I keep giving this place a try and I swear it is always hit and miss. Their food is good but man does their customer service need to be better. Had a sick family at home so online orders of soup and food has been my go to when taking care and feeding my family. On one occasion did an online order for a honey walnut dinner meal. Got there when was told to. No wait but the interaction felt rushed and my order was missing the soup of the day and soda. No big deal it happens. Was already home so no urge go drive back for the items. But on a second occasion, I put in another online order on another day, came in again at the suggested pick up time. The place was busy and there was a line at the counter for pick ups. Totally understandable. But what isn't is the ignoring of customers. There was a total lack of acknowledgement of the people who cut the line and they get attention before the people acutally in line. What also frustrated me was the handling of this next situation. So what happened was that they ran out of the roasted duck I ordered so they replaced it with chicken. When I asked if there is a price difference between the duck and chicken, I was met with a look of confusion. I said because I prepaid for the duck, i would like the difference back if the chicken is cheaper. And the staff member just said the chicken was cheaper and walked away. When she came back, i reiterated that since the chicken is in fact cheaper I would like the difference back because why would i pay more for it. She looked frustrated and eventually gave me the change. I get that restaurants get busy. I understand that when there is a rush there will be a wait. But please at least acknowledge the people in line so they aren't frustrated because they are being ignored. And if you're going to replace an out of stock item with something cheaper give the person's money back. read more

