    Ridgefield location.

I had LASIK from King LASIK in 2015 and waited to see the outcome before I posted this review. First off, I couldn't be happier about the decision to get LASIK. Life changing. I was so near-sighted, I couldn't read a book as I couldn't get it close enough to my eyes. King LASIK was much more affordable than other options. My husband had a great King LASIK experience in 2010, which is why I chose them. However, I've been having that "you get what you pay for" feeling. Here's how my experience went: BEFORE THE SURGERY First off, the location feels sketchy; it's in an old bank. Secondly, there isn't much in the way of customer service. They rush you through the machines that measure your viability as a LASIK candidate without much explanation. They must do it so often that it makes sense to them (and perhaps it is scientific and super easy to diagnose), but without any explanation or time spent on any one measurement, it felt like a charade. The doctor's exam felt like she'd never been in the exam room before. There was no where for her to put her tools/eye drops (she set them on a stack of papers). She was very cheerful and answered my questions, but again--when you do it so much, it all feels rehearsed. THE SURGERY The procedure itself was successful. They were very kind leading up to it, even letting me squeeze a stuffed animal to help ease me through it. When it was over, I cried--I could see! AMAZING! I hugged the doctor, who really couldn't have cared less (oh well). IMMEDIATELY AFTER They sent me home with a bag of information. All of it had spaces set aside for personalization (as in, when my next appointment was, when to take my drops, etc.) yet they had filled none of it out. AFTERMATH Here's where they dropped the ball. King LASIK serves a lot of patients and I assume there are some legality issues with being completely transparent with customers regarding side effects and complications. I experienced extreme sensitivity to brightness and blurriness in dim light. I went in for the required follow-up appointments, and then two additional appointments specifically about the side effects. The doctor wouldn't explain what had caused them. "Sometimes there are side effects and this falls into the realm of normal symptoms." Like a robot. I asked her point blank about her evading my questions. She still didn't answer. She gave me eye drops for the light sensitivity, which eventually went away. But the blurriness remained. I'm fairly sure I went in for a 3rd appointment--if not, I scheduled it, but didn't go in. I specifically remember speaking to them on the phone about not wanting to see the same doctor as she refused to answer my questions--I just wanted to know if my eyes were damaged, if this was long term, and what I could do to correct it. They hinted that there would not be any further answers, but I could drive to Vancouver again to likely receive the same foggy answers. They are only open during work hours during the week and I'd already blown too much time going in there, so I canceled my appointment and saw my regular ophthalmologist. My ophthalmologist told me that the blurriness in dim light was caused by my pupils being larger than normal; so that means they are larger than the scars left from the laser. I'm staring through the scars. My eyes are totally healthy and it's just---well, it's just what my eyes are like now. I can no longer drive at night in heavy traffic due to massive halos around all the lights. I also cannot see detail in dim light (think checking the price on something in a dark corner of a store). I just got a pair of glasses last week that help significantly with these scenarios (haven't tried driving yet--fingers crossed!). Honestly, I'm thinking of it as a tax for the convenience of having 20/20 vision in regular light. Had I known this would happen, would I still have had the surgery? Yes. Had they answered me honestly when I asked about it, would I be upset? No. But to this day, I still don't know if they messed up measuring my pupils or if this is just "what happens." I also find it funny that, following all of my complaints, not once have they reached out to me to see how things went, to see if my side effects improved. The last we spoke, they knew I was upset and not seeing very well and they never contacted me in a personal way. (They did add me to their emailing list, though; ugh.) REVIEWS They originally offered an incentive to write reviews but have since stopped this. UPDATE - 11/25/17: I spoke with Dr. King and he was very apologetic about how things went after my treatment. He was transparent & offered multiple ways to possibly address the issue. I appreciated his willingness to chat. I'm keeping this review up, tho, as I think it serves as a reminder to customers do due diligence before making such a life-changing decision & to companies to take care of the people who are spending and risking so much by going through with this procedure.

