We went to Cielos for dinner on Mother's Day and we're honestly surprised that it wasn't all that busy. It's a nice setting with both indoor and patio seating. The AC is up pretty high so we were chilled and wished we had opted for outdoors, which has misters and a fountain, perfect for a warm evening. The entrees were all delicious, though pricey. I ordered the green chili tamales, which were excellent. The service, while friendly, was surprisingly slow, considering the prices and that they did not appear busy. Cielos was a good option for finding a table so close to Mother's Day and the food was excellent. I thought I would just take the plate home and doctor it up but I asked several times and didn't get takeout plate. I admit I'm a snob when it comes to Mexican Cusine. My mother made the best Tamales and meneudo. However, there is Cielos with a deconstructed type tamale that was light and fluffy unlike what you would typically expect from the rolled steamed hand held meat pies. Their guacamole was chunky and savory. I appreciated not having bagged chips that were very light and not overly salted. We also had a hamburgués with delicious steak fries. For desert we're churros that were not ladened with grease and a chocolate torte cake. Our server was helpful and attentive despite being a Saturday afternoon the restaurant was nearly empty. Next time I would love to sit outside and enjoy the water and fire features. I went to Cielos mid week for dinner. It is on the grounds of Lodge In The Desert, which looked very cute,as I arrived at sunset. The staff was attentive, though the food and drink arrival time was relaxed. It was not busy. If you go there, plan on staying a while. I was pleased to find gluten free options on the menu. The pan seared salmon was very tasty, and the portion was generous. There is a patio where live music is performed. I didn't experience any music, as we sat indoors, and perhaps it is performed on specific days. I plan to return and experience more of the menu, and the music :) read more

I would say we had a lovely meal on Saturday night after my aunts check in to the hotel. We did have a reservation , so no wait and they were pretty packed. They have inside , covered patio and indoor bar seating available that I saw. Very beautifully decorated inside, welcoming and cozy. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable. I had the short rib and omg it was so good. Tender and juicy, i practically licked my plate lol. I know my mom and aunt also enjoyed their meals . I had a bite of the pasta yum! This is one of the most underrated restaurants in Tucson. How is this gem not a 5 star spot is beyond me! If you like Hacienda Del Sol, you must come here. The same vibe, quaintness, beauty. It absolutely shows off in a way that rivals HDS. Our plan was to go to a restaurant near by, but when we showed up, they were closed. That was the best thing that could have happened, because it prompted us to remember next door! What a WONDERFUL and Beautiful experience! The staff was friendly, the ambiance was stunning and the food was out of this world, cooked to perfection. There are not enough accolades I can give to the experience tonight. I can not wait to come back and bring friends possibly on Saturdays where they have live music. For the food: the chorizo wontons with a mango passion fruit drizzle was TO DIE FOR! It was truly the most enjoyable, unexpected pairing and I can not get enough! Hubby had the scallops. They were cooked to perfection with just the right amount of crisp to the outside. He substituted the sweet potatoes with the gratin potatoes. Oh my god. Perfect. My salmon was also cooked perfect and came with some sort of squash risotto and greens which superbly complimented the meal. Last we had the lemon bar dessert. Margaritas are so good. I was so excited to try this place for the first time for my birthday and made a reservation for breakfast with a group of friends on on Open Table at 9:45 a.m. on a Sunday. At 7:45 the morning of, I got a call telling me they actually don't take reservations for breakfast, they don't have plated breakfast (there's a menu posted to Open Table) and the buffet ends at 10. When I told them that this was supposed to be a birthday celebration, I didn't even get an "I'm sorry," let alone an offer to help accommodate us at a different time or assist in any other way. She did acknowledge that they were aware that Open Table was incorrect, which speaks volumes about their commitment to customers. read more

