This place is super cool! I'd been seeing posts about it on social media and knew I needed to check it out! I browsed the shelves and grabbed some chimichurri seasoning as well as some duck fat cooking spray. They have a TON of seasonings, rubs, and sauces. I was also looking at the meat counter and wasn't sure what to get! I got the chance to meet Willie and he said I picked some great items. He also recommended I try the picanha. He took the time to tell me about the cut, how to cook it, season it and serve it. I really appreciated his time and service! I've already used the duck fat cooking spray and chimichurri seasoning on some chicken and veggies and it's amazing! Can't wait to cook the picanha and post pics of that! If this seasoning is anywhere near as good as the meat, well... let's just say Eduardo and I might be on a first-name basis soon. Now, let's talk about that meat. This review is based on two visits and trying various items. On my first visit, I purchased prime ranchera, salsa, and their marinated chicken thighs. While the meat had good flavor, it was surprisingly tough for being labeled as prime. The marinated chicken was disappointing--it lacked flavor entirely and tasted unseasoned. I had to add my own seasoning to make it palatable, which made me feel like I could have just bought plain chicken thighs and saved some money. The salsa, on the other hand, had good flavor, but be prepared to pay a premium--I believe it was around $8. For my second visit, I tried their Monterey cheese and jalapeño burger patties. They were decent, but I suspect they used high-fat beef since they shrank significantly during cooking, ending up more like slider-sized patties. Overall, I was really excited to try this place after following them on Instagram, where their food always looks amazing. However, given the premium prices and inconsistent quality, I'm not sure I'd return. Taking another chance on an expensive disappointment just doesn't seem worth it. read more

We have now been to KMBS every weekend since they opened to purchase the most delicious prime meats. First, there is the store itself. CLEAN and up to date. You want rubs? They've got them all. No comparison. KMBS wins hands down. Next up is the quality of their meat. Mostly prime beef, chicken and a few cuts I had never heard of. I know about them now! Again KMBS the clear winner. And then, best of all, the GUYS! All three of the owners are extremely knowledgeable about meat and are happy to help with any questions. Really cool spot with a lot of cool seasonings you don't see at your regular grocery store. The spicy chimi churri seasoning is amazing on any meat! Their prepared prime ranchera and tasajo is also delicious. I love that they weigh the meat then add more marinade after they weigh it so they aren't just selling you juice. Place smells clean too. I stopped by yesterday and told the guy I was here for the grand opening and wanted to get the same meat for tacos that they served. I ended up getting 3/4 pound of the Beef Taco Prime and 3/4 pound of the Ranchera Prime and I cooked both of them in my cast iron skillets and they both turned out great. My wife liked both but preferred the Taco prime and I liked both also and liked the Ranchera prime because I could cook it to medium and both had great tastes. Eduardo helped me out and even said they tortillas if I needed them. I did spend a few minutes looking at all the great looking beef and pork they had there. The chicken looked fine, but I really like beef and pork for BBQ. This is my 3rd visit and will be back again. I have been buying meat here for a few months. At the beginning it was awesome but recently the quality of the prime has dropped in my humble opinion. The tasajo meat has a lot more membrane tissue and fat. Also, I'm not sure if he's the owner or not but for the past few times that I have bought tasajo there, this guy has help me with the tasajo. He's a heavy set guy. I've asked him to give certain tasajo steaks while buying them and he didn't like the fact that I wanted only certain ones. He said " all my meat is the same all the time a d its prime". As a customer I have the right to pick and choose my meat I think. I went for a second time and he gave me the same attitude but in a lesser level. I did not like that, I'm giving him my business and this last time he even talked bad about another business which sales prime meats. I will stop going here. There are other places like this one with better meat and bigger selection. read more

Went by to check out the place and wasn't impressed. I got it the owners have been on tv in cooking competitions. Not my reason for coming to the establishment. I wanted quality meats at a decent price without the additional expense of so called fame. There were Multiple red flags starting with meat being prepackaged. When I go into a butcher shop, I expect to be able to inspect and see what I'm buying completely; next the owner had a hard time dealing with my questions about different cuts of beef and ask how I know about them, since very few people in LA offer them.... I'm not originally from LA! Then worst of all decided on some Tri-tip that was prepackaged and got the ultimate disappointment, it had a 3 quarter pound fat cap on its back side that I had to trim off before smoking. A quality butcher doesn't leave that on Tri-tip and speaks volumes for the butcher and his establishment. I won't be going back. read more

Customer service is lacking. I was shopping for some filet migon and asked to have three 2" steaks cut for me. I was handed a cellophane wrapped package containing three end cuts and the end fat cap. It clearly was left over from another order. I was told that's all they have. The reason I came to this meat market was to get quality meat for Mother's Day. I found was I was looking for at the Corner Butcher Shop in La Verne.
