Kingfisher has been a long-time favorite of mine. And I was not disappointed last night. The seafood Newberg was phenomenal: ultra-generous serving of perfectly cooked shrimp, mussels, scallops, clams, crab, and hoki nestled in the most decadent and delectable saffron-infused cognac sauce with garlic, onions, carrots, potatoes, and asparagus; and topped with puff pastry. I may have never tasted anything more delicious. I took home more than enough for a fabulous lunch. The hub wasn't as thrilled. He's not that much of a seafood guy, enjoying ribs or steak previously, but he decided on the fish and chips for this outing. He's used to cod for battered fish and noted that hoki didn't hold together well, breaking into small pieces, some with breading and some without. The fish and the coating were under seasoned and bland. He wasn't happy with the fries, either. He expected regular fries as our server specified, but received shoestrings, some of which were overly crisp but the ones under the fish were soggy. He did praise the cole slaw. Although neither of us could finish our meal, we did order dessert. We shared the pecan caramel cheesecake and it was ridiculously delicious: smooth, tangy, and not too sweet. Just perfect. We managed to finish it and mentioned to the manager/owner? how good it was. He laughed and said no judging if we licked the plate. The ambiance of the dining room is elegance, almost vintage, and feels special. The restaurant was very busy, which I am thrilled to see, but quite noisy. We were so lucky to grab a parking space in the small front lot, because I have limited mobility. I would love a rail on either side of the small ramp because it is a little steep. read more

So, so! Used to be a lot better. Service is just ok and we understand food prices have gone up but the food and presentation should be better. Still one of the only fish restaurants left in Tucson so you go with the flowno matter how early we book always out of the special. Once in a while it would be nice if the Hawaiian fish were not Mahi mahi, maybe an ono like they used to offer or even a flounder, sole or redfish. Phoenix had all of these. Then we changed the order to scallops and she came back five minute later to tell us they were out of scallops! Not going to be a good dining experience! read more

Wow the food here is stellar. Me and my date sat at the bar. It was very chic and sexy. The server Jim made an amazing margarita ($15). However, compliments end there. He was not helpful with menu suggestions, not friendly or interested in talking to us. It was obvious he was trying to limit the duration he interacted with us. We closed our tab and moved to the seated area. The vibe changed drastically when we sat in dining. It was loud but cozy. The furniture was comfortable and perfect for a date night. I had a great time and our server Bo was fantastic. So attentive. The food runner Abby could have been friendlier but her only job was to drop off the food. The oysters Rockefeller were DIVINE!!!!! Kingfisher absolutely delivered on Christmas Eve and reminded me why it is one of my favorite seafood restaurants in Tucson! To start, I had a cup of the New England Clam Chowder, which was creamy, smooth, and loaded with well prepared clams. I also ordered the Calamari, which was presented a bit unconventionally but was absolutely delicious. It came served over a spicy chili sauce and topped with fried jalapeño rings and Sweety Drop Peppers. It was incredible and is officially my new favorite calamari in town. For my entrée, I ordered the Chilean Sea Bass from the Christmas Eve special menu. The fish was cooked perfectly and incredibly buttery, topped with rich lobster, and served over herb rice and roasted cauliflower. Both sides were flavorful and complemented the seabass beautifully. I also added a side of their Smoked Tomato Soft Polenta, which was savory and a delicious addition to an already amazing meal. For dessert, I tried the 1989 Bakehouse Cranberry Tiramisu from the holiday menu. The tartness of the cranberries paired wonderfully with the tiramisu base and made for a lovely finish that was not overly sweet. Big seafood fan here, but Kingfisher left me disappointed. We went with another seafood-loving couple, and they felt the same way. We started with Oysters Rockefeller (both orders overcooked) and calamari (cooked perfectly, genuinely tasty -- I thought we were in for a good night). Then the mains arrived: both Sea Bass orders were badly overcooked, and while my Shrimp and Scallops were done well, the Orzo Risotto underneath was soupy and undercooked -- not risotto consistency at all. For a seafood-focused restaurant, this felt like amateur-hour execution, not what I'd expect from a professional kitchen. I know they can do better. I enjoyed lunch here ages ago but today was a bit disappointing. Service was pretty good. It is quite normal to wait for your food here and it is usually fenomenal. The fish and chips we ordered were more greasy than usual and coleslaw was not fresh. The bread that was served with the steamed mussels and clams was hard as if it was sitting out for a long period of time. My husband and I haven't been here in about 20 years, and I won a gift card on Instagram, so we immediately came out to try the fish and chips! It was great! Thick, flaky cod, and crispy batter. It came with malt vinegar and tartar sauce. The fries were also perfectly crispy! As a fish and chips fan, I was stoked when this restaurant popped up on my IG feed as a place for try. The ambience of the restaurant is very nice and reminiscent of a modern steakhouse. I was greeted upon entering, sat promptly and had attentive service the entire visit. I ordered a mojito (which was delicious), fish and chips (which was good but not a standout) and gelato for dessert (also delicious) While I don't think I would order the same meal again on a return visit, I would come back and check out more of their menu. read more