Indoor seating is surrounded by super sliding doors, which were opened last night due to perfect weather. We started with the chorizo fundido, followed by the green chile tamale and lodge pasta for entrees. Chorizo fundido had very little chorizo, but the cheese flavor was perfect. It came on a sizzling skillet, which hardened the bottom of the cheese eventually, making it crispy and good! Served with corn tortillas. Green chile tamales were disappointing. There was very little sauce, and more masa than anything inside the tamales itself. It was very bland and tasteless. The lodge pasta was a better choice, although the chicken was a bit dry. Service was very friendly. It wasn't that busy on a Friday night, but the hostess and servers appeared very approachable and easy to talk to. The chorizo fundido was the best thing we tried. Cielo's, you have a lot of potential here. In this economy, it would behoove you not to blow it. And I chose this place for some post-golf noms because I had experienced a little taster of your fare at the SAVOR event earlier this year. This place is a diamond in the rough. The lodging grounds are beautiful, well-manicured, artistic. From the front of the house, the restaurant can boast wonderful ambience for a special occasions. Then the experience after you are sat just falls flat. First of all, it's a mistake for yawl NOT to have brunch on Sundays. The restaurant, save for our party and 2 others, was practically empty. It had started off as a partially cloudy day but then the sun broke out for a gorgeous brunch setting. When I ordered my drink, our server led with a bomb drop by telling us that the bar didn't open until 2pm (jaws on the floor). Then we had to pick our jaws up after she told us that they were still able to serve us "basic drinks" like bloody mary's and mimosas". That communication wasn't great. Cielo's "Savor the Southwest"? Where was that in your bloody mary??? That is a marketing opp somewhere or a chance for your Sunday service staff to connect with their guests. There was nothing spicy, nothing particularly Southwest that characterized my drink. I make exceptional bloody mary's. I expect a restaurant to outdo me. I know he's not the bartender but maybe Chef Edwin can concoct some unique spices specifically for your mary's? I will say that Cielo's has THE BEST tortilla chips, like, ever. Idk how to make tortilla chips but it's like they're toasted and toasted with some visible seasoning. The guacamole can probably get the same type of treatment as the bloody mary's. Make it better than I can make it. Now my entree, the Manchego and Wild Mushroom Pasta - TAKE IT EASY ON THE SALT! This was by far the saltiest dish I'd ever had in my life. My husband ordered a hamburger and he had the same comment, salty burger. But, back to my dish, I ordered it with shrimp and they were over salted as well. Idk what could be added to cut the saltiness but yawl gotta figure out that. I know that something so relatively simple could be righted. I ate half and took the rest home and did in fact eat it later minus the 3 shrimp left. Would I give this place another shot? I would, even if just for beers, chips, and guacamole. I want to start with the employees here are all around amazing. Celebrated a birthday and they made it special and showed lots of care. The restaurant and clean and quiet. However, the problem is the food isn't very good but is incredibly expensive. 40$ for pork chops, 28$ for overcooked trout, 25$ for a chefs board that has a total of 5 meats that came out warm. This is the best kept secret in town. I vote this top 3 restaurants in Tucson, speaking as a professional restaurant person! This beats hacienda del sol's restaurant BY A LANDSLIDE. Cielo's is such a good vibe all around. The atmosphere is beautiful, well-kept, classy without being stuffy, inviting and true to its surroundings. I can usually tell if a place is going to be good/bad by its lighting- and the lighting was warm, not too bright or dark. The food was AMAZING omg. The crab poblano queso dip is the best app I've had in a long time. Well worth going over my calorie deficit. I'm a real burger and french fry snob, my other favorite being Truland/Graze, I think Cielo's burger has made it to top 3 best burgers in Tucson (I've literally had them all- don't correct me). The meat is high quality and fries hand cut at a good thickness. Yummm. The service was refreshingly genuine and attentive. I believe the supervisor was serving me on 11/29, and he was phenomenal! So kind, attentive, and didn't make me feel as if I was bothering him. A real sign of the times haha. Every person working I noticed was doing their job and very professional, and the bartenders are fast! I over heard servers being complimented throughout the night. I was here with a group of five other folks for dinner. We were seated indoors and the server was definitely busy so it took a while to get things, however, he checked in and apologized about the situation, so I appreciated that. Someone at our table