My brother and sister-in-law picked this restaurant, which is close to their home in San Ramon. Ambiance: Casual and comfy. The yellow walls have several framed artwork. Double glass door entrance to a large dining room with four booths straight ahead and against one of the walls. Three dining tables with six chairs at each table and one large table and seating for 10 for family dining . To the left is the door to the kitchen, small waiting area for take out/to go orders and more tables and chairs for diners. The wait staff was attentive and helpful. No long wait for the dishes that came out of the kitchen or the glasses of water brought to us thirsty diners. The dishes were brought out at a timely pace. (I get overwhelmed when restaurant staff brings out four or five dishes at the same time.) As usual, I lost count on the number of dishes that was ordered up by my brother and sister-in-law. Rough guesstimate was a 12-course meal, give or take two. The food at best was about average. I enjoyed the cold appetizer platter with the seaweed salad and ham. The lettuce wrap with seasoned minced chicken and veggies was delicious. The soup was bland, not much flavor. (At least no MSG was detected.) Some of the dishes were just a bit too salty for me (beef with caramelized onion and the braised green beans). Since there was so much food, I almost overlooked the tofu and veggie dish. I got the remaining portion of it. Oh, yum! I passed up on two dishes and dessert - the steamed royal chicken, the honey walnut prawns and the sweet red bean soup. Too much food and somehow hot weather has an impact on my appetite or lack thereof. I could not eat a whole lot of food. Parking is no problem. We go to King Palace for family and friends dinner. They have the 3 dishes deals also. Although I had never try their lunch specials until my teenage daughter kept going there with her good friend whenever there's short days at school. My daughter loves their Mongolian chicken and Hot & Sour soup. One day, I decided to give it a try for their lunch specials. And I do agree with my daughter. Garlic chicken was good too. It is somewhat similar to sweet and sour style but cook with more garlic of course and tossed with the sweet and sour sauce. I like it as it is not too pink or red in color as sweet & sour sauce. The sweetness is also not overly sweet. In terms of ambiance, this is just a regular Chinese eat out restaurant. More of family style environment and kids friendly for its space. However if you are looking for romantic dine in with elegance and vibes, then this is not the place. Service is good. The waitress is always friendly and helpful while serving us. Not once we encountered any rudeness. Business is always about cost reduction these days. One must understand that with one or two helpers to offset the cost of your meal. There must be some balance somewhere. To be honest, one time my husband ordered my lunch but I ran late due to meeting. By time I arrived there, my lunch was already awaiting for me. For the wait, if you spent your time checking on your mobile phones, I personally feel that you won't feel the slowness. These guys do basically everything right. Nothing is super amazing or over the top delicious here, but you're basically guaranteed just a good Chinese meal with whatever you order. This is my favorite Chinese restaurant in San Ramon. Look for their 3-item deal; it's a steal. My family and I love their triple mushrooms with fish, jellyfish chicken, and crispy beef. But what they cook and serve best is their chow mien, and you can get them with any meat, they're never cooked wrong. Their noodles are bouncy, thick and comes juicy. Yes, juicy. Outstanding Chinese food in Gale Ranch, San Ramon! This place doesn't look like much from the outside, but spacious, clean, and modern interior. The feature a tank with main lobster, dungeness crab, and catfish. We ordered a large lobster, salt and pepper style for $18.99 and loved the taste and freshness! The gai-lon, Chinese broccoli was also perfectly cooked and drizzled with oyster sauce. I was surprised with their winter melon soup with spare ribs, it was amazing. Another great item was the emein with leeks and crab meat. I could eat this everyday. :) We got adventurous and order the salty fish with tofu in a clay pot. This is one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in San Ramon. They serve both traditional (Cantonese) and Americanized Chinese food and most of their dishes are really good. My favorite thing on the menu is definitely the hot and sour soup. The sourness is just right and I love how they don't put random things in the soup like frozen peas and carrots. The salt and pepper halibut and homestyle tofu are also really good. Not a big fan of their chow mein (it's a little too oily and soggy), but I do recommend their fried rice. I noticed the customer service is better when you speak Chinese with them (typical Chinese restaurant). The lady at the cashier is usually nice, but I wouldn't expect 5-star service from her. We're fortunate to have a restaurant that serves good food and that is conveniently located close to the grocery, bank, and other service areas. This is a go to place if you're craving for Chinese cuisine. It has a very casual setting. So it's 0erfect for us with younger kids. The food is served fast and so far, we have not been disappointed. This has got to be the strangest dining experience ever. I would go zero stars! There were 5 of us, 3 locals and 2 overseas guest. Prior that 5 of us had light appetizers at the Canyon Lake golf club. We were duly seated and ordered 3 Sam Adams Lager to kick off the evening. Immediately we were yelled, with a "No Sam Adams !". We just ordered the most expensive beverage on your menu (!), and treated like trash. That is the first mind bending universe we walked into. OK, we went along with 3 Heinekens. As a team, we ordered, hot and sour soup, 2 sets of egg rolls, Fried Rice and a Singapore Noodles. Not too bad tasting. My buddy said the soup wasn't warm; it was alright. Check came to $77ish. Our 3 beers were lumped as $17.00 (I mean how do you get $17 for 3 beers). OK, second mind bending universe. We gave 3 cards to divide the total check equally (we've been to bars and restaurants, such a common practice) We were treated rudely, "Why 3? How much you tip?" Another bender, asking for a tip up front; not schooled in mathematics, probably; [Distributive Law - if 3 of us tip 20%; it is still an equal to the full 20% of the entire bill] OK, I spoke up, didn't want to kill the evening, "Just add 20% to the total and divide it up" OK. Back came the lady, after some minutes. "We can't accept 3 cards, only 2" Third mind bending universe. I guess if a new customer walks in right this moment, King Palace management will kick them out for paying with a card. I passed Mr. S's beautiful platinum metal card back. Being polite not to kill the evening. Handed 2 cards to the lady boss. Back came; 2 receipts, nicely divided by 2. BUT on my receipt (and only mine) they wrote down the FULL tip of $15. That's alright, I do well in life and able to appreciate hardworking folks with a small gratuity. I indicated to my colleague to zero out his tip, because she just smacked the full amount on mine So much for King Palace, more like Kill-Joy Rude Place. And the food was kinda "Meh". We just were too polite and looking forward to a jolly good evening than making a fuss. NEVER AGAIN, OLD LADY. You should not be running a business or be interacting with any paying customer. We have been here several times for lunch. Their food is good, typical Chinese restaurant. There are weekdays lunch specials and when you pay, at the end there is a coupon back (like 50c or $1.50 back depending on how much you spend). The coupon can be used on Mon-Thurs dine in only. The ambiance is casual and noise level is good, not too loud not too quiet. The service is great. The dried fried pepper salted pork chops are very good. Tofu and eggplants are very good too. Consistent regular customer since the beginning but things have changed. This has been our go to Chinese food place for years. But unfortunately we have noticed that the quantity and quality have slowly gone down hill. Ordered take out last week, Pot stickers were uneatible, they smelled, the meat and the dough tasted spoiled, it was obvious they tried to get away with providing us some old Pot stickers, we had to throw them out, until this order they have always been good. We orderd four entrees, both the chicken and pork dishes the pieces of meat looked a lot smaller from the past. We ordered two beef dishes, meat did not seem fresh and one dish the amount of beef to onion ratio was terrible, it was Magolian beef. We are disappointed in the downfall of this restaurant, unfortunately they seem to no longer take pride in what they serve but are taking short cuts. We are thinking of trying them one more time but our loyalty may now have to go to another Chinese food place. read more