Such an incredible place for date night! The vibes, the ambience, the service, and the food were top notch. Our server was very attentive and answered all our questions. We had a booth seat which felt very intimate. My husband and I shared a bottle of non-alcoholic wine (side note: I love that they have a robust alcoholic and non-alcoholic menu). We tried the lab grown salmon crudo which was decent but not our favorite crudo. The texture was definitely different from real fish, but it was unique to try! We hired Kingfisher for a catering event for 400 people for $2000. It was a disaster. They were 45 minutes late and they didn't bring any plates, silverware, or serving utensils. The chafing dishes they brought were not the correct size for all of dishes, the meat chafing dishes were too big and put out the flame of the warmer leading to cold meat trays which several people complained about. The food was not very good. Not a lot of flavor in the meat. The rice looked like white rice with some canned tomato's dumped over the top. When we discussed our concerns with the person picking up afterward they gave a lot of reasons for why things were not what we hoped for and said they were doing us a favor but it did not help. The server friendly and the waitress had a lot of knowledge of the oysters so I ordered two different kinds. I can't remember which ones they were but they were both good. I got the burger, which I forgot to take a picture of it comes with lots of different cheese and lots of toppings. It was very, very rich. The french fries were delicious shoestring crispy fries, and the amount you got was a very generous. My mom ordered this fungi dish which she thought was delicious.. definitely will be back for more seafood soon. read more

First time back with new owners. Arrived early and had a cocktail at the bar for the first time. Surprisingly social, struck up a conversation with one of the "regulars". Fun! Began with an order of the mussels. I've been ordering mussels for 50 years and these were the best I've ever had - they were unbelievably fresh and plump. I had the trout which was absolutely wonderful - good sized fish. My wife had the swordfish which was interestingly prepared (see photo below). It was a bit on the dry side, but that is pretty much inevitable with swordfish. Sorry for the poor color in my photos, but this place is pretty dark and I don't want to disturb anyone with a flash. Our go-to place for seafood in Tucson - it's a bit on the pricey side but we always leave satisfied with our meals. What we've tried: - Fried calamari: lightly breaded and served with peppers, pretty good but wish that the sauce came on the side instead of being served on top of it - Tasting plate: good appetizer if you want to try a bit of everything or even get it as your meal, the winners of the plate are the oysters and the house-smoked fish and the rest of the offerings were okay - Hawaiian fish: my favorite entree! Prepared as a macadamia nut crusted fish with a delicious lemongrass butter sauce; the type of fish rotates based on the day - my favorites have been the mahi mahi and opah - Warm lobster roll: buttery goodness with big chunks of lobster, the shoestring fries are great - Lamb shank: slightly dry but my husband enjoyed it and said he would get it again because it was flavorful and the couscous was delicious - Chocolate cake: rich way to end the meal, good if you're a chocolate fan read more

My family and I dine here 2-3 times a year. As KingFisher advertised on Facebook they would have a St. Patrick's Day menu; we decided to come here to celebrate our 24th anniversary. Our reservation was at 7:30, and I was disappointed when I was told that they were out of one of the specials, the Corned Beef. Since they advertised this for over a week, I would have thought there would have been a surplus for the event. I ordered a different special instead, the flavorful seafood stew. It seems that KingFisher lost a few steps to how great it used to be. For a dinner club, it would be nice if they offered bread and butter as a starter. Their menus used to be a lot more classy in appearance and were replaced with a single laminated sheet that one may expect at chain restaurants such as Hooters. I think that KingFisher could be the premiere restaurant in Tucson. With intention, it has the potential to improve a few levels. read more

