has declined dramatically. The fruits, meat and vegetables are not fresh any longer and on top of that the service is lacking. I ordered 50 samose for a party and was never asked to leave deposit, just leave my name. The manager assured me it'll be ready, just come in and pick it up When I got there turns out they gave my order away to someone else who needed 75 samose!! My party was now missing food. Price gouging in the earlier days of the Corona Virus--I am sure they have expanded the gouging to other many other items by now. I happed to walk in as they were stocking the front of the store with some no-name brand Rubbing Alcohol (12 oz); I asked what the price was, she said $4.99. When I told her it was wrong to inflate the prices, she said "no-no, no increase". I continued shopping, found some Ammonia, got online to pay. When she rang up the Ammonia, it rang up as 6.99 or 7.99 --- when I told her the shelf says $2.19, she said "no, no...", so I told her I would show her. She walked over with me, she saw clear as day--- $2.19. She pulled off the tag, huffed and puffed a bit, and walked back to the register. She changed the price, and ignored me when I told her, "I told you you're increasing the prices..." She ignored me---so here I am, plus I will be filing an online complaint with the Attorney General's office. All the Indian stores on Hillside are now doing this -- 1) ethically--it's disgusting that you would take advantage of your community this way, 2) no--it's not "just business", 3) all it takes is 1 person to file a complaint. I hope anyone going to these stores file that complaint so these horrible business owners will stop. read more

We spent like an hour scanning the shelves at this place looking for all the weird obscure Indian food ingredients for my girlfriend's cooking plans. We found almost everything we needed, and the staff were really helpful. If we hadn't been so full from Southern Spice across the street we would've gotten some of those samosas and other treats that people were scooping up in the front. I usually go to the large Maharaja in Hicksville which is always a wonderful shopping experience. This one in NHP is NOT good!! The men who work there are crazy-rude, very unwelcoming to anyone is not Indian AND they close the store at night!! It is NOT Open 24 hours as they claim!!! I went there around 2am to buy something quick and the door was locked. The guy was standing right there by the door and said they were closed and refused to unlock the door. So, what was that all about?? Why turn away customers?? BTW I find this store very dirty and disorganized compared to the Hicksville location. Cannot believe it's the same company. You guys need to work on your customer service a LOT! If a customer asks a question, they expect an answer and not just odd Sounds and expressions of disgust! Though I've never been abroad aside from a jaunt to Australia, this place smelled like the spice markets I've seen on TV and read about in various publications. Unfortunately, the spices were drowned out by some noxious fumes (customers) and an essence of rotting McDonald's. On top of this, the normal staples of an American bent taint places like this (though I understand the necessity to carry them unfortunately). In a strip mall of markets, I guess these shops are a representation of the neighborhood's ethnic coexistence and evolution. The sign out front of Maharaja is primitive to say the least, but the place doesn't need to attract new shoppers, so I don't foresee them taking any strides accordingly. I received narsty glances from the consequently loyal patrons, perhaps 'cause many folks of my kind have been roaming the aisles since a fairly recent Times piece was published regarding the allegedly extensive spice offerings here (I, for one, could not locate said spice-dedicated area--receiving no service whatsoever, coupled with an assault on my olfactory nerves, I fled). Listed as Maharaja Asian Supermarket in the NYT and by a few names on Yelp (one or two of which you can't check in to, hence my review of this listing), it doesn't seem quite Asian (more Indian, but whadda I know?); it's apparently open Monday to Saturday, from 9-9 and Sunday from 10-8. I went to the New Hyde Park location. Be careful when you buy dairy or refrigerated items, maintenance is not up to par. I bought some organic eggs (which was $1.50 more than national supermarkets), it was completely rotten and my entire house was smelling when i cracked one open. When i tried to return the rotten eggs, the so called "manager" didn't have the courtesy to apologize to me for the lack of maintenance. My experience was terrible.