ordered the Lodge Guacamole and Chips. The chips were delicious, I like them salty and I was eating them long after the guacamole (which was also good!) was gone. I ordered the Romaine Wedge Salad to start with. It was a little surprising when it came because it wasn't a wedge. It was romaine, so it's not as if the description was wrong on that point. I guess it's just that when I think wedge, I envision the shape that the iceberg wedge salads come in. Also, I had asked for bleu cheese dressing instead of ranch since that's also what I'm used to with these types of salads. However, I guess they didn't have bleu cheese dressing because our server offered to just put more bleu cheese crumbles on the salad. When it arrived it did not seem to have much bleu cheese at all, let alone extra, so I wasn't sure what happened there. Nevertheless, the salad itself was good and I ate it all. For the meal I ordered the Morita Glazed Salmon dish. The salmon was cooked perfectly and was delicious. I loved the spinach as well as the sweet potato gratin. I had really been craving lots of vegetables during this meal so I would have loved the portions of those two items to have been a bit bigger, but it's probably a fairly standard amount for a U.S. restaurant, since here the focus is rarely on the vegetables. I was pretty full after the salad and the chips and guacamole, so I decided to save much of my meal to take home. That way I (barely!) had a bit more room for...dessert! The desserts were presented to us by the server and mine was called Strawberry Shortcake. I will say that I was a bit confused when it arrived and didn't have any strawberries with it. It was definitely cake, and the server said that the thin layer of a fruit spread between the two cake layers was made of strawberries. There were fresh blueberries on the plate as well. The cake mostly tasted like butterscotch. It was a tasty dessert, just not exactly what I expected. The atmosphere here is lovely, and while we didn't eat outside I walked through that area and could see how it's a great outdoor dining option as well. The grilled lamb chops were very plain on their own and didn't have enough seasoning. They relied on the glaze to give it flavor. The southwest Arugula Salad was good although I wasn't a fan of the onions with this salad combination. The Vera Cruz Salmon was delicious. I wasn't a fan of the Agave Basil Gimlet, Cielos Spritz or Catalina Cooler. I figured out later it must be the Blue Clover Local Gin in two of those cocktails I didn't like. Very disappointing breakfast experience. Before we paid, we specifically asked what kind of breakfast was being served, and the waitress told us there would be specialty items like chorizo or steak with tortillas. None of that was available. It ended up being the same plain eggs, bacon, and sausage you'd expect from a basic free continental breakfast! except we paid full adult price for it. The waitress was nice, but when I explained that we felt misled, she didn't really help and just said the restaurant was closing soon so they didn't know if the kitchen could make it. What?? If you tell customers certain food will be available and it's not, at least acknowledge the mistake, apologize, or try to make it right. We left feeling frustrated, overcharged, and honestly in a bad mood. So disappointing because we actually love this hotel. But we definitely won't be coming back for breakfast. Keeping in mind that I didn't even get to try their food; my girlfriends and I had a reservation made for the 5 of us at Cielos on a Sunday morning for breakfast to celebrate my friend's birthday. We made reservations on OpenTable for 9:45am. Received a confirmation email. We were looking forward to trying their "a la carte" breakfast menu. The breakfast menu wasn't listed on their website but was listed on OpenTable, and there was also a photo of the breakfast menu online from another review so we were full steam ahead to try it out. ONE HOUR BEFORE OUR RESERVATION, Cielos called my friend (the birthday girl) to let her know that "we actually don't take reservations for breakfast" and cancelled our reservation. To add insult to injury, they also don't serve a la carte breakfast, and it's only a buffet. My friend mentioned that OpenTable showed an à la carte menu and the woman on the phone from the restaurant KNEW that the OpenTable menu was a complete discrepancy from what they actually serve. I've been here multiples times for dinner and they are always understaffed. Waited so long to be seated with a reservation, food takes forever. there was 2 people running around doing everything. We checked Cielos out on our way to see the Winter Heaven Christmas lights and was pleasantly surprised. Weather was cold and breezy and the fire pit made the ambiance