I've lived in Tucson a long time and finally tried this place for the first time. I've driven by a ton of times and didn't realize where it was located. There's parking around the back if the front is full. The restaurant is much bigger inside than I expected. Service was good. We did the Sonoran Restaurant Week menu. The shrimp were a tad over done and a small portion and the salad was way over dressed but otherwise everything was amazing. The salmon was so juicy and flavorful with the sauce and sides. I would've liked more options for dessert, like something chocolatey. Our options were mango or blood orange so we ordered one of each. The portion sizes of other dishes I saw coming out seemed generous. Overall, a good place for a fancy dinner. I'd return. read more

We ordered an appetizer, which arrived within 10-15 minutes, but waited over 30 minutes for our entrees after finishing the appetizer, without any check-ins from the server during this long wait. Fish and Chips (1/5 stars) A poorly executed dish with soggy fries and bland slaw. The fish itself was decent, with a light, seasoned batter and a fresh taste. Hawaiian Fish (3/5 stars) This dish had great components: fish, rice, and sautéed spinach, with flavors that were on point and well-balanced textures. However, the fish was overall overcooked and the skin was soggy. Hot-Grilled Shrimps (3/5 stars) The shrimp was moderately overcooked but paired well with the cilantro-lime sauce and cocktail sauce. The dish was overpriced for just six medium-sized shrimp. All in all, with the mediocre food quality, poor wait times, and minimal service, I am unlikely to return. read more

Classic Tucson that is always a good choice for Seafood. The wait staff is always extremely attentive and professional every time. They have a large menu of classics. The clam shower is excellent. This trip my partner got the burger and he said it was one of the best in town. I had the fish and chips and it was amazing. Prices are on the higher end but the food is good so it feels worth it. Came here for a pre-fix banquet post SAVOR. We were a party of 30+ so my MIL had reserved the private room for us. Because of this scenario I tend to skew higher on my rating and leave a little bit for a possible stellar review for a regular non-banquet style meal in the future. For a banquet we had some pretty good entree choice, 4 to be exact. I chose the "rotating Hawaiian fish" which happened to be mahi mahi. For my starter I had the poke, a really refreshing mix of tune, honey, wasabi mango sauce and other stuff served with thinly sliced taro chips. The chips were a nice detail to focus the flavors on the poke concoction. For my salad I had the boring but good for me mesclun salad, your standard with a light but present vinaigrette. I read a lot of complaints about how bland the mahi mahi was but I thought it was delicious. It wasn't drowning in crust or sauce although there was barely a bed of rice. Once of my friends ordered the same thing and received a significantly larger portion of rice then me but a small piece of fish. Perhaps there was some compensating going on. Nonetheless, I was satisfied. For dessert I had a bourbon vanilla gelato which was the perfect end to my meal. Our service was almost 100% perfect - well paced, attentive, personable, professional. I would come here again for a regular meal, lunch or dinner. There's not enough parking so overflow goes into the neighborhood as an FYI. So far so good. read more

They close the dining room at 2 pm normally, and we arrived right before 2 Pm and they let us sit in the dining room. There were a few other tables still occupied. I don't know the server's name, but he was great. Friendly, personable and checked on us appropriately.I had the Fish & chips, fish excellent, fries amazing but the cole slaw lacked a little. It needed more dressing as it was a bit dry. My husband ordered the hamburger. It came with cheese, roasted red peppers, poblano pepper, sautéed onions, lettuce & tomato, all included in the price of $21. A half pound of absolutely delicious meat, cooked to his specification. According to my hubby, the best burger in town. He took over half home to eat at dinner. He had the yummy fries and the lackluster cole slaw as well. Soft drinks were $5 and our entrees were $21. Total w/tax was $56 which was reasonable given the taste and our experience. I was so glad to see that they didn't charge extra for a credit card, as it should be. Probably the most expensive sub-par meal I've ever had. The calamari was tough, though it did not taste off, might have just been old. My sea bass with fig tampanede was completely over powered with feta cheese. I'm sure the sea bass was good if only I could have tasted it. The buckeye chocolates were simply sweetened almond butter with dark chocolate poured over the top. My husband's pork ribs were good and tender but that was the only thing on the table worth having. All that and two beverages (not booze) for just under $150 bucks. The service was fine, attentive and pleasant. The atmosphere is a little old and tired tho, the bar looked lively. I doubt we'll return however, the fish and chips that were served to the table next to us looked good. read more

