Owner Kelly is friendly and personal, available on the property. Staff is helpful and friendly too. We love the location near our son who lives on the hill above Cottage Inn. Every time we pick a different room to experience with interesting decor, however our least favorite have the animal heads looking at you in bed! (: The setting and location are from a by gone (nostalgia) era which we love plus modern upgrades. The breakfasts are delicious, delivered to our room but we also enjoyed when there was a "communal buffet" in the main building where folks gathered to chat. We love the staff's efforts to be more "sustainable " but we were a bit disappointed that the breakfast was delivered with plastic and so much disposable wrappings. Reusable containers would be best. The Beach and surrounding are beautiful and well kept. Love the trees!

Self check in with code at the doors to rooms make it easy. 10/10 recommend. Not a lot of snow right now but we will definitely be back with the family again next time we have a lot of snow. There is a private beach for lake activities and only 15min from Northstar ski resort. Safeway grocery store is less than 1/4mile away and lots of restaurants close by. Unfortunately there is only one parking space per unit and any additional cars must be parked off the property. There is trash and towel service twice a week. Laundry facilities are free but there are only 2 washers and 2 dryers for the entire property. Detergent is $2 and can be purchased at the front desk. Because of a snow storm we could not make it on the first day and arrived late on the second day. The staff at the front desk (Erin, Kelly, Kailee) were all accommodating with the late check-in process and texted instructions on how to retrieve our card keys since the office close at 6pm.

Full kitchen is stocked & great for preparing meals. The not so great: Temperature in the room runs warm, no matter what you do. We left most windows open 24/7 & were still warm - even with snow outside. To complicate that - leaf blowers...run all day long. Do they carry around extra batteries? No joke - from 8am to after 5pm, it doesn't stop. When you have to leave windows open to not boil in the room - the noise from the leaf blowers = nousicance. The pillows are crazy full. Make your neck hurt firm. I ended up filling my own pillowcase with a small blanket I brought. If you trade through II, for a sleeps 2 privately/with a kitchen - that's exactly what you get. A room with a kitchen in it. It's pretty intimate to co-habitate for a week together. We did ok but it would be awkward if your not super close/familiar with each other. $25 a day "resort fee", no matter what the season & no matter what type of room you have. No kayakes, no pool - doesn't matter = $25 a day. We won't be back, unfortunately. Might be better in a larger unit during a different time of year.

The mansion is located walking distance from town. It has been very well restored and has many period pieces and decor. My wife and I have stayed in many places like this but I have to say...this place has something special. That is mostly due to Connie the owner. As soon as you book the reservation you get a huge email laying out what to expect at the mansion including directions and what to expect. The email then goes in and tells about the town and its MANY attractions and history and how to contact those business. Once we arrived, a note in the door said to "call Connie once you arrive and are ready to check in...LOL'! We thought this was great and gave it a very "homey" atmosphere. Connie also owns a bar/saloon in town called The Silver Queen, which has been featured on Ghost Adventures and is worth a trip there in its own merit and that is where she was when we arrived. She basically said...walk in the side door, go straight ahead and turn right and the door to your room is right there with the key in it. Let me know if you need anything else...LOL. We thought that was just the best! The rooms were very clean and comfortable and had AC, TV, Keurig coffee maker, private bath, and ours had a patio outside. We took a self guided tour around the house, as no one was there, and fell in love with the place. The big thing that sets it apart from any other place that we have been is the fact that the owner, Connie, is the one who literally cook you a three course gourmet breakfast every morning! Her meals were spectacular and the hospitality and conversation was amazing. She has lived they for 61 years and could answer pretty much and question you had and had a hilarious and interesting story to tell about whatever you wanted to know I was well! We met some great couples at breakfast and we are SURE to be back in the future. This mansion and the city, which exceeded all expectations as well, will definitely in regular rotation on our many adventures every year. You will NOT be disappointed when you stay here!

Room 101 was a studio room with a kitchenette (sink, cupboards, coffee maker, microwave; small fridge, small folding table with two folding chairs); sitting area with a chair and TV; comfy King size bed; bathroom (individual lotion, shampoo, conditioner, and soap provided; good water pressure in shower); gas fireplace. Convenient location close to restaurants and stores and activities; bed and pillows were comfortable; fireplace was nice and worked well to heat the room on a chilly night; everything (shower, sinks, lights, etc.) worked fine. Room 101 is closest to the street. The street is a bit noisy so bring ear plugs if you're sensitive to that. The fireplace fan provided some white noise which helped. As far as ambiance, if you're looking for fancy, this isn't the place. But that didn't matter to us. It's an older place and the decor is outdated -- very old school motel-type room. We rolled in around dinnertime, unloaded the car (parking is convenient and right outside the door) and went to dinner at the Thai place a few blocks away (fantastic). Got back to the room and turned on the fireplace to warm things up, put our PJ's on, and sat on the bed to play a fun card game that we brought (Five Crowns). In the morning there was coffee (meh, not great), hot chocolate, and tea they provided in the kitchenette to help get the day started. I stayed in a smaller room this time which was the Mountain Hideaway located all the way in the back corner. Since this unit doesn't have a full kitchenette the breakfast and free snacks at the office was included in my stay. But this room did have all you needed from a sink, to a fridge, and a electrified stove which I used to make breakfast one morning. The fridge gets really cold so just watch out your stuff on the top rack may freeze a bit. The room came with a nice tub which I used every night to relax my body. The heater they have in this room works really well and kept me and my doggies warm throughout the day and night. They come and clean your room everyday so this is a major reason why they request for your dogs to be well behaved. I'm coming back here again I hope in the summer. Its located 1 mile from Homewood resort so if you ski or snowboard it's really convenient, especially if your kids are fur babies. I was an also a little disappointed that there wasn't an open lobby for checking in; everything for our stay was handled by phone. It was also a little weird to have to walk downstairs from the parking lot to our room, but it was fine. That said, our room was poolside and we also had a view of Lake Tahoe out our sliding glass door. All in all, for the great price we got I really can't complain. It's a great option--and walking distance to Pep's for breakfast is a big plus.