very cozy and welcoming. Food was good but maybe a bit on the pricy side but you are at a "hotel" so to be expected. Wine selection was pretty decent and well priced so we enjoyed that. The grilled octopus was our favorite though we didn't care for the abundance of the sweet chutney. Just left it...the rest of the dish was solid. Sonoran salmon cooked perfect as was the green beans that went with the dish. Risotto was just okay. Had a simple Coffee cake with ice cream for dessert. Just me and the wife on a nice date night. My husband and I had Thanksgiving dinner at Ceilos at the Lodge of the Desert. Unfortunately, it was very disappointing. Firstly, they set up temporary tables and folding chairs in different rooms. Our table was wobbly, and the chairs were not comfortable. We felt like we were sitting at the kids table - not a good start. Secondly, service was sparse to say the least. Finding a server was difficult at best. To top it off we realized on our bill that we had to pay a 20% holiday gratuity. I understand providing gratuities for staff working on a holiday. However, the dinner was buffet style, so we would have expected service to be much better since there was very little "food" service. We were disappointed with the buffet. The mashed potatoes had barely any gravy and what gravy there was - had been burned on the bottom of the potatoes due to the heated serving tray. The turkey was not a "real" turkey in my mind. It was a combined turkey where the white and the dark meat were blended. Neither was very good. There was also no plain butter for the roll selection. All there was on the table was maple butter. I don't particularly care for maple, so my roll was plain. I was surprised plain butter was not provided. The best thing at the buffet was the carrots. They were fabulous. There were various other offerings but nothing that we felt was worth the $90 we paid per person. Again, very disappointing. I have an upcoming reservation for my dining group in December. I will be canceling it since I was so disappointed with just about everything at Ceilos. However, I'm not even sure the reservation is on their books. I called, made the reservation and was told that since the reservation was so large, one of the managers would need to reach out to me; that was 3 weeks ago and no word from anyone. Came here with a friend this past week and was excited to try the dinner, as I'd had the brunch in the past and enjoyed it. The restaurant is set off from a hotel/resort so the exterior has an elevated decor with a high wall that shields you from seeing the street (alvernon) and creates a better sense of bliss or oasis. The ambiance was cute, as it had lights strung up on the patio and a fireplace center piece . We sat inside however, which still was nice decor. The menu was small and my friend noted that it was different than what she had looked at online. I ordered the kalibi short rib appetizer. The fries that came with it were great but the sauce used in the ribs was interesting. My friend did not like it and it reminded me of the McDonald's McRib sandwich. It tasted like that. My friend order the meatloaf with wagyu beef and pork chorizo. It was surprisingly good (I don't usually enjoy meatloaf). I got the the stuffed rainbow trout, trying something new and at the server's suggestions. That was a bad idea. It reminded me why I had been avoiding ordering fish at restaurants (though my theory had been proving me wrong up til now). It was just so bland tasting and lacking flavor. I looked to the lemon cream sauce and succotash to help drive the flavor and save the dish but they were both so tame and blah too. I was really disappointed. I don't usually send back things even when I dislike it, but this one I sent back and got the meatloaf as well. I just couldn't eat it and knew I leftovers would not get eaten either. We were pleasantly surprised that they were open on New Year's Eve! The kitchen closed at 8 PM and we drove into town about 10 minutes prior and our server told us not to worry that they will take care of us. It was so busy on New Year's Eve that they actually ran out of ingredients but we had amazing cocktails and wine despite that we appreciate all of the staff working so late to take care of everybody on New Year's Eve and the food was outstanding. The service was excellent, and the ambience was very romantic with multiple fireplaces in place and a guitarist playing live music. It was a perfect relaxing New Year's Eve and we would definitely come back here again. Stopped by here for dinner with a party of 9. Staff was friendly and very attentive ( they charge a mandatory gratuity of 20% for large parties) I had the southwest salad with grilled chicken. One of the best tasting salads. So much flavor. read more
