This place is nice. The ambience is sketchy. The service is ok, and the food tastes like nothing.

During our first visit on a Monday afternoon, the store was fairly busy. When we reached the checkout, the cashier offered no greeting, no communication, and rushed our order through the register. What surprised us most was that there was no assistance with bagging our groceries. Having worked in the supermarket industry myself, I found the lack of customer service and basic courtesy disappointing. We left the store confused about whether customers are expected to bag all of their own groceries, as no one explained the process. Because of that first experience, we assumed this was store policy and were prepared to bag everything ourselves during our second visit. This time, the cashier was somewhat friendlier and at least greeted us, but the checkout process felt very rushed. We had 43 items and were actively bagging our groceries while my wife completed payment. Before we had finished organizing and bagging our purchase, another customer was directed to the checkout lane behind us and began moving our items aside to make room. The customer appeared frustrated, and the situation made us feel rushed and uncomfortable. Once again, there was no assistance from the cashier and no explanation of how customers are expected to manage bagging while the next order is already being processed. What made the experience even more frustrating was observing several employees elsewhere in the store appearing to have free time while customers at the front end were struggling to keep up with the checkout process. If the store's policy is for customers to bag their own groceries, that should be clearly communicated. If it is not the policy, then additional assistance at checkout would greatly improve the customer experience. We understand that retail is challenging and that stores must operate efficiently. However, customer service, communication, and courtesy still matter. Based on our first two visits, the checkout experience felt impersonal, rushed, and unnecessarily stressful. We hope management will review the front-end operation and consider ways to make the checkout process more welcoming and customer-friendly for both new and returning customers.

My family has lived in Hicksville for over 40 years and we have been frequenting that shopping center for that long. We used to shop that supermarket when it was Trunz. That being said my mom went in there last week on either Thursday or Friday with my niece and nephew to get them some snacks and herself dinner for the evening. She went to the deli counter and a young man rang a bell to get the attention of the deli clerk that they had a customer. Out walked a young Hispanic male with dark curly hair and he said, "Can I help you sir?" He was polite at least and my mom got hurt, but she was just gonna move on l. Yes she has short hair, but she was dressed as a typical senior citizen female. She replied with a curt, "I am a woman." To which the young man proceeds to laugh in her face and kept laughing. She was devastated. She walked away, purchased some milk, left the store with my niece and nephew and proceeded to cry in her car. She calmed down, collected herself, and went home. She told my sisters and one of them called and complained to the manager on duty. He was all apologies and said he would look into it. Whether he does or not, I really don't care because my family is no longer going to be going to Key Food again. Maybe that's harsh or an overreaction, but all we can do is withhold our business and hope that they are more aware of the caliber of people they hire in the future.

This store is definitely smaller than its competitors but if you're only coming here for a couple of items, it'll do its job. The aisles are narrow but the store is never that crowded. The worst part is the parking lot. It takes longer to find a spot than to shop more often than not. The staff is friendly. Sale items tend to be pushed towards the front or on end caps. Prices for certain items (Entenmann's, Stella Doro, meat, cereal) are lower than other stores in the area. Meanwhile other everyday items are more expensive here than elsewhere. Store is clean. It has a little of everything (including a paleo/gluten-free section in the baking aisle). Not a bad place to go if you need something quick.

Horrible, humiliating experience. It might as well have been called the "Vending Machine Syndrome"…read more Post-shopping, I used the first machine at the self-checkout. I gave the machine 20$--and man, was that the worst thing I could have ever done. Not only did it NOT register the money I gave it, the whole machine froze for a good while. I called out to the staff person managing the checkout center, to which I was told "someone will assist you soon." I spent almost twenty minutes waiting at the checkout for someone to "assist" me, the line's growing longer behind me, and I'm getting anxious from staff members looking at my situation, talk to the previous staff members, then disappear somewhere. Finally, a person who I assume to be the technician opened the check-out station, retrieved the money stuck far in the machine, gave me a receipt, and...that was it. No apologies, not even a "Thank you, please come again" from anyone, not from him, the store manager who popped by, nor the managing staff. After the aggravating Vending Machine Syndrome experience, a quick word would have made all the difference. Terrible store, terrible staff, and terrible customer service.

It definitely takes shopping to new heights. But shopping down the aisle required some guidance, however, the staff was friendly or really helpful at all. I went to the Indianan food counter and got the attention of a employee to help. I took the chicken taki taki, because I've tried it before.