I was very impressed with the office experience, surgical outcome and the eight week follow up to adjust the lenses for the best vision possible. This was in consideration of my extremely poor eyesight. My only disappointment was that K2 Vision was not helpful in breaking down the various costs that Medicare needs for any possible reimbursement. My bill was a total of $15,000.00. I realize that K2 Vision does not take Medicare as part of their business and they explained that to me. Medicare treats RLE with out cataracts as a non reimbursement procedure. I did have cataracts but K2 Vision did not respond to my repeated requests for more detailed information as to individual surgical procedures and the billing codes that Medicare requires. Be aware of my situation and the costs involved. If you have private insurance that covers what Medicare does not you might have more coverage than I did.

I explained to her that it has been two weeks since the swelling started and it has not gotten better. She looked at my eye and explained I have some clogged oil glands and recommended that I apply warm compresses and prescribed me an antibiotic due to possible infection. We discussed other options such as "topical drops" or draining the oil glands if my eye got worse. Two days later the swelling in my worsen towards evening time, so the next day I called to make an appointment to see a doctor. This time I was seen by Dr. Shauyene Hsieh. She walked into the exam room and asked me to explain what was going on, so I explained to her what was going on with my eye. She looked at both my eyes and said she is going to order me allergy drops, after I had already explained to her that I have been using allergy drops, warm compresses, and been on antibiotics for the last 2 weeks. I asked her if she can order me "topical antibiotic drops" she proceeded to laugh at me and said "topical" and antibiotic drops drops are the same thing. I felt humiliated, not only was this doctor not listening to a word I was saying but she was now laughing at me. I felt as if my medical needs were not being addressed and I was being rushed out. I explained to her that Dr. Heintzelman said that if my eye got worse that we can look at other options such as Topical drops. She snapped back at me and said it was not included in her notes and continued to ignore what I was saying. At this point my husband could see that I was getting frustrated so he asked her about steroid shot to drain the capped oil glands. She was very short with him and asked him if she should repeat the treatment plan which we just went over. It's expensive to see a Specialist. If I could have avoided seeing one I would have, but since I was in pain I had to come in twice in one week. There should never be a reason why a patient who is paying to see a provider be treated in such manner as I was. A patient should not feel afraid to ask questions because they are afraid the Provider might get upset with you or laugh at you for not using the correct medical terminology. Dr. Shauyene Hsieh was unprofessional, rude, and uncompassionate. She was slamming things down as we were leaving the room. No one should be treated the way I was by Dr Hsieh. It was unethical, and absolutely unacceptable. I walked out of the appointment feeling humiliated and without answers.

I've been happier with the results from RFM to this point in time. I have seen my primary care provider at both the Woodland and Ridgefield locations. So far, my care has included bloodwork and blood pressure checks, follow-up care from a hospital ER visit, and urgent care for a repeat shoulder injury due to a trip-and-fall accident. When first getting set up with RFM, it took 3 business days to get a return phone call due to staffing issues. I learned that the clinic is not accepting new Medicare and Medicaid patients (so I will have to change clinics in less than a decade), and that some of their physicians are not taking new patients. I wanted a male provider and currently am assigned to a certified Physician Assistant instead of an MD. (I don't have an issue with this; two recent trips to an ER gave me data points that even hospital emergency rooms have a PA handling most of the patients instead of an MD.) I've found that test results, referrals, and visit notes are available quickly in the Patient Portal. Phone calls with test results seem to take longer to get, and I've opted to use the Patient Portal for now. Billing - as some have pointed out - can be an issue. I retired recently and changed insurance, and due to a problem at the new insurance company, I was not "covered" at my last visit (though within 72 hours, this was addressed by the insurance company). Getting the billing people to bill insurance took 3 attempts over a 3 week period. There is always room for improvement, hence the 4 star rating. I do think the providers are trying to improve.
