My wife and I have been going to King's Tailor for a longtime, but my recent experience was disappointing. I had taken my running jacket in since my zipper had come off and I was told that the zipper could be fixed. I left the jacket and when I came back the top part of the zipper track where a plastic cap was located was ripped off and the zipper track was messed up and she told me that the jacket could not be fixed (per pictures). The zipper track was fine when I took the jacket in and only the zipper had come off. She literally destroyed my relatively new jacket and did not fix my problem and did not even tell me she altered the jacket in attempt to fix it. I wish she would have been upfront about not being able to fix my jacket versus further wrecking it and leaving it unrepairable. I will not be coming back read more

I've had great experiences in the past with taking in a few jeans to get brought in at the waist and having the arms of a silk shirt shortened. Very happy with those complicated alterations, so I didn't think anything of it when I brought in a bridesmaid dress to get hemmed. It's a straight hem on a stretch velvet dress. It's so simple that the only thing keeping me from hemming it myself is that I'm in the middle of moving and don't have my sewing machine. It's so bad. This straight, column skirt has a very noticeable uneven hemline. The length across the slit differs by over 1.5 inches. Unfortunately, I was busy and didn't try it on at the store before leaving and didn't catch it. Now I'm going to my sister's wedding with an unexpected hi-low skirt And for this experience, I had the pleasure of paying $68. I did a double take when she quoted me and when I pushed back she held firm, "due to the stretch velvet." It was already pinned and I didn't have time to get a second quote. I feel cheated. And the way she sent me off with a smile and this shoddy handiwork... I won't be returning. read more

Omg the language barrier is REAL!!! I took an 80's prom dress that I got for $10 at a thrift shop. It didn't fit in the bust area but perfect everywhere else. I told her that and she must not understand. She made the hip, waist, and bust bigger! She had to bring in the bust some more on the day of. I had to come back. This was a pain in the rear experience. Alteration was $50!!! That's ridiculous! More than what I paid for the dress. Are you supposed to haggle with alteration people? Ive gotten four things fixed here. A shirt taken in on the sides, a pair of pants, some jeans (original hem, looks great) and some pants that I think were defective, and she totally figured out what was wrong and fixed them. English is not the number one language, and its fun trying to figure out what she is trying to say - but either way, she does a great job and I'll totally go back when my clothes dont fit! read more

I went to King's Tailor with nine shirts to be slimmed down at the sides. The seamstress who pinned me up was courteous and friendly, and the store's ambiance was much enhanced by soft classical music (bravo, maestro). I did a double-take at the price when billed -- $18 per shirt --, but the shirts were already pinned up by that point. I went ahead with the order, somewhat disgruntled. On the designated pick-up day two weeks later, I went back to the shop at 4:30 p.m.. Only four of the shirts were done, and I could see someone in the back working on a fifth. The seamstress from before apologized and told me to come back at 6:30 p.m. This miffed me a little (is their schedule so solid they cannot complete orders sooner than day-of?), but it was not a major inconvenience. I came back two hours later and collected the shirts. I do not have much experience with tailors, but the handiwork on the shirts seems exemplary. From my limited knowledge of tailoring, to slim a shirt most tailors will "dart" the garment by adding two seams at the back. The seamstress at King's Tailor used the existing side seams to slim the shirt, no darts needed. Again, working from limited knowledge, I believe this is a more skilled and labor-intensive way of slimming the shirt. The construction looks solid, although not enough time has passed to tell for certain. I suspect that the shirts were lightly-pressed somewhere along the way because, suspiciously, they came back with fewer wrinkles than they had at the beginning. If you add up these positive touches, the (considerable!) extra expense may be justified. Bottom Line: King's Tailor was a bit pricier than I had bargained for, but the results are superb. Judging from an earlier negative review and my minor inconvenience, the staff may have trouble managing their workload. Perhaps that is a positive thing, as it implies happy repeat customers, and lots of them. I was treated well, and would return if I wanted high-quality tailoring for an expensive garment. read more

I wanted to get a pair of black leather pants altered to fit a little tighter near the ankle. I came in on a Monday around 5:30pm. She seemed to have trouble pinning them, which made me slightly nervous. Once I was all pinned, I changed back into my normal clothes and went to talk price. She requested $60 which was a little high in my opinion but I knew it would be complicated since the pants are faux leather on the front and twill on the back. Since it was going to be more than I expected, I requested that she have them done by Thursday at 6pm and she agreed. When I went to pick the pants up it was 5:30pm on Thrusday so I was a little ahead of our agreed time. She asked if I could come back at 6:30. When I peeked back in her workroom I saw that she hadn't even started on the pants! I didn't want her to rush the job so I asked for my money back. I'm sure she would have done a great job since she has so many other good reviews, just disappointed that she agreed to a timeline she couldn't achieve. I usually test a tailor out by taking in jeans to hem with an original hem. Sounds simple enough, but I've learned the hard way that it isn't as basic as you'd think it is.... I took in 2 pairs of jeans - skinny jeans so if hemmed too short, I'd constantly be walking through an invisible flood and if they were too long, they'd have this weird clump of material at the bottom making it look awkward with heels. At least to me :). Huge sigh of relief when I put them on, and they were the perfect length with hems that looked pristine and in their original condition. A word of advice for those who have never had pants hemmed, you should bring in the shoes you'll typically be wearing with those pants (flats vs. heels, dress shoes vs. tennis shoes) or the length will be off. The seamstress is Korean but speaks English well enough that I have confidence she'll understand what I want. Took them in on a Sat and got them back on Wedn. Oh, and I also tend to judge a place by how busy they seem (not always a great indicator but I gotta have something!), and there were lots of different garments hanging, ready to be picked up - cheerleader's uniform, gowns, shirts, slacks, blazers, etc. Good enough for me! I dropped my dress off on 11/19 to have it hemmed got there at 5 on 11/24 and it was not ready. The lady assured me it would be ready. After telling her to give me a refund and my dress she ask me to wait 15 minutes and it would be done. I am so disappointed with the service and the rush job. It would of been nice to get a call saying hey your dress is not ready. I will not return here they are slow and overpriced. read more