Thinking 4 1/2 stars, but that's not an option, so I'm rounding up. The Wife sez "They have oysters," so I'm already in the car. KingFisher's on the other side of town, and the promise of oysters make the 20-minute drive seem like an hour. The Wife gets it, and our backsides hardly have settled into KingFisher's cushy seats before she says, "Could we start with a dozen oysters on the half-shell, please?" With that, I'm having a pilsner KingFisher has on draft; The Wife asks for a non-alcoholic brew, and I have to suppress a laugh or risk my share of the oysters. The drinks arrive while she's guessing that I'm going to have either the salmon or the duck before she's even decided that she'll order the sea bass. My pilsner's actually an IPA (which explains the 1/2-star deduction), and she sips delicately at her funny fake beer until the oysters arrive. We're able to take in KingFisher's ambiance. It's a nice place with sea-themed art on the walls. Been there in old(ish) Tucson for quite a while, but it's clean and a lot quieter than I'd expect in such an open room. All of the staff are dressed almost casual-nice, and they're attentive an very pleasant. Things happen quickly, but nothing is rushed. After the oysters, I order another beer; the correct flavor is delivered this time, and it arrives with the entrées. My salmon is done perfectly, and the coconut curry sauce is tasty enough that I regret not ordering some bread with which to sop it up. The Wife had foregone the Chilean sea bass that was on special (because she wasn't wild about the garlicky side), but she was very pleased with menu's grilled fillet sea bass that came with green beans almondine & rice. Portions were very good, and, for a change, she didn't ask to share. We wrapped up with a slice of New York cheese cake with white chocolate, which was almost as good as the oysters, and were out of there for less than a C-note (which is good for us). Food was perfect. Raw oysters and the Rockefeller oysters were divine, and we always get the grilled and chilled shrimp. Highly recommend! Wine was lovely, excellent selection of that and beer. Everyone finished their entrees and they were all cooked to perfection. Service was friendly and efficient from all staff. The booths are very cozy. Only complaint is the dining room gets noisy during peak hours (we often go late to avoid just that!) We all shared the chocolate cake for dessert. SO rich! Came here for happy hour/dinner. Was sat down in bar section so it was kind of loud & a tight fit. I was really excited to get my Lobster roll & guess what! They don't have them anymore! But, it was still on the menu So I settled for fish & chips. Fish was good, however, I wish the guy would've told me they have shoestring fries because I would have gotten those instead! Our waiter was very rushed, and would hardly take a minute and talk to us. I kept trying to ask him stuff and he would walk away. This is one of my biggest pet peeves ever and it just makes more work on them. Also, we ordered clam chowder and bread for the table which we were expecting to get before the meal. Everything came out at the same time. Husband ordered a burger cause he's not in the seafood. He said his burger tasted good however with the coleslaw on the plate, it made his bun soggy. Friend of ours ordered the clams and mussels and he said it was very good as well. Also, we had a coupon from Tucson Foodie that we were trying to use however, I guess they changed the policy on that and now we can only use it during lunch hour. If you love seafood this is the place. The service is great and attentive and pitch perfect. Kind of old school. This is not a hipster place. The drinks are strong and good, the clam chowder is creamy and delicious. I had scallops and seriously buttery and big. The right mouth feel with some surprising tastes. They put beans and bacon in there too on a bed of greens. Husband went with salmon and loved it. His measure of a good place is the affogato. Though not on the menu they whipped up espresso and vanilla ice cream and he enjoyed it. What appealed to me was the lack of loud music. This place is consistently really good. read more

Excellent, attentive service from the front stand to the the wait staff and the bussers. The chilled white gazpacho is really thick & creamy while still being vegan. I had the anchovies / white sardines small plate... Great saltiness and smooth flavors. Hubby thought the minestrone needed salt, and he liked my soup better. He had the octopus entree and said the octopus was properly prepared. Ended the meal with a tasty mango and a strawberry sorbet. Good, comfortable, clean atmosphere. My wife and I were looking for a nice place to have dinner for our 10th anniversary and decided to go to KingFisher for a cheat night. We got dressed up thinking this was a fancy restaurant. When we arrived we were greeted by a friendly hostess and quickly seated. We immediately realized this wasn't quite as fancy as we thought, but it was still nice. Our waitress came and took our drink and appetizer order. She didn't seem like she was having the best day and wasn't the most friendly but was able to answer our questions and still act professional. We tried the ceviche appetizer, it came with three different flavors and was pretty good overall. We both ordered fish dishes, one salmon and one Hawaiian fish, I believe it was sea bass. They were both pretty good, they were not very large portions so I do wish we had gotten a couple more appetizers. The salmon plate came with a little cake thing underneath the fish, that was probably the best thing on either dish. After dinner they brought us a small ice cream for our anniversary which was really nice of them. My wife ordered the chocolate mousse cake and she said it was fantastic.