The food is tasty, but the service is so bad that King Palace doesn't deserve more than one star. There are two cooks but only a single staff member responsible for the tables and the take-out. The result is virtually no table service and almost every table being loaded with dirty dishes. The two cooks are constantly yelling at the other staff member creating an uncomfortable environment. If the restaurant is unwilling to staff properly, then they should shut down table service. read more

The positives - orange chicken zest was good tasty and fresh. Quantity was ok food was made to order. Restaurant was clean and well maintained. The food was hot. The Negatives - the Kung Pao chicken was not well cooked as I had couple of pieces of under cooked chicken. The egg drop soup had so much tofu that it can be called as Tofu soup. Too much MSG. I don't see Chinese fried rice with peas and this place had lot of them in their fried rice. The veg fried rice was bland with no flavor. Maybe the sauce they use in chicken fried rice may have some non-veg item I guess. Price was about $10/ dish. Too much MSG bottom line may not come back again. Will try another Chinese option. Rainy day and the waitress was stuck in traffic. The chef was stuck to manage the ordering, cooking and tables all by himself. There was no way to cook and seat everyone, take orders and answer phones. So, he was forced to close the restaurant when his staff couldn't be there so he could focus on fulfilling the orders he had waiting. It just didn't make sense for him to keep getting backed up with orders if he didn't have time to cook. He tried to seat one group and handle all incoming orders and it just got too backed up. Did I get my order? Yes and it was cooked with the same quality as if nothing had happened. Yes I waited a long time but I understand he did everything he could and he did it with professionalism and kindness even though he was in a stressful situation. DO NOT order online. Haven't gone to King Palace in a few years. I think we stopped going when they reduced their portions. Always thought King Palace was over priced and took way too long to make your take out order so just haven't been there. Just today, I noticed that they had an online ordering system so I thought, "okay, let's give them a another shot". My mistake. When I arrived at 12:07pm to pick up an order scheduled for noon, I was told that they did not start my order because there was a rice specified in a noodle dish. Well website didn't let me add the dish without selecting a rice option. Then they said the price was wrong online so instead of $8.75 for each dish. One was $9.75 and one was $12.50(!). Well I told them it was fine and now it's 12:30 and still no food. In their defense they tried calling me to tell me about the rice issue but I didn't answer since it was from a number I didn't recognize and I didn't have to say it's cool. I'll pay the extra cost. So just a shtty situation that I got myself into with this stupid restaurant. I'll be sticking with China Paradise in Danville from now on. I've never had any issues with them. The portions aren't small and the taste is right on. Not sure what I was thinking giving King Palace another chance. It won't happen again. read more

A solid Cantonese-focused Chinese food establishment with fast service. My kids enjoy a lot of their dishes. The one main issue I have is with their use of plastic take-out containers. Hot, wok-fried foods are put into plastic containers that can cause the chemicals to leach into the food. On August of 2007; The Plaza at Gale Ranch opened up to the community of San Ramon, even though the only store that opened was the Safeway and their gas station. On that day, I found out that there would be a Chinese restaurant that would eventually open in this plaza. After 21 months later, that Chinese restaurant has finally opened! As for their interior decoration; the restaurant is very new with a 21st century design. As for the quality of the food, it's very generic to your common Americanize dine-in Chinese restaurant that's located near a business district. It's nothing special and a very common Chinese restaurant that you can find anywhere in the East Bay. The prices are fair, with their lunch special that runs every day (including weekends) from 10:30am - 3pm that ranges from $5.75 - $6.75. Their portions are slightly smaller than your typical Chinese restaurant. I've been here twice now and both experiences has been the same. Their service was on the slow side; but since they are fairly new, maybe they'll be able to pick up the pace. BTW; there are no chopsticks at the table, so you'll need to request them when your server comes to take your order. read more

Worst place to eat ever ! I will never return, soup tasted like water that has been sat out for days and has this really weird smell to it. My family got take out from King's this evening which was my first experience eating their food. The highlight of the meal was definitely the Peking duck. The duck meat with crispy skin was presented in an aluminum tray separate from the bones, and was absolutely delicious. This was especially true when served in the soft steamed bun with a dollop of oyster sauce. The only thing that seemed to be missing was fresh green onion which I'm use to seeing in other renditions of this dish. My next favorite dish was the fish clay pot mainly because the fish was soft and fresh tasting. The King's salted pork leg also was a standout with its extra crisp skin and the surprisingly tender meat. The only dish that I think could have been better was the pepper beef dish. I know that black pepper plays a major factor to the identity of this dish, but I'd have liked it better with about half the amount of black pepper.
